Trench Warfare Victory Or Bust
The Dolphins have a pivotal game this upcoming Sunday against the Bills in Buffalo, and they need to stay focused on playing to their strengths from their last two victories. The Dolphins need to be physical against the Bills, especially in the trenches.
The Dolphins need to continue to commit to the run game. The Bills are one of the better teams in the league against the run, ranking 9th best in terms of yards allowed per game on the ground, with 91.9 yards. The Dolphins need to get Lamar Miller involved in the running game early and often, even if the running game does not produce the results that they are looking for right away. Miami likes to forget about the run game, especially when they do not have success with it early in the game, however this is a mistake, and Miami must show more patience with the running game.
Buffalo has played much better against the run, and that is evident from their pass defense ranking of 23rd best in the league with them allowing 255.4 yards per game. This might be enticing to Bill Lazor to throw the ball, however the Dolphins have had their most offensive success when they commit to the running game. The Dolphins offensive lineman are better suited to run block then to pass block, and the offensive game plan needs to take this in consideration. If the Dolphins can generate some plays on the ground, then this will open up even more room through the air, when it is optimal to pass.
Another point that will rest heavily on coach Campbell’s plate is personnel. With RT James out, whoever fills his shoe will have big shoes to fill as well as the burden of propelling offensive success. Mario Williams usually works against the RT, so whoever mans that spot better play in high gear, even with the TE help that will surely support the right side. Also, the lack of a fullback / H-back to dig out Lb’s has forced Miami to run from three wides and especially in short yardage situations this has proven to be a failure. We need “I” and “Off-Set” in the formation rotation to truly be running team.
On defense the Dolphins must control the line of scrimmage, because the Dolphins are facing a Bills team that is ranked 11th best running the ball, with a 123.9 yards per game average on the ground, and all football betting software fans know that Rex Ryan loves to run the ball as much as he can. Suh and the rest of the defensive lineman must limit the running lanes for the Bills and must be aggressive at the point of attack. If the Dolphins can not stop or at least limit the running attack of the Bills, then they are going to be in for a very long day on defense, because the Bills have a lot of talent on offense, and they can mix it up very well with the pass and the run, especially when the run is working well for them.
This is basically a playoff game for Miami, because they can not afford to lose a second time to the Bills, or add another loss to their record, and another lose to their AFC conference record. The Dolphins are coming off a humbling defeat to the Patriots, and it will be very interesting to see how Dan Campbell has this team playing after enduring his first loss as a head coach in the league. They are outgunned due to injuries, but that is life in NFL football and if coach Campbell want to be a championship caliber coach it’s a hurdle he’ll need to make sooner or later. Does the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans think that the Dolphins can rebound against the Bills, and get back on the winning track?

I dont think the Fins have the guns to line up in a power formation and run against this Bills front 7. The only way we break a run here and there is via deception i.e. 4 wide, 5 wide + QB draws, lots of motion and shifts.
Rex Ryan has got Tannys ass in his hands and he knows it. Rexy also knows Fox cant block Mario Williams. Rex is holding the cards on D and he will dictate to the Fins.
Campbell better come up with schemes and matchups to offset Bills superior front 7 or we’re gonna get pounded again.
As for Tanny, last Thursdays game was it for me. Im no longer expecting him to be the guy, nor the franchise QB. He is a mental midget, this guy caves in against pressure and vs good D’s.
Good teams, teams that make the playoffs, all rely on superior consistent QB play, we dont have that.
Only thing with Tanny…before he get his final judgement is that he can call audibles. Even Marino struggled when Jimmy took audibles from him. Audibles are where a QB gets to make his mark. I’m with you in my disappointment in Tanny, but I’d like to see him with that control before judgement. And yes Tanny needs QB action and movement in order to be at his best. I still dont understand why they turn him into a statue when he does some great things when movement is added! Cards are stacked in his favor, but the Jags beat them so they are not a juggernaut. It will take a great week and game of coaching for this win.
1 thing superior great QB’s have is a excellent offensive line. do the Dolphins have that NO you can’t expect Tannerhill to be that QB when he spends more time on the grass because of sacks. or he has to get rid of the ball fast.where and what do you think those super QB’s would be with our OL?? same place Tanny is. so don’t blame our QB it starts up front with the OL 1st. as does with every team Bill Parcel knew that.all his teams had a very good or great OL. that’s why I was hoping in the 1st & 2nd round of the draft. the Dolphins would had drafter OL like 2 tough guards the inside of the OL is very important too. this year they better draft guards in the early rounds. they had a chance to sign to pro bowl guards in free agency. they were waived by their teams and didn’t do it. wonder how the line would of looked with them.
Randy, I agree. You can’t judge RT based on the overall OL play he has had since being a pro. When the Dolphins do well on the ground, RT has played quite well. I believe he has the tools, just not all the weapons around him needed for success. Yes, most certainly, the OL was neglected in the off-season, and I knew it would come back to haunt this team during the regular season. We could have signed Mathis, but Philbin did not want him. Too old, too expensive. Rumor had it that RT even went to the front office and met with Hickey about the possibility of signing Mathis. For me the season was lost the minute Ross decided to bring back Philbin!!! I like Campbell and what he has done, I just don’t think he has the men up front on the OL to make a difference. Sunday will tell. I think if the team plays with the emotion and attitude they played with against the Texans and Titan, a win is possible. Lazor by the way is garbage! If Campbell could have, he would have gotten rid of him too! Instead they hired a consultant (baby sitter) to help him out.
