Is Another Phins Rebuild on the Horizon?!

The Phins just had a rebuild in 2019… is the next one in 2022?

After losing last week in London to the winless Jaguars, the Miami Dolphins face a well rested Atlanta Falcons with the 2021 Season all but lost. Now 1-5, the Jags defeat was second loss this year to a winless team with the Colts being the first. As if this isn’t terrible enough, we don’t even get our own 1st RD pick (which appears like it will be at least a Top 10 pick) because we traded that to the Eagles to move up and select Jaylen Waddle.

This isn’t a knock on the player, but that’s one hefty price tag for just about any single play not a quarterback.

The Phins are paying the piper

Ja’Marr Chase, who has absolutely been tearing it up, is in the driver’s seat right now for Offensive Rookie of the year. We could have had him at #3 if we had stayed put. Don’t get me wrong, Waddle has played decently, but nothing near what a bigger more durable Chase has done.

The good news is at least we still get the 49ers 1st Round pick in 2023!

As good at wheeling and dealing to acquire more draft capital as Chris Grier has been, he’s been just as bad at what he has done with the draft ammo. That 2020 draft where we had 3 first round picks, we could have had Herbert, but went with Tua. This isn’t a knock on Tua’s future, but of course Herbert is already a superstar in the making! Then we landed Jackson and Igbinoghene, who are just flat out not very good.

Now Phins fans and the Dolphins are left to our yearly last ditch defense of looking for moral victories in another lost season, which will probably be a precursor to another reset and rebuild attempt next year. The Dolphins are now hosting the 2-3 Falcons, and they are the underdog. At the beginning of the season this was supposed to be a game we should be able to handle at home and win. Now though, the Dolphins are a +2.5 point underdog at home on all the betting software solutions websites out there.

How quickly this team has fallen.

How deep does this hole go? IS there light at the end of the tunnel?

The problem is that there are A LOT of problems! The Offensive line has regressed. I would love to say we should use our entire next draft on offensive and defensive Linemen….

… However, if we don’t have the scouts and coaches to get the right guys, then that’s probably not the ideal situation either!

What to do, what to do?

We have no running game, and even though I do like Gaskin, I’d feel much better with a guy like Najee Harris, or Jonathan Taylor sharing carries with him. Both of these players we had a chance to draft but since we value running back as much as tits on a bull, we never addressed this.

It’s sad because it looks like Tua will turn into Tannehill, who always showed potential with us but was never protected with a stout offensive line and stud running attack. Now in Tennessee, Tannehill gets the job done and gets them in the playoffs each year, including an AFC Championship game in 2019.

Miami is repeating their failings once again with Tua by not giving him a solid offensive line and running attack. Then he’ll be labeled as a bust here, go to another team that knows how to properly build an offense, and get that team into the playoffs. At least we are consistent, I guess.

Then on defense, it’s just a hot mess.  We get limited pressure on the QB, can’t defend the run, and our linebackers can’t cover wide receivers. Plus our two highest paid corners in Jones and Howard both didn’t play last week because of injuries… and haven’t played like top paid cornerbacks all year.

Well, enough of all that good news!

Hopefully Miami can show some improvement this week, maybe even win the game, and not let the Eagles enjoy having the 3rd Overall Pick in the draft next year!

Sorry I got in on this conversation a few days late but I agree with everything I’ve read. We all thought Grier was God when he acquired all of the picks. But we now know he is clueless on talent or our scouts need to go. My biggest complaint on Flores is the turnover of coaches. Now I will say I have liked Flores with the exception of the challenges in the Jacksonville game.I touched on this last month how each year we have new OC’s and DC’s.I just learned yesterday that our OL coach is his 1st time being a OL coach. So we have a 1st year OL coach with a line full of 1st and 2nd year players. We are on our #3&4 OC’s in Flores 3rd year. I just do not understand why the turnover on coaches.O’shea was ok,Gailey was ok and now we have what we have.Maybe coach Flo is just hard to deal with? I don’t know but I do believe if we could get a veteran OL coach we at least would be in a better position(if he would stick around for more than one year). As I have stated before I’ve been a dolfan since our beginning in ’66 and it’s so frustrating not even midway through this season we are having to endure another lost season. GO FINS!!!

