Will McDaniel Go 4 for 4 with Weaver?
Weaver splitting for the Saints would leave a gaping hole in this team
The Miami Dolphins have as much consistency at defensive coordinator as a drunk, dipped in grease, sprinting down icy steps backwards. Unfortunately, the Phins might find themselves out of another defensive coordinator should the New Orleans Saints decide on Anthony Weaver as next head coach. If this ends up the case, that would be a 4-year streak of new DCs for head coach Mike McDaniel!
Well, at least we are consistent in something.

Weaver showed enough to hate to see him leave
I didn’t think Weaver would get the call to be a head coach so soon, but it seems to be shaking out just right for Weaver… and all wrong for the Dolphins in typical Miami fashion.
I thought Aaron Glenn would get the Saints job, but the New York Jets are meeting with Glenn and have said they ‘won’t let him out of the building without being their head coach’.
If Weaver goes and you add in the huge loss of Calais Campbell on the field and in the locker room, the Dolphins theme song in 2025 will be ‘Party Like it’s 1999’. Let’s pray the Jets screw this up as the Jest are masters at doing. This is truly an epic battle of bad luck between two snake bitten teams. You can bet with the best pay per heads that I’m rooting like heck for the Jets to beat us for biggest loser!
The loss of Vic Fangio was big, and Weaver did a masterful job in every way. The Dolphins defense had some bad moments, but they were the best part of the 2024 team. Weaver brought player experience, charisma, and authority. While I don’t know how much ‘control’ he brought because I’m not privy to all the details, I felt far more coach vibe from him than Mcdaniel. His mere physical presence alone set a far different tone among the players for sure compared to the Woody Allen clone that McDaniel is.
I’m not knocking Mcdaniel for his looks, but let’s be real, whose presence is more likely to check a player feeling his oats? Weaver or McDaniel?

Clearly this team was dysfunctional even with Weaver, so I’m not saying he’s Tom Coughlin, but can you imagine what it would be like without both Weaver and Campbell this past season? We might not have to imagine and if Weaver goes how much faith from the players goes with him? The defensive coordinator pool is shrinking fast and with Weaver in the second round of interviews, I’m getting bad feeling McDaniel is going to have to break in a new DC and likely a new system too.
What mess it will be if Weaver leaves. Of course, maybe I’m worrying for nothing? It won’t be long until we find out the punch line! Let’s hope the laugh isn’t on us… again. Go Phins!!!
