Suh takes a visit to South Florida this week
I am being told from reliable sources that Ndamukong Suh has visited South Florida this week. Sure, he was on a vacation and South Florida is a reasonable place for a guy up north to take a vacation during the Wintertime, but Suh is no dummy, he knows the Phins are interested in him and it is only natural that thoughts will be going through his mind whether he could see himself living in South Florida. Hopefully, his experience in South Florida was better than he was expecting.
Yes, Suh is going to command around $100 million, which is an awful lot of money and will eat up a lot of Miami’s precious cap space, but he is worth every penny. He is in the prime of his career and was an All-Pro player 4 out of the last 5 years, and the last I checked Miami has 0 All-Pro players on their roster. He also spearheaded the best run defense in the league in Detriot, and would dramatically improve the Dolphins run defense, which is in a desperate need of a makeover.
In addition, the Bills just made a statement by trading for pro-bowl running back LeSean McCoy, and with Rex Ryan as the new head coach, pay per head reviews will wager every penny they have that he will be running the ball a lot against next year against Miami. Suh is also extremely talented at getting pressure on the QB, which will be a useful weapon when the Dolphins face Tom Brady twice next year.
Some sports gambling fans are even going as far as saying that Suh is the biggest free-agent to hit the market since Reggie White went to Green Bay in 1993 to team up with Brett Favre, and all he did was help the Packers win a Super Bowl. Yes, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning were huge names when they hit the free-agency market, however, both were coming off serious injuries, so there were huge question marks regarding whether or not they could get back to their usual form. However, in Suh’s case, he has only missed 2 games in his 5-year career and that was back in 2011. He is the best defensive tackle in the league and would finally be able to give the Dolphins an identity on defense. He is a fierce competitor that will bring some much-needed nastiness to the entire team.
What I am being told is that the Dolphins are definitely strongly considering Suh, and have already cleared cap space to make room for his huge contract. The Dolphins do have the added advantage from the low state income tax of Florida, and their biggest competition will probably come from either the Redskins or the Giants, both teams that do not have that unique advantage in regards to taxes.
If Miami does get Suh he will pigeon hole the Dolphins in being a big buyer in free-agency in regards to other players, but folks he is that good and fills a humongous hole on the roster, and would even allow us to comfortably part ways with Odrick and Starks. He is the type of player that can make your whole team better, and a player of his status does not come around often. This would surely be considered a bold statement by the organization and would show the fans that the Dolphins want to win, and they want to win now and at all costs. Especially since if they do not win this year a lot of people will be losing their jobs, including Hickey and Philbin.

Lets come down Dol-Fans: Miami cannot afford This Suh!
Scenerio 1 Miami Dolphins can pick up Two Corner in this free Agency for less.

c. I would take DT Eddie Goldman in the draft. Suh will cost to much! Goldman He can be the missing link.
d. Lastly if Suh is that good why don’t Detroit keep him?
I for one don’t buy into the idea of not being able to afford a guy like Suh. Allow me to explain. If you go into the cap numbers of the top five players of some of the leagues continuously successful franchises, according to Spotrac, like the Patriots ($65m due to the top 5 paid players), Broncos ($60m) Packers ($59m), Ravens ($58m), Steelers ($57m) you kind of see a pattern. That means they have the rest of the 46 players that count against the cap to squeeze into the remainder either by drafting well or getting the most out of the bucks by their coaches. If you look into the Dolphins spread, you find that the top contracts Wallace $12m, Albert $9.4m, Grimes $8m, Ellerbe $7m (wtf!!!!), and Wake, $6.6m, you find that adds up to just $43 million. We fill the rest of our roster with with players that according to the numbers, are more expensive and less successful. Now, if we were to sign Suh, and lets just say for a moment that some of us believe Tanny is the guy and should be extended sooner rather than later, then the new breakdown of our top five would be (roughly averaging Tanny and Suh at 15) Suh $15m, T-hill $15m, Wallace $12m, Albert $9m, and Grimes $8m, totallying $59m. No, if all these players play up to their contracts at marquee positions, anmd the rest of the other 46 fit in and play well too, is that the Superbowl winning formula?
