Rumors: Pouncey Battling More Than A Bad Hip
Rumor has it that another issue cropped up for Pouncey this offseason
Mike Pouncey has been blessed with all world talent, but unfortunately, it would seem that his all-world talent is encased in glass.
This offseason had Pouncey rehabbing from a hip injury that knocked him out of the 2016 season. It was an issue that dates back a few years now. But even though both hips seem to be on their last leg, there was real hope in a recovery, because he was finally going to get an extended period of rest and recuperation. Also, this hope was bolstered by a stem cell procedure using state of the art technology that seems to have worked wonders on Ryan Tannehill.
BUT, Barry Jackson, in a Miami Herald article, is reporting that sources have relayed to him that Pouncey picked up one more issue as he was dealing with his hip.
It seems that he contracted a staph infection in his inner thigh and was battling to recover from the infection as well as from his hip injury.
Pouncey must heal, but he also needs strength… can he get both with camp around the corner
First, Staph Infections are serious. So we just hope that Pouncey gets well and the infection is under control.
For those who aren’t aware, infections are overcoming antibiotics worldwide and many leading scientists are saying we have entered the post-antibiotic era. So, the concern goes well beyond playing football.
But, from simply a football perspective, this adds a load of complications and doubt that Pouncey will have a miracle recovery in 2017. It doesn’t take a pay per head services like Ace Pay Per Head, to figure out his odds of playing 16 games has gone down. It’s not to say he won’t make 16 games, or that the sources are accurate, but this isn’t the kind of omen you want to hear only weeks away from camp.
Given that Pouncey has arthritis in his hip, injury, and also likely has atrophied, when you add in overcoming a Staph Infection, I’m downgrading my expectations considerably.
Jackson also is reporting that Pouncey is expected to be ready to go by the start of the season–covering all bases I guess. We’ll get a good indication of whether this is pie in the sky or an actual expectation soon enough. As for me, I won’t stop rooting for him to make a full recovery, but Ted Larsen or Kraig Urbik is who I’m now envisioning as the starter–to be on the safe side. Go Fins!!!

I think Coach Gase did a NEesq thing by trading Brandon Albert last year and should do the same for Pouncey. Or at least pick up another center. If we have two 100% players playing 50% each that would be OK too. I don’t think any team that prevails does it with a weak OL.
