Cutler Back In The Saddle For Pats Game?

Gase appears ready to ride or die with Cutler
Gase is ready to ride or die with Cutler

Cutler practiced on a limited basis and ‘appears’ to be the starter

Jay Cutler has unsinkable trust with Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase. Despite a terrible outing last week and a concussion, Gase seems to have Cutler penciled in as starter against the Pats.

According to Omar Kelly, “Dolphins QB Jay Cutler practiced today on a limited basis. That means he’ll likely play on Sunday if he doesn’t suffer a setback.”

First, if I’m Matt Moore, and this isn’t gamesmanship being played against the Pats, I’m done in South Florida when my contract is up.

Right or wrong, Gase has demonstrated zero trusts in Moore. Beginning with zero competition against Cutler in Preseason, to outplaying Cutler this week and still getting the back seat, Moore has never been or will be in the equation for a starter. If Moore can’t win the starting spot against a concussed QB with limited practice, who he outplayed, then Moore is nothing more than an injury fill-in… if even that, in Gase’s eyes. With some good years left in him, why not find a place where he’ll have a chance to start.

Many will point to the Ravens debacle and say this is why. But Moore never had a chance with the terrible play of every offensive player and ton of penalties. Perpetual 3rd and longs against the Ravens D is a recipe for disaster against even the best QB’s. BTW: Cutler would have been devoured as well.

I’m not saying Moore is or isn’t an answer. But you have to ask yourself, if Gase had this little trust in Moore, then why even sign him to his substantial contract?

Cutler was given the starting spot from the first phone call by Gase

Gase cemented his zeal for Cutler by stating that even if Cutler didn’t even practice this week, ‘he’d still make him the starter in-game day if he was healthy.’

Wow.

Now that’s a bold statement. If Jaybird plays well, then kudos to Gase.

But, let’s say #6 comes out, bombs, get knocked out again, and Moore comes in and moves the offense? It’s happened 2 out of 10 games… that’s a 20% chance. So this scenario isn’t a long shot according to any pay per head reviews. And if this scenario does play out, then Gase will not only look like a jackass–again, but he’ll officially be one.

Stubborn can be an asset, but if uncontrolled, foolishness follows.

We heard from Clyde that Moore plays fast– a little too fast and left some play on the field in the Red Zone. Yet those picks by Cutler were given very little comment by the staff.

To quote Orwell, “All animals are equal, but some are more equal.”

I’m going to put my trust in Gase–again–before I go hypercritical. Maybe this is all just a way to cloud who’s starting, so the Pats have a little extra to prepare for? This is a real possibility. Maybe Gase nails this decision and Cutler finally clicks. At this point, we Fins Fans are bound to Gase just like Cutler. It’s a do or die. Go Fins!!!

…sigh …lets run with it 😉 …it’s what we do, eh

…we know, for sure, who chose Cutler over Moore

…we don’t know, for sure, who chose to not only keep Bushrod, but give him a ridiculous guaranteed FA contract over 4x vet minimum despite a piss poor 2016 performance …was it Gase? …or T-bum?

…we don’t know, for sure, who chose to sign Larsen on the cheap rather than go after a higher priced Guard of known quality, one who their previous team, unlike Larsen’s, tried to keep

…we don’t know, for sure, who chose to not go after a strong Center candidate as a development BU behind Pouncey after 3 years of injuries and decreasing performance

…yeah, I’ve faulted Gase based upon his 2016 debacle with the turnstile twins …but the fact is, we don’t know …we’re told that Gase has “equal” say with T-bum on player selection …but is that reality, or just PR? …and we know that Gase has regularly defended whomever he was forced to play …but most HCs do just that …they have to

…so I’m not buying the equivalency, much as you’d like to sell it 🙂

As far a the G’s go, fro what I’m ad have read, Tanennbaum screwed up / was caught off guard by the dramatic rise of G prices. I sort of buy it. I think it was Salaguro that said Larsen was an after thought and rush patch when they realized they were caught between weak talent and a the high price of a fix with no cap space. But this also goes back to why sign Moore to 3 mill if you don’t believe he can’t run the ship? Why not take the 10 mill on Cutler–and 6 for Thomas for that matter, and put it into a G and get a cheaper QB backup and let Moore go? Now that hindsight is 20/20 wouldn’t we have done better than 4 wins or at least equal that and have the G spot fixed? Again, I was all for Cutler due to Moore’s tendency to make some bad throws– I just wanted a fair competition. But as of now Cutler has not only had bad throws but had a bunch of bad games with only one good one to balance it. So like you said we don’t know the who or why, but Gase is the poster boy for all good and bad in Miami at this point. I hope whatever he does that he shoves all our ‘misgivings’ right down our throat. I’d love to be proven wrong time and time again, till I say ‘Yes, SIR!”

