One of the biggest enigmas wrapped in a riddle for the Miami Dolphins is in the name of Dion Jordan. The Dolphins traded up in the 2013 draft to select him as the third overall pick. During his first off-season he was still in the process of rehabbing a bum shoulder, and after he was deemed healthy enough to play the coaching staff often was befuddled in how to use him. His rookie year was pretty much a red-shirt year, and big things were expected from him coming into the 2014 season. He has been effective on the special teams unit, blocking a field goal, and recovering a blocked field goal attempt. In Jordan’s defense, he has not made very mistakes when he has been given playing time, and he has done well covering tight ends. However, he and the coaches still deem him as a defensive end, which means that he would need to beat out both Wake and Vernon in order to receive more playing time.

The mysterious part is that the Dolphins were weak and thin at the linebacker position all season, so why did the coaches refuse to give Jordan some reps at outside linebacker? I believe that Jordan has some talent, however, besides him lacking in the maturity department and being accountable for his actions, he needs some help from his coaches in order to develop into the player that everyone thought he could be. Heading into his third season, I do not want to hear the coaches say that they still can not find the correct way to use him. The coaches need to take some responsibility as well, and start finding a way to utilize his athleticism going into his third season, so why not start by experimenting at outside linebacker? They already made a position move with Misi this season, so why not do something similar with Jordan?
