Wounded & Reeling Will Phins Find A Way To Beat Chicago
Phins have home-field advantage over the Bears… and that’s about it
The Dolphins must somehow stop the nosedive of the last two weeks. But if they manage to pull off the ‘W’ in Week 6, it will be with 17 players on the injury report. Even Ryan Tannehill is listed as one the 11 questionable players with the Thursday revelation that he has a bum throwing shoulder.
Given the Bear potent pass rush, it’s likely Tannehill will be replaced by Brock Osweiler. Although, this is by no means a certainty.
The only way Miami can only pull off a shocker and stop the bleeding is if they play a near perfect game.
See last week’s game on how not to do it.
Mercifully, Laremy Tunsil will be available. At least Miami won’t be forced to baby the Right Tackle with help all game. Sam Young (who has been cut) or Zack Sterup would have certainly needed a bib against the Bears.
While Miami is the walking wounded, the Chicago Bears, on the other hand, are 3-1 and fresh coming off a complete blowout of the Bucs. They’ve had two weeks to prepare for Miami during their bye and are nearly unscathed.
This doesn’t bode well for the Phins.
The 2018 Bears have returned to their ‘Monster of Midway” form of old. They are #1 in both rush defense (64 yards per game) & points allowed per game (a measly 16.3). Add to their resume 8th against the pass, 3rd in interceptions, and 2nd in sacks and…
…That’s quite a mouth full.
Add in the best Linebacker in the game with Khalil Mack who has had an absolute monster season so far with 5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception touchdown in only 4 games. This could easily be an entire season’s worth of production for most players.
On offense, the Bears are averaging 27.8 points per game. However, that’s a tad inflated due to their 48-10 blowout of the Buccaneers in Week 4.
That’s the thing with the Bears… the context of their wins and stats bring them down to earth. They are beatable because this isn’t the 85′ Bears. These Bears were beaten by a one-legged Aaron Rodgers and defeated the Bucs, Cards, and Seahawks.
Second-year QB Trubisky is still raw and hasn’t been consistent this season.
This where Miami’s strength meets Chicago’s weakness. Miami has done an excellent job this season in creating turnovers with interceptions. The best way to create some picks this week is to get pressure on Trubisky.
Trubisky must be forced off schedule and into 3rd and long. This will depend on the Dolphins run defense. The Bears are averaging 121.4 yards on the ground per game and the Phins are giving up 109 per game.
Phins must do better than this in Week 6 if they want to win.
This brings it all back to the Dolphins Offensive Line and rushing attack.
Gase must be consistent with the inside run game. The Defense can’t be burnt out by the 1st Half because the Phins offense went 3 and out drive after drive after drive. The additions of Travis Swanson and Nick O’Leary will help tremendously in Miami’s attempt at physicality. Both players were big contributors to the Dolphins managing 5.8 YPC against the Bengals.
Gase has been not to bad at home… maybe that continues?
Gase been pretty good at home as the Phins coach with a 12-6 overall record. If Miami can keep this game close by playing smart (yeah, that’s asking a whole lot), there’s a shot they advance to 4-2.
As said earlier, it will take a near-perfect game: 100 yards on the ground, no turnovers, 5 or fewer penalties, and two turnovers by the Phins defense.
The best bookie service in the world, AcePerHead.com, opened the Dolphins as a +3 point underdog at home against the Bears. But now the line has moved up to +3.5, so they have grown more on Miami’s chances. The action is coming in heavy on the visiting Bears at just over a 5 to 1 ratio.
I won’t blow smoke up your tailpipe: There’s not a lot to like about this upcoming matchup for the Dolphins. As a fan, I’ll cling desperately to the ‘on any given Sunday’ thing for this one. Maybe the Phins squeeze out a victory in front of the home crowd? My answer right now is 100% without a doubt… maybe?! Come the kickoff, it will be 100% definitely… but how long that will last is anyone’s guess. Go Phins!!!
