Revis Island
We have already addressed the fact that Miami needs to find a corner back to play opposite Brent Grimes. There are quite a few names in free agency that Miami can consider, and this upcoming draft is not very deep in corner backs, so Miami should sign someone in free agency. One name that will command a big contract, but still should be considered is Darrelle Revis.
Revis is a show me the money type of guy, but he is also one of the best corner backs in the entire league, and most sports gambling fans would say he is Hall of Fame type material. Revis was battling injuries his last couple of seasons, however last year on New England he was healthy and produced another pro bowl season. He finished the season with 47 tackles, 2 interceptions, 14 passes defended, and 1 forced fumble. But the one thing that the stats do not tell you about Revis is that Quarterback’s rarely throw towards his side of the field. He has the ability to completely shut down his half of the field, and he can do it against the opposing teams’ best receiver.
Obviously getting a player of Revis’ caliber is going to cost a pretty penny, however he would make the Dolphins secondary one of the best in the entire league. Teaming him up with Brent Grimes would automatically give Miami the best CB combination in the league. To say that teams would have a hard time throwing against the Phins would be an under statement. Teams are throwing the ball more and more, so if a team can stop the pass, then they are putting themselves in a very good position to win a lot of football games.
The Dolphins will be able to create enough cap space to sign one big time free-agent, and this free agency period is going to have quite a few excellent players that play positions that Miami desperately needs to improve. The question is, is a player like Revis on the short list of players that Miami should strongly target?
Revis and Grimes would be a AWESOME combo. Not only would it give us the best corner back tandem in the entire league (Sehawks included), it would also help cripple our biggest foe-Patriots defense. Two birds with one stone!!!
For me though, if we are going to spend the BIG money, lets pony up and get Shu. A good pass rush makes good corners, a great pass rush makes great corners. No denying that Revis is a top 3 corner, and a player like Revis can improve your run “D” for the simple fact you can leave Revis alone (especially w/Grimes opposite him) with anyone and shift that extra help towards stopping the run.
As much of a fan I am for getting Shu, and if I had the choice between the two, I think I would lean towards Revis and draft a D-Tackle @ 14 (and I truly hope we draft a WR @ 14). Revis would be the choice between the two mainly because of what the pick up would do to the Patriots while improving the Fins!!! If we don’t get him I hope that some other team not in the AFC East does.
Yeah thats a very tough decision, Suh or Revis. Would love to get one, but I’m afraid Miami will not even try for either. Both players automatically make the defense better and would be worth the money
He’s just way to much money for what we can afford. If we sign him, we really have nothing left to fill the need at LB or OL. I know we can probably fill our OL need in the draft but we need someone at LB bad.
100% yes. There must be a caveat however. He should be paid top money for his position but if he is unable to play due to injury, he should not be paid for games missed. Pay him 1 million per game played. If he doesn’t play, he doesn’t get paid. The Dolphins should structure his contract so that, in the event of an injury that diminishes his level of play to the point where he is unable to contribute at his exceptional level, an insurance policy kicks in to pay his salary. The policy premium could be split between Revis and the Dolphins. if you’re a hired gun and money talks, let him put his money where his mouth is.
Not a bad contract idea
