Grier MUST Ace the 2025 Draft!
Phins Free Agency demands a great draft class for 2025 success!
The Phins came into this offseason over the cap, but after some cuts, restructured deals, and a boost from the league-wide cap increase, they had over $20 million to spend. The Miami Dolphins used that cap space wisely plugging some roster holes in a cap conscious way. There weren’t any ‘blockbuster moves’ made, but hopefully Miami unearths a few hidden gems like last year’s Free Agency.
However, Grier’s penchant for signing injured players continues with players like James Daniels and Ifeatu Melifonwu.
Hopefully these pan out.
Unfortunately, Miami hasn’t had much luck over the years with these types of signings.
All eyes on the 2025 Draft
Most of the best players are scooped up during the first week of free agency, so the next few weeks of free agency isn’t really going to add much star power. This will force Miami to concentrate on nailing the draft, where they have 10 draft picks–more if they trade back.
Most of the pay per head services will agree that the best chances for Miami to pick up some impact starters and players in this upcoming draft will be with their first 5 picks. Miami has the 13th overall pick in the first round and needs to absolutely nail this pick, which could mean trading back for more ammo. Then they have the 48th overall pick which is in the 2nd round, the 98th overall pick which is in the third round, and then the 116th and 134th overall pick which are both in the fourth round.
Miami must come away with a starter and position of need on their first pick. It seems like the secondary or offensive line would be a good position to lock in with our first pick. Some names to keep an eye on are Will Campbell OT, Kelvin Banks OT/G, Tyler Booker G, Malaki Starks S, and Will Johnson CB.
The best franchises find talent in the mid-rounds
With their 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks, Miami still should focus on adding to the offensive line, secondary, and defensive line. For decades we have been screaming for the Dolphins to build from the inside out and draft players that play in the trenches. The grunt work is done at those positions, and if you can own the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, you immediately put your team at an advantage. When the trenches are controlled, the skill positions make big plays and score points.
While, I don’t think Grier has it in him, maybe Grier finally tries something different because using the same philosophy of past drafts hasn’t been a winner.
Lastly, I do believe it would be wise to use one of these top 5 picks, to draft a QB.
Sure, this doesn’t fit the idea of an immediate starter, but QB is by far the most important position. Even with the addition of Zach Wilson, Miami should be looking for a young quality QB that can truly make a difference if Tua gets hurt. The three QB’s that stand out the most in this upcoming draft that are projected to be taken anywhere from the 2nd to 4th round, that Miami should consider are Jaxson Dart, Quinn Ewers, and Dilon Gabriel. I hope we roll the dice on one of these guys.
In the end, Grier is in charge, not me or you, so let’s see how he plays this critical draft!
What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans thoughts of what Miami should be focusing on for this upcoming draft?
