2021 Phins Disaster Has No End in Sight
The Phins disaster of a 2021 Season could keep getting worse
This season started with such hope! Even most of the sports betting software websites were predicting the Miami Dolphins to be a real playoff contender this year! However, this season has turned into a nightmare with Miami losing 7 straight games with the third worst record in football. The steep regression was unimaginable this offseason… but here we are.
To add insult to injury, the Dolphins can’t even capitalize on their terrible record by gaining the current 3rd pick in the draft because they traded it away to the Eagles to move up and select Jaylen Waddle.
Too bad Miami didn’t take Herbert last year, Chase this year, and either Swift, Taylor or Harris at running back! Wow, that would have been some three headed monster to build off for years to come. Instead the Dolphins are staring at another hard reset and rebuild. This time though they won’t even have the luxury of additional draft picks to soften the blow.
Chris Grier must go… no ifs, ands, or buts!
Clearly, Grier needs to be fired after this year! Since Miami likes trying out of the box things, and is already been the laughing stock of the NFL for decades, maybe they make a contest like the Apprentice for the next GM of Miami! They should add some diehard fans a chance to apply as well.
Sure this sounds like a joke, but isn’t that what this franchise has become? Just about anyone that reads this blog could have made better draft selections over the past decade then the actual organization has made. So maybe this isn’t as crazy as it sounds.
With the trade deadline fast approaching Miami should look to dump some talent that will not be around for the next rebuild. Might as well get some draft picks for it, regardless if we don’t have someone capable of using them. Some prime candidates would be Parker, Wilson, Howard, Byron Jones, Preston Williams, Ogbah, Wilkins, and even Gesicki.
I hate to put Gesicki on the list and would love for Miami to re-sign him. But they re-signed Sanders and Baker before their contracts were up… yet they didn’t do the same with Gesicki. He is a better player than both… but, that’s the type of logic we work with in Miami. Gesicki has improved each season and is arguably one of the Top 5-10 Tight ends in the league. If Gesicki were locked up in a long term contract, you could argue he has the potential to become one of, and if not the best tight end in Miami Dolphins franchise history. Also, Miami actually drafted this player, so considering their lack of success with drafting players, it should be a no brainer to keep Gesicki around.
So, if they don’t plan to re-sign him after the season, they might as well trade him now to at least get something for him.
To their credit, there still some life in the team
The Dolphins showed some improvement on defense against the Bills. This team hasn’t quit… not yet and that’s a credit to the players and Flores. Problem is this team is in way over it’s head on so many levels that effort isn’t enough.
When it counted the most at the end of the game, the Bills final 4 drives ended in points. Sorry, but you are not going to win many games with a defense that allows that to end the game. Also, this defense is horrendous on third and longs, it’s almost like the opposing offense has us just where they want us when it’s down and distance, and then they throw an easy and wide open pass to convert the first time.
That’s the way it’s been all season, though.
Hopefully, Miami can at least win a few games this season, just so they don’t gift the Eagles with a Top 3 draft pick in 2022. Sad that this is what we are left to root for!
What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts on this terrible season?
Another QB may be a good fit for Dolphins and he is moving up the draft boards.
Pitt QB Day 3 projected draft board.
Kenny Pickett has a wealth of experience on the college football stage — more than most quarterbacks that will suit up this year. He was regarded as a serious 2021 NFL Draft prospect in 2020 but chose to return to school for his redshirt-senior season. He’s amassed 7,984 passing yards and 568 rushing yards and should break 10,000 yards from scrimmage this year.
Pickett has long been a mainstay for the Pittsburgh Panthers and ACC football, in general. But at some point — as hard as it may be to admit — the Pickett experience will be gone from college football, and the Pitt QB will make the long-awaited leap to the NFL. We know how exciting Pickett can be as a college football signal-caller, but does he have the upside to earn the same opportunities at the professional level?
Pickett’s physical profile
Let’s start with Pickett’s physical tools, where the Pitt QB is surprisingly well-equipped. Standing at 6’2″, 220 pounds, Pickett is a good athlete with a strong frame. With his mobility, he can sidestep rushers, escape the pocket, and produce on the ground. He also has elite competitive toughness. Pickett is clutch in crucial moments, and he plays through injuries, putting it all on the line each Saturday afternoon.
Even more so than Pickett’s athleticism, however, his arm demands attention. The Pitt QB has a crisp, compact, and efficient throwing motion, which easily generates velocity. With this velocity, Pickett leads receivers downfield and pushes the ball past defenders. He also fits the ball into tight spots and has the elasticity to adjust his trajectory and ball placement.
ESPN’s Todd McShay ranks Willis as the No. 1 quarterback in the class and Corral at No. 2. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., ranks Corral at No. 2 and Willis at No. 4. The analysts at Walter Football and Yahoo Sports have Corral at No. 1 and Willis at No. 2. In a mock draft, USA TODAY Sports DraftWire has Willis as the first quarterback off the board and Corral second. In a Sports Illustrated mock draft, Corral is the second quarterback picked and Willis is the fourth.
Good info, Steve… To me, if Grier is here I haver zero faith in anything we do… We could have been in play for both if we didn’t chase Waddle. Now, we are in no man’s land.