I believe I have recently stated that I would not have played with the draft picks. I would have taken Chase at 3 and Harris with my lower pick. If you look back, I wanted to keep Fitzmagic – not draft Tua – and wait for one of this year’s QB’s. However, I said that if you have to draw a QB you take Herbert and not Tua. Oh, and the year before that I suggested that they take Lamar Jackson, who was still on the board when we drafted. Hell, even Ross like Jackson.
Maybe Ross and Grier should come by for an espresso before the draft next year! There is no such thing as a valid rebuild with idiots at the wheel.

“I believe I have recently stated that I would not have played with the draft picks.”
I agree… if you are trading back up. If you just stack waiting for that great buy and keep accumulating 1sts with a long term build then I’m fine. What Grier did was moronic… unless he hoped to land Pitts or Chase in the trade back. Pitts was my only guy worth sitting for. I’d of moved up to get Slater form 18 in this case if I new how terrible Jackson was…. man he is so bad! We could have had Cosmi who is playing lights out… we just don’t have a good scouting system or GM.
If you look back, I wanted to keep Fitzmagic – not draft Tua – and wait for one of this year’s QB’s. I wanted to pass on both QBs and keep Fitz as well. I suck at evaluating college QBs though… I wanted to wait though as well. For me, this ALL comes down to someone made the decision to start Tua without talking to the OC and his staff and put him in when he didn’t know the playbook and wasn’t healthy. This was to prime mover for why we are in a disaster… everything bad flows form that decision. Tua’s struggles, Flores lack of staff, poor offense in 2021…. on and on… my bet is that it was Grier desperate to make his pick look good and it’s likely why we made such a mad dash to give him help…

    Hello Admin & FinFans

Considering this list is correct? We need to empty/trade this roster of those who cannot play 10 games out of two year.

    2022 MIAMI DOLPHINS PICKS
1st round — Pick from San Francisco
    2nd round — Own pick
3rd round — Own pick, pick from San Francisco

Steve, I can’t agree any more. We squandered so much capital and financial ammo on players with an injury history. We need to spend a good amount of funds on a veteran lineman and then draft wisely. The greatest hope we can have is Grier is finally purged from this regime… ashame, he did so well in acquiring picks… but he has been sub oar in spending those picks. Hope all is well.

This should come as no surprise
when Grier was an assistant in charge of evaluating players he did a lousy job – did not draft not even one pro player in all those years
So we elevate him to GM
Grier has to go and not at the end of the season
he has to go now and bring in an expert that can judge personnel and get us some pro bowlers
but the new GM needs to evaluate what we have and to do that he should get on board now
Last year we passed also on the top center Ruiz a Pro bowler to pick Igbinoghene, a total bust so far (certainly not worth a first round pick)
Until we get a good GM we will repeat the mistakes and draft mediocre players who get hurt all the time.
Time to trade Howard is now – This season is a bust. So why keep him. Get a good draft pick in return
New GM can get it done
Some of the blame has to go to Flores also
Why didn’t he help draft good players. ?? or is he part of the problem too. ??
    So many mistakes made

As a Die Hard Dolphins fan I am so upset and Disappointed

This is nearly as factual as the sky is blue! New GM and scouting staff… unless Grier screws up reading their data. For me, Flores has made mistakes… but, this place is a real $&#$ show and he’s had to deal will so much extra junk. I would love to find a real football guy to take over and make his decision on Flores… I think he’d keep him. Whatever the cost… Flores or not, Miami must purge itself of Grier… he is a disaster. It’s the only way forward… will Ross do it? Will he try to give him one more season for ole time sake? I like Flores and think whoever forced Tua in last season without consulting Gailey cost us Gailey and Marshal and that was a massive bleed out of coaching talent and is the MAIN reason we are here. Many say Gailey sucked… I hope I don’t offend you, but they don’t have a clue what they are talking about.
Grier MUST go or fans should revolt.

      Ralp!

I’m not sure Flores has developed that skill yet drafting player’s he pick Igbinoghene with the 3rd 1st round pick.

I think that college coach turn Pro has the edge on recruiting example Nick Saban, Erban Myers, Jimmy Johnson they would have the edge.

We can’t get upset with Flores other than coaching at this Point. Steve Ross is the main blame i.e. Grier draft to lose does not have a clue. They brought Flores down to Miami and has given him a high school team to compete each Sunday. Having discussion about the QB, interior offensive and defensive linemen Steve Ross has accepted for years. The owner has to have a Pro bowler offensive line mentality. I still believe in Flores 100%!
