Campbell Seals Last Crack In Coyle Fire
Now that Coyle has been tossed out on his can along with Philbin, where does coach Campbell and the Dolphins stand, for better or worse? Please stop laughing – of course it’s better, but it is said there are always two cheeks to every rear-end and another side to every story – is there one here?
It was just last season many were saying if we could get an offense to match Coyle’s defense, then we would be a “good team”. What happened over the course of one season? In short, Coyle hadn’t changed, but his players’ attitudes had. Last season, Miami Defensive players overcame scheme issues with raw will and hard play, but Heart wasn’t enough to overcome coaching failure. Odrick’s outburst displayed just the tip of the iceberg. Discontent with Coyle and Philbin had been brewing for some time, and from early on in week 1, it seemed the defensive unit had had enough.
So what’s the other side of this story? Well, really there isn’t much that even the best pay per head reviews in the world would put a bet on. I tried to find a rationale of the “other side”, but not only was the firing a must, it offers the Dolphins from a team standpoint a better chance to notch a “W” week 6. Look, both Philbin and Coyle aren’t bad guys, and they were hard-working professionals who outworked 95% of us, however, they had severe shortcomings that ultimately doomed them. Philbin for all his attention to detail and ability to organize was hamstrung by his social ineptitude and being devoid of charisma. Coyle on the other hand just didn’t have the X’s and O’s acumen to make his player work within his system and called games like a…. well, tentatively. The only downside would be if Campbell and Anarumo are as inept at X’s and O’s as Philbin was a social idiot.

Campbell and Anarumo are taking over, and today will be the start of the new staff as a whole. Anarumo is a wild card and a complete unknown except that he is younger and hungrier than Coyle. In Campbell’s case, he has tons of what Philbin lacked…he has an aggressive approach rather than logical and he connects with players rather than repulses them. He will need “Philbin’s talents” once the buzz of “ding—dong the witch is dead” wears off and game time starts. But if Campbell has even half of Philbin’s organization, Miami will be in much better shape. Will it be enough for Campbell to be the coach going forward? Week 6 will be the first step and I am very excited for the start of my 2015 Miami Dolphins season. GO FINS!!!

One DT is almost always lined up in a 3 Technique while the other can be anywhere from a 0-3. It started out that both DT’s would be 1-Gap guys, but after getting gashed up the middle too often, they modified to have more of a nose-tackle type (Brian Price, Roy Miller) and a speed rusher (McCoy). The other gaps remain filled by the OLB’s and occasionally by the Mike. The Defensive Ends are almost always in a 5 or higher.

Hello Jimmy
Can Dolphins take a script out of the Tampa 2 defense?
CB’s in the T2 love to keep everything to the sideline. It benefits the rest of the defense. Ronde Barber is also the most successful blitzing cornerback in the history of the NFL. He has recorded 25 sacks (9.5 more than any other cornerback). He also is one of only 2 players to have 20 sacks and 30 interceptions, the other is Rodney Harrison. Ronde Barber is a future Hall of Famer and owes much credit to a defense that highlights his strengths and a DC who was aggressive enough to blitz him.
Let’s all be of change and embrace the challenge of the new coaching staff, and remember no one has a greater investment or cares more than OUR CEO ROSS!!!! Thanks for making the change we needed to keep moving forward with the DOLPHINS…
Yeah. I’m liking this Campbell guy so far. His style has hard-nosed football written all over it.
My bet is we’ll see big differences vs Titans.
On D my bet is we’re going after Mariotta and on offense we’re going to run power and add deep vertical passes.
I’m not expecting a win here but I do expect a fist fight – finally.
My big question mark is what are they going to do at RG Jamil can’t cut it. Maybe I’m wrong but I havent seen anything in his play to prove otherwise in regards to RB.
Yeah brother, he did nothing creative…either too dumb or too scared. Anyone can say line up and beat your man….glad he is gone!!!
Excited to see what different approach there is on both sides of the ball.
Last thing I want to see is that same old 40 D w/out any gap filling/blitzing LBers, at least a threat one or two or even three coming, or actually coming. Lets see some imagination, and attack/attack/attack, aggressive mentality from the start. Should we get beat down field or still can’t stop the run, so be it.
I would much rather loss while being aggressive, opposed to Coyle’s boring laid back PREDICTABLE style.
Let’s hope players respond and we play better
I liked the idea of bringing sotole back – I hope front office realizes our shortcomings and signs him
