Phins V.S. Giants: The Chase Young Bowl

While this Phins game doesn’t have playoff implications, it is the Chase Young Bowl

With only three games left in the 2019 Season, this Sunday’s game will play heavily on the Miami Dolphins draft position. It’s a bit of Deja Vu as the Phins travel north again and play in the same exact stadium as last week. This time though, it’s against the New York Giants.

The Giants are 2-11 and the Dolphins 3-10, so there aren’t playoff implications. But a win will cripple the draft position for the victor. All the best sportsbook software sites like AcePerHead.com, has the Bengals selecting Joe Burrow with the #1 overall pick. There’s no way this doesn’t happen. Chase Young will go 2nd… and the Giants would love to replace Jason Pierre Paul.

So, if Miami wins this game both Young and Burrow will be off the board.

Dolphins V.S. Giants is the Chase Young bowl.

To be completely honest, I hope the Dolphins play well… but if they lose this game well, I won’t shed many tears. A win is always great, but a win this week will create little good for the future. It will, however, knock us out of the Top 5 in this draft.

Sure, if we do win, it would be wise for them to trade back and accumulate more picks… if they can find a willing trade partner. This is a good scenario too. However, a loss could put us in the number two position behind the Bengals. With two absolute studs in this draft, QB Joe Burrow and DE Chase Young, it would be a huge boost to our team if Miami can select either of them.

Young has been absolutely dominant this season with 16.5 sacks and 6 forced fumbles. And this level of production was had by Young only playing 10 out of the 13 games this season. Many draft analysts say he’s an even better draft prospect than the Bosa Brothers. That’s saying a lot considering both are tearing up the league.

Miami is starved for pass rushers. Getting Young will far outweigh getting a cheap win against the lowly Giants.

If Phins win they look good, if they lose they get closer to drafting Young

The Giants lost on Monday night in Overtime against the Eagles. They are tired and on a short week. But Eli Manning was back and had a good performance with 203 passing yards and 2 touchdowns and no turnovers. Rookie, Daniel Jones is expected to miss two to four weeks with a high ankle sprain, so Eli will be under center again this week. Despite being on the downside of his career, Eli will still present problems for Miami’s wounded secondary.

(Edit: the new injury report on Jones as per NFL.com: New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones (ankle) was limited in a walk-through practice on Wednesday. “I feel good,” Jones said via the team Twitter account. “I think I’ve gotten a lot better. I’m just taking it day by day.” Eli Manning took first-team reps on Wednesday and will continue to do until Jones is back and ready, the team tweeted. )

Even with one less victory than the Dolphins, the Giants are a -3.5 point favorite to win. In addition, the bets are coming in at a 2 to 1 ratio on the Dolphins. As I have mentioned in a previous article, when the public is betting the underdog this usually means the favorite wins. The public is rarely on the underdog side and when that happens it means the underdog wasn’t given enough points. So if Miami pulls off the win, it will be another feather in the cap of Brian Flores.

Win or lose, the Phins win. And neither team is playing to lose, so this will be an interesting game. But in the long run, the loser will be the one that wins more if they end up drafting Chase Young.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans’ feelings about this upcoming game?

We need to loose out, period! Need a solid chance to get Burrows or Chase Young, they guy is a beast! I also want this team to be in position to draft possibly another QB like Justin Herbert at Oregon. I would not bet that Tua comes out this year after his hip surgery. If he declares, then he would most likely be a pick in the 20’s. If he can play another year at Alabama and look good, his draft status goes way up in 2021 and he makes a lot more money $. We have 3 first round picks and I believe 3 second round picks. Need QB, T, C, DE, DL-Interior, CB. I like Godchaux, but I don’t think he is a 3 or 4 down D-Lineman. He is not physical enough and does not dominate. We need another young Suh on the DL. Anyway, it would go a long way is we can loose out! Then we are guaranteed at least the 2nd seed in the draft.

Hey, Stephen missed your comment. I need to look into Herbert. I don’t know his play. I watched only a game or two of his. I don’t think Tua will play football anywhere in all or most of 2020. Godchaux is a good run stopper, but not elite. I like Wilkens but Lawrence was the guy I wanted. We’ll see them go at it this week. I hope we get Burrow or Chase (unlikely) and if not we trade back.

  • I hate rooting against the team I’ve rooted for for 50 years. To want them to win but knowing that losing is “better” for the team drives me nuts. I’m not sure I would like a system like the NBA has and no one wants to see their team tanking either, and by the way, I sure wasn’t impressed with the Giants effort in the 2nd half of the Eagles game. Why wouldn’t you go for it when you’re 4th and 3 late in the 4th quarter with nothing to lose? They looked a hellava lot more like tankers then what they accuse the Fins of doing. I really dislike their situation right now and it’ll be the same thing when they play the Bengals, they will be better off losing but will be the favorite to win.

I’m of one mind with you, Denny! This is something I’ve been considering for some time… why are only the Dolphins being accused of tanking and no other team? Seems to have started when Flores and Stills banged heads in camp. Some sort of agenda though… whatever it is. Bengals and Giants have far more talent… where’s the tank talk for them? I am sorta’ enjoying the season, but it’s an awkward spot for a fan. I agree with Jimmy’s article in so many ways… but my heart can’t fully get there. I know getting the second overall pick would be huge… but I do really enjoy all the positive talk since Flores got this team to start winning. I liked the feel of last week’s loss though 🙂 This year that is…
