AFCE Rumble Royale: Dolphins V.S. Patriots
Patriots have had the worst off-season following a Super Bowl win that I can remember. Regardless of what side of the fence you’re on, it doesn’t get much worse than millions questioning the legitimacy of a victory.
Furthermore, the Patriots must enter this season with a large question mark over their QB’s availability and their star-studded CB duo and Hall Of Fame DT no longer on their squad. So let’s take a moment for some good ole’ ribbing, laced with a little sadism, and twist the knife in honor of their woes:
Okay, back to being serious. The Pat’s, despite their issues, will still be tough – we can hate them (A LOT) and still be honest with ourselves. We know Belichick will scheme up the Pats secondary above their talent level or lack thereof. We know yards will be put up in the passing game. We know Gronk will be Gronk – as nauseating as that is. But Pats besides the aforementioned issues have another negative against them: the schedule favors Miami.
Fins play in Foxboro in week eight and this early match up should let them avoid any terrible weather. Their second meeting (and obvious home-field advantage) puts a gigantic advantage in Miami’s court for this pivotal the last game of the regular season. Now, with his abundance of 3 step drops and ability to handle the rush with his intelligence and ability to climb the ladder, interior pressure is the most crucial…Enter Suh. Suh presence WILL open inside lanes for Wake and Vernon (for the first time in a long time) as well as LB blitzes – it’s this inside presence that will be the yellow brick road to Phin fans chanting “Ding-Dong the witch is dead!” Okay, it’s time to cue another moment of good ole’ ribbing, laced with a little sadism as we twist the knife in honor of their woes.
This season will go through New England – again. Miami’s regime will stand or fall by how they respond to the challenge of New England. All the pieces are there for a new king of the AFCE. Suh will give Miami the opportunity to rise and fall off of what he brings to the table. Suh’s tossing aside guards and centers will open the flood gates. BUT, it will be up to the coaches to take advantage. This can and must be the season where the Dolphins usher in a new era – I believe they can do it! GO FINS!!!

Perry, Well said, and I agree about the roster. Barring any catastrophic injury there is no reason this team should not at least be in the playoffs via wildcard. As much as many people want to see Tannehill take the next step and become a game changer and leader (myself included), I personally would like to see this coaching staff (mainly Philbin) take that next step and be a game manager and a leader himself. This is Philbin’s third year, so noticeable improvements must be made or out the door. One of thee biggest challenges for Philbin (if not thee biggest) is finding a medium where this team (most importantly the Defense) does not get worn down in December, but are fresh and playing their best in December. If we are peaking in December, we win the division and get a #1 or #2 seed w/a first round bye.
The roster is there, play-makers are there, good depth just about every where. I know corner and O-Line is a concern, but every single team in the NFL has a concern or two going into the season. Again, outside a catastrophic injury, playoffs or a new regime next season. For me, I so hope it is the playoffs and beyond.
Dunner I agree – the age pf 90’s 49ers and Cowboy’s are over – No team is without warts. We will have a fierce pass rush and passing O for sure. In today’s game that essential those are two essentials. I think our roster has holes, but it isn’t Swiss cheese by a long shot. Other coaches make more with less…it’s time our staff coaches up and make the squad play above their heads.
This schedule has its good and bad,,a trip to the uk? long trip ! I see that as a downside, but with the schedule aside, you have to realize Tanne in his second year in the Lazor offense he becomes a true leader this year, with the new contract Tanne got has had to give him a strong mental stance in maturity, Landry in his second year? I think he breaks things wide open!, The drafting of Parker? A serious endzone threat, Jordan Cameron, a true probowl tight end, more serious endzone options! Miller coming off a 1,000 yd season with the addition of Ajayi? power and finess, the swap from Wallace to stills even trade at worse! Pulling in Suh and the rest of the d line? much upgraded! corners and oline are concerns as well as coaching, we have more talent on this team than we have had in years, but how talented is our head coach? still a wait and see, with this roster we should make the playoffs and win the division no doubt, but if we don’t it will be on Philbin!, Lets hope he dosent continue to make in game mistakes with his coaching and decision making! Fins up!
Perry, Not worried about the London trip. Miami has played more games over there than any NFL team and they have fared pretty well in all. This trip should be familiar for most.
Yeah, Perry Head Coach is definitely the lynch pin. It’s make or break this year for him in my eyes. We lost more than we won last season due to his coaching. But, he has this season to show his detractors. I’m hoping and praying he makes me eat a ton of crow!!!
Thing that worries me about the schedule is they need to win a lot early. If we want the division to mean something at home vs the pats then they have to come out strong. Overall schedule gets much tougher as the year goes on. With as much as I love this roster that scares me. It always takes teams with lots of new faces time to gel. Especially wideouts although this short to medium passing hopefully will be easier to get on the same page. I think Jennings could end up as the key offseason signing.
Yes they do need to win early, but the teams they play early are all very very winnable games. Hopefully the defense can be special and will come out strong, which will give the offense some time to gel
Travis, this season has to be a man up season. We can’t skate, we can’t sputter. Philbin MUST put together a 10 or 11 win season. Sputter early and die late, we have to dominate. Yeah, given Miami’s history over the last decade plus it is nerve wracking, but I’m more of the mind that nothing less than a strong season will suffice. If not flush the head coach and get a new one.
Honestly, this has the appearance of a very good roster – better than any in 2 decades. Suh has been one of my favorites (aside from self control issues). I love Wake and in a way he reminds me of Marino – SuperStar fighting alone: Wake triple teamed / Marino 1st down nickle package. Suh is an equal or maybe even greater star…a Star Marino was never paired with (except Stevenson). I want that last game to be for all the marbles as I want Miami to TAKE the division and I think they can!! Say it with me Dunner : GO FINS!!!

Seems that Miami has a most favorable schedule against the Pats this year.
Game one the Pats will have 4 days to prepare for the Thursday night game vs Miami. Not only 4 days to prepare, 4 days to prepare for a Unfamiliar Miami team, one like they have not seen in many many years.
Miami gets the same 4 days, but the Pats philosophic should not be as much as change as Miami’s will be. Not to mention that Brady will have a short week to prepare for his second game of the season (suspension sticking).
The second game could define either teams seasons, not only that, could define Miami’s coaching staffs future as well. New England will have its second straight road game and 3rd in 4 weeks. The game will be Miami’s second straight home game and fourth home game in 5 weeks.
Highly doubt this game will be meaningless (division/wildcard/home field/1st/2nd seed?), which would make me a little nervous normally, not so much this year, not with this roster, not with this group of players. I have a good feeling, let’s just hope that if Miami hasn’t already won the division and a first round bye (very possible), that everything is on the line in this game, a division title a 1 or 2 seed/first round bye and the loser is sent packing for the season. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
We have definitely been blessed with the scheduling this year, and I truly think that last game for the season is going to be the Sunday Night Flex game of the week, because the winner will decide who wins the AFC East