Well, Cutler is ruled out now… guess Moore gets an attempt to shine.

…its the Pats in Boston …their defense has been hot lately …and Brady is having yet another MVP year …I wish Moore all the best because he is going to need it …but he has always been a streak QB, he can get hot for a couple games, then fall flat on his face again …he could get hot against the Pats …I’d be pleased to lend him my charcoal lighter …really, I’m good that way 🙂

I’m under no delusion that Fins win, but I do think he can do better than Cutler. The difference I saw that made Cutler better when he was signed was he had a better deep ball, could have less big screw ups than Moore, and be more mobile in the pocket. But Cutler has screwed up on the level of Moore, been nervous in the pocket, and had zero deep ball and poor accuracy overall. So to me, Moore is hungry, a more likable guy with deeper connections to the players, standing stronger in the pocket, and has more zip… so, given Cutler seems to be a level or two below the Cutler we know, why not Moore? I do think Gase has his judgement clouded by pressure and preconception. But he has had a insane amount if issues to contend with and the pressure must be mind boggling.

    …sigh

…Gase had a full year coaching Cutler in Chicago …direct day by day, close, personal, observation in both practice and game situations

…Gase had a full year coaching Moore in Miami …direct, day by day, close, personal, observation in both practice and game situations …including three games as a starter

…when TH went down, Gase didn’t hesitate …with his career on the line, and equal time in observing and coaching both Cutler and Moore in intimate, up close and personal situations, he went for Cutler

…the same call has been made by every other NFL HC who has had him on their roster …he wasn’t even drafted …Dallas took him as an UDFA after the 2007 draft, and then cut him …Carolina picked him up but he lost out to Delhomme and Carr …even after both were injured, they went out and signed Testaverde …2 years later he lost out to both McCown and Delhomme …the following year rookie Clausen replaced him in the 2nd game due to poor performance …Miami signed him in 2011 but lost out to Henne in camp …after Henne was injured, Moore had a decent season on a losing team and was named the team’s MVP …the team signed a new HC, took TH 8th in the draft, and brought in veteran QB Garrard to compete in camp …Moore lost, TH started

…that is three NFL teams and four NFL HCs that have deemed Moore a streak performer, inconsistent, and with a gun singer mindset …and not starting NFL QB material …Gase is the fourth HC in a row to come to the same conclusion

…and yet here we are 2nd guessing Gase’s decision to start Cutler over Moore once again …his “foolishness”

…look, Gase has seen both of these guys for equal amounts of time, camps, and games …up close, one on one, on film, and in games …and he …and 4 other NFL HCs before him has chosen to start the other guy over Moore

…and yet we, the armchair HCs of the world who only see them for 3 hours a week, at most, think he’s being stubborn, petty, and even foolish in once again starting Cutler over Moore

…we, who don’t have anything but our fandom on the line, are 2nd guessing an NFL HC who has his whole career on the line …it’s what we do

…sigh …yes, its me, the phin fan who was …after 5 games last year, screaming for Gase to replace TH with the practice squad QB …think I’ll go with Gase this time, eh

…I could be wrong, its possible …but 4 NFL HCs in a row have made the same call as Gase …its not about Gase, guys …its about Moore

You may have missed the point, so here’s the Cliff Notes 🙂

      1) “Right or wrong, Gase has demonstrated zero trust in Moore.” “I’m not saying Moore is or isn’t an answer. But you have to ask yourself, if Gase had this little trust in Moore, then why even sign him to his substantial contract?”

2)”If Moore can’t win the starting spot against a concussed QB with limited practice, who he outplayed, then Moore is nothing more than an injury fill in… if even that, in Gase’s eyes. With some good years left in him, why not find a place where he’ll have a chance to start.”

3)”But, let’s say #6 comes out, bombs, gets knocked out again, and Moore comes in and moves the offense? It’s happened 2 out of 10 games… that’s 20% chance…if this scenario does play out, then Gase will not only look like a jackass–again, but he’ll officially be one.”

“…we, who don’t have anything but our fandom on the line, are 2nd guessing an NFL HC who has his whole career on the line …it’s what we do”

Obviously, or we would all be called kool aide drinkers… no? Of course, if we run with this, he has had the same time with his Offensive Line. Is he right there as well?

      …sigh 😉
