Trade-Up Talk for Tua Tagovailoa is Madness!

Tua Tagovailoa has started the talk show circuit & the hype train has left the tracks

Tua Tagovailoa began his draft stock push with a media blitz Thursday to reassure everyone he’s on track to full recovery. And nearly every interviewer declared Tua the best player in the draft and wondered if he would still end up the #1 overall pick!

Seriously, they said!

Many of the talking heads even said that interested teams must trade up to get him–maybe even the Dolphins. Given the state of Tua’s body and his track record of injury, any Miami Dolphins’ trade-up talk to draft him is utter madness. Even Jimmy Burbon, who is starving for a franchise quarterback in Miami, agrees trading up for Tua is tough to swallow.

Yes, this is just media-driven lunacy and the Dolphins aren’t crazy enough to get on board.

Right?!

Unfortunately, plenty of regimes from every franchise have become hypnotized into foolish moves by pre-draft hype. I believe this Dolphins regime is smarter than that. But, let’s just pray anyway that Steven Ross, Chris Grier, and Brian Flores don’t even put a foot on board this hype train. Guess, we’ll find out if Ross is truly hands-off or not.

Tua in a bubble is a great prospect

Now, I hope Tua fully recovers and has a long and successful career. Tua showed himself to be a wonderful kid in every interview. But I did notice he was still favoring that hip when he walked. Also, contrary to what he was saying, Tua didn’t look certain about his recovery. As nice and talented as Tua is, neither will matter if he doesn’t heal right or continues to be injured. And not to sound uncaring, but the Miami Dolphins’ future is what I’m most concerned about this draft.

Anything is better than trading up to pick Tua

If the Dolphins draft him without trading up, I’d sorta’ get it. Now, I wouldn’t be happy about the move because I don’t think they should even consider Tua until mid to late 1st Round the earliest. And maybe after a few six-packs, I could even somehow ‘homer myself’ into drafting Tua with the 5th pick. There’s no doubt Tua has a ton of talent and has an elite character. This has nothing to do with him as a person or player…

… But, all those injuries!

This regime could recover from taking Tua, even with the 5th Overall, and him not panning out… if they do very well with their other picks. But if the Phins trade up to get Tua and he isn’t great AND healthy, this regime is done. Even if Tua becomes only decent and healthy or is great and always injured, it’s game over. Trading in all those picks for Tua means it’s great or bust.

Yes, there is a chance trading up from him could end up a cinderella miracle. But, what’s the better bet with the pay per head reviews: 3-5 blue-chip picks on Tua Tagovailoa or using those blue chip-picks on other players and draft trades?

Columnists and media types say go for it because they really don’t have any skin in the game. Most aren’t Dolphins fans and if things go south they’ll have plenty to write about. But, after two decades of terrible football, this Phins fan can take just about anything but an epic trade-up and strike-out on Tua. Cross your fingers that we don’t have to cross that bridge. Go Phins!!!

Damien Williams’ late score gives Chiefs a double-digit lead

Chiefs 31, 49ers 20 (1:12 remaining in the fourth quarter)

Damien Williams of the Kansas City Chiefs may have just wrapped up Super Bowl LIV and picked up the Super Bowl MVP award.

I have to note! The Dolphins cleaned house this season and still did not play bad enough to win the number one or two spot in DRAFTING. It would indicate a loss in strategy to start trading away picks for a top few players?

Admin and Dol-Fans many X Dolphins players have been making underwhelming contributions threw out the NFL league who were labeled not good enough to play for Dolphins. I surely hope the dolphins have created this conducive environment that is team building, The only way to see improvements is when trading players for more than you paid for them and Winning in prime time and championships games.

Injuries are going to happen! Certainly its true there are players who don’t missed games this is the route I would take regardless how talented the player is.

2019 SPORTS HEADLINES READ: A slew of quarterback injuries has changed the landscape of the NFL just two weeks into the season.
The Saints, Steelers, Jets, and Jaguars are all attempting to weather the storm without their starter, relying on backups to hold the fort.

There has to be an incentive clause for taking care of yourself?

SELECTING A BACKUP QB IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE SELECTING A STARTING QB YES OR NO?

With Rosen and Fitz another quality QB as a backup and potential starter is key. They just need to get Rosen to starting production. If not, he’s a waste of a second and they’ll need to draft two QB in the next two years.

    To: Jimmy B. and M.J.
I can always count on you guys to dial-in on topics that are near and dear to the hearts of Dolphin fans everywhere. As it relates to the drafting of Tua’, the idea that the FO, HC, and owner would draft a player with his injury history and current injury seems ill thought-out. Of course none of us really know what parameters the FO uses but I’m sure it will be through – aren’t you ? It’s going to be very interesting for the next few months. Just get someone with great physical attributes, a good football I.Q, an a commitment to being a team-player. Oh’… and please shore-up the OL, DL, and DB’s. Please !

Thanks a ton, Fred… that’s a great compliment. Yeah, I was glad to hear Ross mention the injuries concern him… gives me hope they are using their heads and not their hearts. I don’t believe they would trade up… But, I’ll be very happy when I see they don’t on draft day.

I predict that Tua is this year’s Brady Quinn. There a couple of veteran QB’s free and a never injured Tua would still be behind the LSU Superman Joe Burrow. There are several outstanding quarterbacks coming out this year. When you throw in injuries, his draft stock drops. When considering a trade up, ask yourself who the last great Alabama Quarterback was? Was Richard Todd, Joe Namath or Ken Stabler?

“When considering a trade-up, ask yourself who the last great Alabama Quarterback was? Was Richard Todd, Joe Namath or Ken Stabler?”

Nailed it! Not to say he can’t be, but this along with all the other pieces say the wisest move isn’t Tua… especially not with a trade up.
