Tua Tagovailoa has been linked to the Phins all season
One thing is now certain: Tua Tagovailoa isn’t returning to Alabama next year and will be drafted by an NFL team. The big question is which team will select him and when? Most mock drafts predict Tua going 5th Overall to Miami.
For many Phins fans, Tua’s entering the 2020 Draft was exactly what they wanted to hear. Still, many other fans have mixed feelings about drafting Tua because of his injuries. Then there are the fans that hope Tua is selected… just not with the 5th Overall pick.
But shouldMiami not pull the trigger on Tua with the 5th pick, the chances are slim to none that he lasts until their next pick at 18. There are too many desperate and quarterback hungry teams for him to fall that far. So, the fans hoping to get Tua on the cheap are probably out of luck.
The various per head solutions companies are pegging 50% chance the Dolphins draft Tua 5th Overall. Some general managers are even saying Miami must trade up to get Tua because other teams may jump ahead of them to select the Alabama quarterback.

When Miami started winning mid-season they were knocked out of the ‘Tank for Tua’ and Joe Burrow seemed their ‘consolation prize’. But now, with Tua’s hip injury and Burrow playing off the charts, Miami could view the injury as a blessing in disguise. Let’s remember that owner Steven Ross missed out on Lamar Jackson because Chris Grier demanded they draft Minkah Fitzpatrick instead. Now add on top of this miss how keen Ross is of Tua. The opportunity to get Tua and make amends for missing out on Lamar could be ‘too good’ to pass on. This draft will tell us if Ross really is hands-off or not.

With the draft is about 100 days away, the ‘Tua conversation’ will run ad nausea until then. But, considering the future of this organization is directly tied to the Tua decision, the excess coverage is understandable. So,here’s the Jimmy Burbon take: I’m as worried about Tua being injury prone as the Phins having another ‘Drew Brees moment’. Passing up on an elite quarterback due to injury concern and watching another franchise reap the benefits of taking the risk gives me nightmares.
I don’t know what is the best move for Miami. It’s not an easy call at all. But listening to the media repeat how Miami missed on Tua for the next 15 years wouldn’t be fun.
With Tua entering the draft, at least another QB option is there. For now, it’s wait to see what Miami’s Free Agency decisions will be. This will give a good hint on how they will draft. If they stock up on FA Offensive linemen it could give them the flexibility to take a risk on Tua Tagovailoa at #5. Then it will be Tua, Tua, Tua after that, too!

Tannehill is an illustration of how the Dolphins screw up good players. There is a long list of starters on other teams that were Dolphin busts. Taking Tua is a big mistake. He has bad ankles and a bad hip. He has shoulder trouble too! When you couple his injuries with our penchant for screwing up players, we should pass on young Frankenstein. Tannehill was sacked about 100 times.
We should trade down o. Those picks and replace all of the all pro players we traded this year. We need to stop the run and develop a running game. Fitzpatrick understands the offense and Rosen is a bargain backup.
I can’t fault or counter one bit of your argument. I didn’t many vids showing Tanny wasn’t the primary problem… The Titans have the perfect roster for him. Tanny’s cousin read us when he was here and we talked a bit. I said he’d do great in Tenn. Good for him. He was an A class guy. And I’m not emotionally invested like Jimmy is with Tua. Taking him would be a major mistake with anything less than our thrid pick in the 1st… maybe even that would be too high. I’ve been higher on Burrow to start the season, but a healthy Tua would be a nice option to have… he isn’t and we should 100% pass. This is will be a fork in the road for this franchise one way or the other.

Look , a broken finger so what , splattered ankles “big red flag” a dislocated and fractured hip socket , A Fvcking Screaming Siren and Purple Flashing lights should be blaring all over the draft room . Especially with our horrible record of the Draft .
Joe, I agree 100%!!! Jimmy has liked Tua for a long time and I think he’s being a bit emotional on the decision. BUT, I 100% agree that if we pass on him and he pulls a Frank Gore, who recovered from two torn ACLs in college that it would suck 100%. My take… and yours too is that the chances aren’t in our favor. So, I prefer the trade back with the 5th or grabbing the right guy over Tua.

Tannehill just won a chance to go to the big game next week. Well so much for a franchise quarterback. He wasn’t playing that well for the Dolphins. My point being if you put a mediocre QB in a good team they will win. Having said that Miami has a bunch of picks, use them on OL’s and DL’s. Build the team from the lines you just can’t go wrong. I don’t know if I would use a really high pick on a QB. History shows us there are more busts than booms in low draft picks. If they build the team the right way, any “good” lunch-pail QB will do a great job for Miami. Edge DLs’ are much more important anyhow.
