Phins Get The Job Done

week1postweb

The Dolphins came away with their first victory of the season on the road. It certainly was not a pretty game, but both the offense and the defense were able to close out this game in the fourth quarter. It was a gritty performance, spearheaded from the feisty Jarvis Landry, but if Miami wants to continue to keep pace in the ultra competitive AFC East they will need to get better…and fast!

Jarvis Landry was an absolute beast, and on one play where three Washington Redskin defenders were trying to strip the ball from him, he was able to keep fighting and even move the pile for a first down. Then with just over 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter Landry took a punt to the house for a 69 yards touchdown and Miami’s first lead of the game, which they made sure they did not squander.

What was very disturbing was that Miami once again played a horrible first quarter. On defense they luckily only gave up 3 points, but they could not get off the field. Washington was able to have their way with Miami on the ground, and Cousins was able to connect on third and longs. On offense they went three and out to start the game and could not get any momentum moving the ball, until they fell behind 10 points with less than 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. For some reason, as soon as Miami went down 0-10, the players and coaching staff woke up, and Tannehill quickly led the offense down the field for an 80 yard touchdown drive in 9 plays and 1:22.

In the second half the Dolphins got some help from the Redskins, who mentally fell apart and where committing penalties almost on every play. As much as Miami Dolphins news fans do not like Philbin, it was clear that the Dolphins were much more disciplined then Redskins, which directly stems from coaching.

The Dolphins won the turnover battle, but were out sacked 3-1, and one of those sacks caused Tannehill to cough up the ball, which was the ‘Phins lone turnover. It was a sloppy start for the Miami, but most football gambling fans would agree that the team showed a lot of heart coming back from a 10-0 deficit late in the first half.

On a side note it will be worthy keep an eye on Miami’s two key players that were injured in the game: Brandon Albert and Dion Sims. It was good to see them actually get up on their own power, but those are two important players to this team, and the ‘Phins are definitely better with these two players in the lineup.

Next up are the Jacksonville Jaguars, which again is a team that on paper we should beat, but it is not going to be a walk in the park, especially on the road. What were the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans thoughts and reactions on this first game?

I admit that I was very disappointed with the way the team looked on Sunday particularly in the first half. However, after having a couple days to digest things, I can see that things are not as bad as many out there are saying. The second half was more like what we should see from here on out. Next week at Jax will tell us if its the same old dolphins or the improved dolphins. Phins fan forever.

Yes I agree I was disappointed as well with the beginning of the game, but the phins showed some fight led by Landry and hopefully this spark will carry over into the Jaguars game

I saw very poor play from our offensive line
They were certainly not opening any holes for miller
The sack where Tannehill fumbled was caused by the player opposite Dallas Thomas
He just bull rushed him and then tossed him to the side
If this is the improvement we were told about then we are in for another 500 year at best
I knew we would come to regret not signing Mathis
I blame Philbin who told the front office that he was happy with Thomas development
And to top it off who is behind him if he gets hurt ? A nobody that probably cannot even make a 53 man roster on another team
Our a hikes heel will be the offensive line
The defense will adjust – we do have good athletes there, but we need a strong middle linebacker that can stop the run
My hopes have all but vanished
Specialally after the impressive wins by the other AFC East teams
Still hoping this was just a slow start and that we recover and start playing better
Let s see how we do against a top rated team
We barely beat the third worst team in the NFL
We have to correct a lot of problems
Left corner play was not stellar
I bet our opposing teams teams so that too
Let’s hope hope our offense gets to high gear once Parker returns

Ralph “The sack where Tannehill fumbled was caused by the player opposite Dallas Thomas
He just bull rushed him and then tossed him to the side”

That’s Jamil’s weakness…strength. He was bullied all day. He is light and weak. Speed, brains and character is how he makes it. In my opinion he needs marination in NFL strength program for a yr or two. Running right inside will not happen unless something dramatic happens with him.

p.s. was Suh in the game????

  • tbone188

I am pissed too but I hope they will improve. The coaches need help– 1st and goal Landry ripping up the field and OC trys throwing and making TanneHill RUN FOR THE TD????!!!! WTF!!! I think we escaped DC with the ugliest win of the day, It was mostly play calling that did us in. C’mon coach Philbin talk to your OC and DC you have to do a better job.

  • Phinfreak

Look all you koolaid drunken fans, the fact is this was the lowly Skins that gashed Suh and this so-called vaunted defense.

Miami can’t run the ball and they sure as hell cant stop the run.

The OL still sucks and as soon as Tanny feels pressure he gets happy feet and coughs up the ball.

Nothing has changed. Philbin sucks and this team lacks a strong leader and n the sideline.

I’m sick of watching his pathetic golf clap on the sidelines.

    .500 here we come …again.

Freak, Did they win? This is the NFL, and any time you can win on the road (especially season openers), regardless how, any, ANY team would take a W against anyone. Did you watch the game??? Or did you just watch the first half??? Different ball game in the second half, they stopped the run, and yes they started to run the ball themselves.
By the way, they did not slash Suh,, don’t you mean CUT Suh (ridiculous, play after play), thats all they did because they couldn’t handle him man up or even double up. Can’t wait until that chop block becomes illegal (few years tops). Did you notice the personal adjustment they made at half? Sure you didnt, shut them down in second half, both run/pass and started to get into their own groove. Outscored them 17-0 after a 10-0 deficit, and easily could have been 24/31-0.
O-Line is not as bad as you claim. W/exception of Thomas. We have a real 4th round steal in Douglas, so the line is 4/5 set for several years (health permitting).
Freak, no NFL team is as bad as experts claim and no team is as good as experts claim (ie; 49ers, ie: Colts). Washington was top 12 in both run offense and run defense last year, not a fluke. Would we have liked a 31-10 win, sure, but Miami faced several adverse moments where previous Miami teams would have found a way to give it away. This team knows it can play better on both sides, however; when you can win a NFL game when you are not at your best, that only builds character/chemistry as a team.
1 game down, 1 win in the book, 1 road game down, 1 road win in the book. 7 road games left, can improve to 2-0 this Sunday both overall, and road record.
Freak, watch this Sundays game and figure out a way to cut them up. Sure you will, even if they start 2-0 overall, and 2-0 on the road!!!
Go Fins, 1-0, work for 2-0!!!

      • Jimmy Bourbon

Well said Dunner, a win is a win. Sure it could have been prettier but a win on the road is huge no matter who you face. What impressed me was that the team never gave up and when they finally took the lead, the defense stood strong and created a turnover, and the offense then was able to churn out the clock and first downs to close out the game

        • Jimmy Bourbon

Being able to overcome adversity and a slow start on the road and come from behind and, close out the game is a good sign of maturity

    • Jimmy Bourbon

The kool-aid drunken fans are 1-0. No one is asking you to watch the games freak. Why dont you do us all a favor, and go back to your jets and pats blogs. Freak your probably the type of guy that complains while your getting falacio