I agree with you that that the Dolphins can afford Suh
I for one am very excited of even the possibility of the guy coming down here. I would much rather have Suh at $14million a season (per 6), which is probably around the price we can get him at, plus a $20 million signing bonus. I don’t know about all of you but I think this team needs to think win now. We are potentially one year away from hitting an all out reset button. Does anybody here wanna suck another 5 years? I for one have been loving this team far too long to know the outcome of going down the road of being a team mixed with multiple reasonably priced free agent vets and underplayed players on rookie contracts. They say we have this finance Guru in Aponte. Get it done. The cap number is only going to continue to grow the next 6 years. This year we could even extend Tannehill and still be well within the cap, by dumping all the excess baggage around there. Next year we can cut Wallace and pay for him. There is a huge difference in giving a guy like Wallace the contract we gave him and a guy like Suh. He is a franchise type player that serves as a dominant cog in our defense for years to come. I loved Odrick during his time here but if its him or Suh, I say…..bye. I would much rather see Suh and guys like Aj Francis and the two Johnsons, plus more drafted or undrafted rookies yet to come, playing and being developed by the coaching staff. My point is, if you have a starting D line with Wake, Vernon, and Suh, you should be able to put anyone in, and get production. Or the coaching staff has failed and the GM has failed. If the season failed, like it did this past season, like it seemingly has every season in a long time was because the talent was exposed. We have 0 All pro-players. We are soft up the middle. We are soft in attitude. He solves it all. Make it happen. Ross definitely wants to show South Florida he wants a winner, well, shell out a huge bonus for Suh, and front load the guaranteed money on the first 4 years, which barring any injury to this bull of a man we should get at least that much elite production out of him, and then leave your self an out on year 5 just in case.
One more thing to illustrate my point about how bad we need this guy. I am sure we would all expect the team to be even better next year hoping the O-line can continue to develop. Does anybody think Miami still misses the playoffs had Suh been in the team this past year (instead of say Starks)? Go back and watch the Miami-Detroit game. Tanny could barely get his hand comfortably gripped around the ball the whole first quarter before Suh devoured all the space around him. Our run game was non existent the whole game. He is worth every penny at that production. If we can’t seriously contend in the next two years with the pieces we have, then blow it all up. I’ll move to Tampa Bay.
Suh would overnight fix our run defense and make our entire team better. Miami needs to make this move happen and it all starts this Saturday when teams can begin speaking with free-agents
Suh doesn’t change a season. He scores zero TD’s. Yes, he’ll make teams dbl team him and he’ll make plenty of tackles and put pressure up the middle in pass rush but he won’t make a difference in the W column.
See Detroit Lions. What have they accomplished w Suh?
Fins better served find 3-4 impact players at several positions vs putting all those dollars into one position.
Spiller is injury prone and too similar to Miller so I would not sign him. At RB, the Phins need a power back to complement Miller, not more of the same. Signing Suh to 100 mil plus would be a mistake. These ginormous FA contracts almost always come back to haunt teams when they run into cap issues and can’t resign their own players or other FAs down the road. This team has too many needs to put all its eggs on one basket. Another thing to consider is Coyle will put Suh into his ill advised DL rotation and also have him dropping into coverage like he does with the other DL. So 100 mill on one player who will only play 75% or less of the defensive snaps and is likely to be misused by Coyle? Thank you no.
I would not want Spiller either. Just like you said injury prone and too similiar to Miller. We need downhill, bruising type runner to pair with Miller
If we could get Sue, Spiller, or Frank and get rid of Wallace we would truly be a contender.
I’m not a Frank fan at this point in his career, I do like the thought. Don’t sleep on Damian Williams, may not be explosive as Spiller, but he is going to our dark horse this year.
I was back and forth on Suh in the beginning, the more I think about it, the more programs I watch, I am stoked about the thought of adding Suh. Downfall is landing a CB, LBer, and/or WR via free agency may not come with a Suh signing. I am not worried though, SIGN Suh, fill in the other positions however/whoever. The thought of Suh and Mitchell surrounded by Wake and Vernon…..WOW, that would, could and should be dynamic and a nightmare for any “D” coordinator to prepare for, even Belichick. LETS DO IT, in NIKE’s case “JUST DO IT”!!!
Should this happen, this staff needs to figure out how to keep our “D” line fresh (because our bye is always, always early, and the Pats is always late-conspiracy). Not for 1 game, but for the entire season, keep this “D” line fresh for the month of December, especially Suh. I can see this staff running Suh into the ground and Suh losing his legs when December roles around and we go through another defensive colapse. With Suh though we may be in position to get a bye or rest our players in week 17. That is the kind of impact Suh will have.
Know how many Suh jerseys will be sold instantly!!! LOTZ
Just do it
Get SUH+++++++Also Cj Spiller that we are looking to pick up.Cut or trade wheeler,Ellerbe,Odrick,Also pick up a solid Wr in free agency.LETS GET SUH!!!!!!!Lets go Dolphins Amen!!!!!!!
Definitely. If we had Cj Spiller with Miller in the backfield that would be a lethal combo. If we have Suh we can finally solve the run and bully teams on defense.
