Albert Breer: ‘Phins Front Office Already Set’?!
Dolphins moved off Grier with the intentions of setting up a new power structure
A recent interview by ESPN analyst Albert Breer offered an interesting perspective on the Miami Dolphins direction to set up a new power structure in the wake of Chris Grier’s departure. According to Breer, Phins fans should stay focused on Brandon Shore and Tom Garfinkel as power brokers in the new Miami power structure to work in conjunction with whoever is the next General Manager.
Given how Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has shown deep loyalties to those he likes and a longstanding belief in a separation of powers, adding Shore and Garfinkel into the mix with the next GM lines up perfectly.
But is this the best approach and will it turn the franchise around or cause it to continually languish in mediocrity?
Breer thinks the power structure might be in place
So, we’ve seen a split of authority before with Dawn Aponte and Jeff Ireland and Mike Tannenbaum and Chris Grier, so this is nothing new. Although, this would move it from a two-way split to a three-way split between Shore, Garfinkel, and the next GM. In a sense, Gase had control over elements of the roster, but it created divisions of opinion with the three that created dysfunction.
You can bet with the best pay per head that the concerning part is none of the above brought winning results.
Below is a portion of Breer’s take:
Garfinkel and Shore appear locks of some sort
Garfinkel led the F1 racetrack at Hard Rock stadium and that turned into a goldmine. Clearly, Garfinkel has tons of leverage in the eyes of Ross because the racetrack puts the franchise in the black no matter what type of team they are. Brandon Shore also cut the purse strings of Grier this offseason, so he certainly has the inside track.
This is what the power structure will look like if this plays out:

Now there are teams with a similar power structure that have had great success, so it’s not about a flawed philosophy.
The problem with this move, if it does turn out to be the plan, is can these three men produce quality results and maintain a good relationship to avoid dysfunctionality, which the Dolphins have been All Pro at?
I don’t know if they can, or this is the plan, or who the GM will be if it is.
So, like everything Dolphins, I’ll cross my fingers and hope for the best… and expect less than that!
Go Phins!!!
