Not Pretty; But Mission Accomplished

The Miami Dolphins played a sloppy football game up in Philadelphia by committing  8 penalties for 84 yards, BUT in the end, they found a way to score 17 unanswered points and beat the Eagles. It was a very gritty performance by the team to hang in there and find a way to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard in the last minutes of the game.

The Defense had a very rough first quarter, giving up 16 points and letting Sam Bradford and the Eagles race up and down the field against them. However, the coaches and players made some solid adjustments and were able to hold the Eagles to only 3 points in the final three quarters of the game. The Defense was led by Ndamukong Suh and Reshad Jones. Most football gambling fans would say that Suh played his best game in a Dolphin uniform, spending most of the day in the Eagles backfield. He had 8 tackles in the game with 3 of those tackles for a loss and 1 sack. Jones continued to play like a pro bowler (and possibly moved closer into all time great status) by adding another sack and clutch red-zone interception late in the game.

On offense the Dolphins continued to throw the ball more than run, but it was not as heavily lopsided as it was in the beginning of the season (They passed the ball 58% of the time). The Dolphins playmakers on offense continued to make plays, led by Landry, Matthews and Miller. Those three guys have been the core of the Dolphins offensive repertoire and two of the three added a touchdown each (Landry, and Miller), and Matthews had another big day in terms of YAC.

Tannehill played OK, nothing spectacular, but sometimes that is all we need from him. He did have 2 touchdown passes, with one being an extremely lucky tip ball that Landry miraculously was able to bring down for the Touchdown reception. The best part of Tannehill’s game was that he did not cough up the ball, which is something that he has been prone to do this season.

With this victory, the Dolphins now have a 4-5 record. What is truly amazing when you look deeper at this record, is that the Dolphins are 0-4 in the AFC East, and they are 4-1 against the rest of the league. Is the Dolphins division really that much better than the rest of the league? Most fans would say that unfortunately for the Dolphins, they are in a division where the teams in their division match up extremely well against them.

It’s quite possible the Dolphins could tease us fans for the remainder of the season. What I mean is, they’ll  give us hope by winning, but just not enough to overcome  early season mistakes, and not make the final playoff spot. Unfortunately with their terrible AFC division record, they are not going to have a lot of wiggle room in terms of tie breakers. It will take an amazing set if circumstances to earn a playoff berth – but as fan ours end of the bargain is to believe with hope  beyond hope. What does the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans think about the phins latest performance and their overall future for this season? Go Fins!!!

Lets face it and not put lipstick on this pig. Fins are not a good team, plain and simple.

A win is a win and we’ll take it any way we can but as a matter of consistency and competing in our division we have to build a roster of players that match up against NE, Buffalo, and Yets.

Right now we just dont … ergo 0-4 in AFC E

That game was as physical a game that I have seen the Dolphins play in years. If they can continue that kind of play the rest of the year, they should be in every game for the remainder. The “D” line just beat up the Eagles “O” line and punished the Eagles’ QBs. Nice to see an adjustment made after the slow start, because nobody accounted the for TE early, yet adjusted and tightened up.

Offensively I feel there is still to much horizontal passing going on, and not enough vertical passes. There were a few key moments where the quick screen (horizontal passes) worked for a few yards to move the chains. I guess that may be Tanny’s strengths, because of his inability to audible or his lack of a pocket presence are not. I like to see them run the ball, 58% pass and 42% run is not to bad, much better than the 70/30 pass/run ratio prior to Campbell. We run the ball pretty good against most teams, just need to plug away at that. Great to see Ajayi contributing, he runs and plays physical (like the “D” did Sunday), and I seen that rub off on Miller at times Sunday as well.

If this team can some how win the next 2 games (Cowboys/Jets), they can position themselves up real nicely for the final 5 games with 4 of those 5 games @ home. But it all starts with the Cowboys, a team that will be rejuvenated because of Romo’s return. Contain Dez and contain the Boys, hope that Grimes feels better!!!

pretty much on board with everything…vertical might be an issue with Tanny’s skill set- although he has been doing a FAR better job at it this year than previous. Also, why did we drop Ayaji to near zero carries in the second half?
