It is time to roll with our Tight ends

sportsbook

The Dolphins had quite an interesting start to the free-agency period in regards to their Tight End position. They started by putting the transition tag on their starting TE Charles Clay, which allowed other teams to offer Clay a contract but, Miami would get the chance to match it if they wanted. However, if they did not match the contract they would not receive a draft compensation from another team, like they would have if they had assigned the franchise tag. As a result Clay received heavy interest from the Bills, whom were determined to do whatever they could to snatch Clay from Miami. As a result of the writing on the wall, Miami pulled a stunning 12th hour Houdini trick and signed Jordan Cameron right under the Cleveland Browns’ snouts. There was a brief period where it appeared that Miami was going to be able to keep both TE’s and have arguably the most dangerous TE combination in the league, but the Bills made an overwhelming offer that Miami financially could not match.

Now Miami has Jordan Cameron penciled in as the starter with Dion Sims as a solid second TE, along with last season’s 5th round pick Arthur Lynch who is still recovering from a back injury. Many of the best sportsbooks in the world are saying that this group is a high risk, high reward type of group. When Cameron is healthy he is one of the better TE’s in the league (probably even better than Clay), however health has been a concern for Cameron over his career. Sims has shown promise over his first two seasons, but the fact is that he is still raw and has had limited game time opportunities. As far as Lynch, he has yet to even play a snap in an NFL game, and did not even get to finish mini camp so there are huge question marks in regards to whether he can even hack it in the NFL.

With all that being said about Miami’s TE’s, if you were the GM would you look to use a draft pick on a TE in the upcoming draft? My opinion is absolutely NO. The reason is because we have too many other holes to fill like WR, LB, G, S, RB and CB, and some of those positions it may be wise to even double down on. The Dolphins are already with out a 3rd round pick so their first two picks are at a high premium and picking a TE in the first or the second round would just be useless. I see no reason at all why Miami would waste one of their precious draft picks on a position like TE, which is not as big of a question mark as other positions.

We can make do with Cameron, Sims, and Lynch, that group has clear upside, unlike Guard where we are relying on a player that have never played (Turner) or a player that played horribly (Thomas), unlike running back where where we have no power back on the entire roster, unlike wide receiver where we do not have a true number one WR, unlike Cornerback where we have huge questions marks opposite of Grimes, unlike LB where we have Jenkins, Misi and everyone else, and unlike Safety where Delmas still needs time to recover from an ACL injury.

So with all these other vacant positions on the roster, I would be highly disappointed if Miami used one of their draft picks on a TE. What does the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans think about whether or not Miami should draft a TE at the end of the month?

They really do need to take a look at drafting a TE. You mention that we are relying on a guard who hasn’t even played. Well, the same could be said about TE (Lynch), that would leave 2 TE’s w/experience. If one goes down, not sure. Can’t be in the first two rounds, unless Maxx Williams is there in the second round. There must be great value for drafting a TE.

  • Remember what a tight-end brings: a blocker, runner, and a receiver!!!! This should be our second pic. We need A full back or a quick running back. Re-sign N.M. The best running back we have. Ricky Williams was our last great running back. When was our last running back taken in the draft??????????

I believed that Nick Sabin selected Ronnie Brown from Auburn in the 1st round 10 pick not certain.

The second overall pick. Imagine that, the second overall. Then again, D.Jordan was the third overall pick, and J.Long was the very first overall pick. And I thought that the Browns always screw their first round picks up!

    Agree with you
We must roll with the TE’s we have
Would have been great to have kept Clay but if we get a receiver in the first round of the draft we will be ok with our receiver corps
