Combine Hints at Phins O-Line Moves!
Phins direction seems dialed in based on combine & history
The NFL combine for the offensive linemen is compete and the Miami Dolphins direction to sure up their poor offensive blocking unit looks clearer. The Dolphins must bolster this offensive line, but Chris Grier talked about the Free Agency period and the draft to get the blocking right. So, where will the fire the ammo and how much in each?
So, let’s examine the offensive line men from the combine that the Dolphins have their eyes on and see what makes sense for the road ahead.
Some GOOD O-line WILL be available at #13
Will Campbell, Kelvin Banks Jr., and Armand Membou are now the consensus Top 3 offensive linemen in the 2025 NFL Draft. This doesn’t mean they will be the best, but they have the best chance with the best pay per head to be the first three taken off the board.
All three had excellent combine performances, but Membou clearly had the best running a 4.91 forty with 1.74 split, a 34” vertical jump and 9’7” broad jump at 332lbs! This is special stuff, and he’s put together a good college career along with these number. Some view Membou as a tackle and other see him as a guard. At 6’4” inches he’s tad undersized and has some issues against long edge defenders, which the NFL has a ton of.
This isn’t to say he can’t play tackle, but he’ll surely make an impact at either guard or tackle… and maybe both.
Can you say ‘YUM’! As a Dolphins fan this is music to my ears.
Will Campbell & Banks Jr. Round out the Top three
Where Membou seems a sure thing at guard at the very least, Banks and Campbell are less sure things if they can’t nail down tackle. Campbell is a nasty, heavy-handed tackle that thrives in the run game and has faced top tier talent but struggles at times with stunts and to get to landmarks in his lateral movement. This could force him inside if he can’t handle the speed and his somewhat T-Rex arms hurt his game. Banks also is viewed by some as a guard instead of a tackle, but he has more prototypical arm length and is the better mover. But Banks could find himself a tweener, never having played guard before, and not having the cement to move power players inside even more exasperated than at tackle.
All three would be sizable upgrades for the Dolphins somewhere on this offensive line. At the very least these three players could push a bunch of talent to the Dolphins at #13 giving them a ton of options to make the right pick.
The question is what will Grier do in Free Agency?
Will he look to fill the guard spots with steady veterans? If he does and he drafts one of these three, then what will be done about Austin Jackson, who is expensive and can’t play guard.
Will Grier break is long standing nature and draft a player who might end of a guard 13th Overall with a plenty of defensive players on the board and plenty needed on this roster? This is popcorn eating stuff that no one has the answer too, but all Phins fans will be riveted to see how it plays out!
Will Grier get that pick right? I don’t know. At least it’s looking like the table might just be set for Grier to have the best chance to do it whether it’s on offense or defense! Go Phins!!!