I’m sure Willis will fall to a mid rounder: The best fit for the Dolphins, along with a solid line powerful run game.
Willis is another draft darling. He’s scored 30 touchdowns, 21 passing and nine rushing. He leads all FBS quarterbacks in rushing yards and is doing so while completing 66.7% of his passes for 9.5 yards per attempt.
“I get reports from our guys on how hard he is to defend and that NFL scouts love him,” Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said. “I think someone just said walking in here there are going to be 22 NFL teams here for the game, including some general managers. So that speaks volumes to these two quarterbacks.”
I don’t believed Matt would be a good fit for the Dolphins!
Ole Miss’ Matt Corral and Liberty’s Malik Willis, both in line to be the first quarterback selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Corral has dazzled this season. He’s accounted for 25 touchdowns, 15 passing and 10 rushing, with just two interceptions while averaging 340 yards of total offense per game. His performance has rocketed him up draft boards, bringing him from a projected Day 2 pick in the summer to a strong first-round contender in November.
Big college Game For the Dolphins this weekend
I’ve been really high on QB Malik Willis, there are many QB’s that have a good season or some games But Willis has been consistent, having one of the worst offensive lines in the league Malik is steady breaking records and winning games.
Projected draft 15 RANK MALIK WILLIS, QB, LIBERTY Matt Corral the later 1st round.
The No. 15 Rebels (6-2) and Flames (7-2) battle Saturday (11 a.m., SEC Network) as Ole Miss looks to bounce back from a loss and Liberty aims to beat its first Power 5 opponent.
We must stop with the one QB, he gets hurt, don’t pan out etc. Who does that? Four too Five years is too long for any QB, injury, traded?
Hello Admin & FinFans
The Fans cannot managed Stephen Ross Team when he surround’s himself with Football Managers and advisers. We fans can definitely express our dislike of enjoyment of watching the same old Dolphins teams that will give you a rare glance of the thrilled of victory but mostly the agony of defeat. Stated back in the day by Saturday Wide World of Sports TV. End of season Trade’s must happed for draft capital.
Where do we start to fix this problem
We have some good players but this new rebuild will take at least 5 years and by then many of the present players will not be playing any more
So trade them mow before the 4 pm deadline
Bur under no circumstance should we have Grier in charge of our next draft
That man has to go Too many boneheaded decisions
Whoever replaces him has to draft without Ross telling him who to draft
So he has to be an experienced Football person not another yes man
I am also not sure Flores is the right man to coach our team
Way too many mistakes in play calling and use of personnel plus he stinks at selecting coaches under him
Without change at the top we will continue to be in the bottom 10 teams for a very very long time
We have to start by drafting the right players not 3 first round picks that are busts (Phillips, Noah, Jackson)
That will not happen under Grier . He had his chance and blew it horrendously. He has shown us he is not the right person for that job.
Also he is not signing the right free agents. Our scouts stink. They are Grier men.
Should hire Peyton Manning as the new GM or someone smart like him who knows Football and players
We need a complete overhaul
More than half our current players need to be replaced starting with offensive line, running backs, linebackers, corners, Defensive ends, and 80% of our receivers
I am still withholding judgement on Tua till after we have a decent offensive line to give him time to throw
Again just my opinion
I suppose the central theme in this article is Grier must go but isn’t Grier just a symbol of the way Ross manages this team. He creates overpaid pawns – stooges if you will – that are yes men when required. Grier’s only true screw ups were passing on Lamar Jackson, letting last year’s defense go elsewhere and failing to sign Gesicki. Flores is to blame for bone headed play calling and who he puts on the field.
Ross needs to sell the team or take it public. Ross needs to follow Kraft’s model. Hire good people, watch the budget, and let your subordinates do their thing!
Van Hamlin, why is it you continue to blame the owner Ross.I do believe Ross is letting his subordinates “do their thing”.As far as follow Kraft’s model, he believed he was hiring good people when he hired Grier as the GM, like most of us thought “after the year we had last year”.When Grier hired Flores as the HC everyone thought that was also a good move “after the year we had last year”. Ross used his own money to renovate the stadium so the city of Miami could get another Super Bowl. Now I’m not saying all is great and there hasn’t been mistakes but he grew up in Miami and is a fan like the rest of us and he wants the dolphins to win another championship like the rest of us.If things don’t turn around in a hurry this year I think he will do what most of us believe needs to be done and fire Grier. Dude I know you’re a fan and I feel your pain but I think Ross isn’t the one who’s to blame for this dumpster fire we have going on. To me, the constant turnover of our assistant coaches is one of the main problems. We have a 1st year OL coach, coaching 1st and 2nd year players on the line, two OC’s leading up the offense and on and on. This all falls on Flores. Anyway GO FINS!!!
Randy, Ross can prove he is the right owner by firing Grier and hiring a football guy and keeping his hands off… I’d like to believe Ross has kept his hands off, but the move to get Watson feels off. A move like this seems to me as if he’s trying to keep Grier… a move like this would pin any GM into a course and limit his moves. It could also be a nice piece to build around… but, with this depleted roster, adding depleted blue chip picks as well would be tough on any GM. I don’t know… Ross can prove he is a good guy this offseason… just not sure he will. Was more positive till this Watson deal.
