Do We Gamble On Campbell?

I am a BIG fan of Dan Campbell. I love his passion and believe that he knows how to motivate his players and can get them to play hard for him, something that Joe Philbin was incapable of doing…something that all the great coaches have. However, so far, he has not proven the skill to out scheme another coach and make the adjustments needed to change a game around at this point in his career. He is a very young coach, thrust into the role prematurely, with 6 games on his resume, so naturally a huge learning curve is  expected. The question is, are Miami Dolphins news fans looking to be a guinea pig for a few years to see if he can turn into a great coach, or do we want someone with experience and a proven track record that can hopefully change this team into a winner over night?

With that being said, we have tried everything over the last 20 years since Don Shula has retired, and they have yet to find any coach, young, experienced, collegiate championship material, or even former Super Bowl head coach winner, to build this team into a consistent, year in and year out, playoff team. So to say that Campbell is not the answer is not really fair, because it is not like an experienced coach is going to guarantee us a spot in the playoffs. Whatever Ross will choose will be a gamble, so what do we gamble on?

Campbell will be given the chance to finish out this season, so it will be very interesting to see how he finishes it. At the moment most football gambling fans would agree that he, and the rest of the team are still making the same mistakes. What is truly confusing is that Miami continues to baffle football gambling fans on their offensive play calling. Maybe the deeper problem is that Bill Lazor is still forcing the pass and calling offensive plays that make the offensive appear lost? The Dolphins have some very skillful players on offense, however they are having an extremely hard time getting into a rhythm on offense, and almost appear like they are guessing out there. This could go either way in regards to Campbell. He might be hamstrung with a coordinator and scheme he dislikes and due to the situation is unable to change it, or it could be that he simply lacks the acumen, whether due to knowledge or will, to change it.

But here is the mystery, one that is Campbell’s fault. When Miami commits to the running game they play better and usually win, so why do they continue to abandon the running game any time that they get even slightly behind, even if it is early in the game? They key for Campbell, and the Dolphins is to play to their strengths and one of those strengths is running the ball, but it only works if they do it for the entire game. This part takes patience and mental toughness to stay the course and must be driven by the head coach.

Unfortunately, the Dolphins pissed away a great opportunity to get back to .500, luckily the rest of the AFC is playing just as bad. Ridiculous as it sounds, the Dolphins are still only a game back in the wild card race. They would still need to go pretty much 5-1 to make the playoffs, but they do still have a chance. But even if this miracle transpires, they would all but squeak into the playoffs and be the red headed step child. But, in the end an extra Dolphins game is and extra Dolphins game and it would be one more week of Dolphins football.

And get some hogs upfront while at it.

Why not a double dose of Miller and Ajay at the same time offensivelly?

    We are 4 W – 6 L

Play Matt Moore the rest of the season. Play Matt Moore the rest of the season. The problem with the Dolphins is Identifying the problem? Maybe the Dolphins cannot handle the Truth?
    Cant We handle the Truth!

The Dolphins most likely will finished at best winning 3 more games leaving them with 7 wins for the season.
On an honest Note: The Mistates and same old excuses I dont see the Dolphins winning anymore games this season.

Lastly to us Dolphins Fans why is that the Patriots Coaches can coach 1st, 2nd and 3rd string players that show up in the games without making the excuses that the Dolphins players and coaches been given us the last decade??

The last time this team has been a real threat was the season that Ricky Williams was carrying the ball for the Dolphins after leaving the Saints.

If we keep Campbell, you are looking for about 2-3 years of on the job training before he matures into a viable NFL HC. Besides, he might keep Lazor and several other coaches who need to go. I say, bring in a proven, quality HC who has been to the playoffs. Everything is a gamble to some degree, it’s just how much. Sean Payton, Chuck Pagano, Mike Smith, all have had solid winning records and even championships. I believe in limiting risk, and the risk is less with someone like these guys. Ross expected a winner this year. Well, he should not have brought back Philbin. I like Campbell’s passion and toughness, but Lazor is still doing the same things under Campbell that he did under Philbin. He is a west-coast offensive guy who believes points need to come off the passing game. Problem is, the OL won’t cooperate and Campbell won’t put his foot down and demand a certain amount of running plays per game! No Campbell is not the best choice for this team going forward, and most analysts that I watch or listen too agree. Bring in solid veteran HC and start over with a clean slate. The risk is less.

There is no strength-of-this-team. The run game sucks too, it just sucks less than passing game.

I’ve posted here how Lazor is a problem.

Tannehill is not a franchise QB. In fact he is the next incarnation of Chad Henne. Great arm, no brains.

Campbell is not an NFL HC. Get real.
This is the type of thinking that gets us this Miami Dolphins team.

    Can you spell overhaul?

    • Dunner

Every team has it’s strengths and weaknesses. Doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a strength of the league per say. Lazor thinks its the passing game, why can’t Campbell recognize it is the run game.

Freak, when we run we win. No disputing that regardless what you think. Numbers don’t lie.

Dallas Thomas needs to be cut as soon as the season is over (if not sooner), enough of him, sorry! How can this staff move forward w Thomas, he is rated 80th of 81 qualifying guards per PFF. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? May as well go w a young practice squad player, he can’t do any worse. Oh yea, he could be ranked 81st. At least go with Douglas and move on from this player.

The rookie class has been a HUGE disappointment, move on from the Tannenbaum experiment. Can I interview Ross? Seems as though you just need to be told what you want to hear, and that is how to market a football organization, NOT HOW TO IMPROVE ONE!!!

      • phinfreak

Bro…”when we run we win..” uh, you do know this team is 4 and 6 right? That is not a trend worthy of shiota.

This team cant run either. We have no 4-minute offense capability. Teams shut down our run game right off the bat to force Tanny-brain-fart-Henne to throw.

This is why everyone plays press-man vs Fins. Force Tanny to pass and he’ll either get sacked, throw a pic, fumble, or by some miracle actually complete a pass. But its the winning formula against this team.

There is no strength to a 4-6 team dude. Geezus.

        • Dunner

          You don’t get it Freak.

          Just Millers carries per game

          In Wins = 62 rushing attempts = 384 yards = 6.2 yard per carry average = 4 wins (remember just 4 games)

          IN LOSSES = 52 rushing attempts = 181 yards = 3.5 yards per carry = 6 losses (6 games)

To spell this out for you Freak…. In the 4 games we have won Miller has averaged 15 carries per game….. In the 6 games we have lost Miller has averaged 8 carries per game.

THATS RIGHT, 8 f***ing carries per game in losses, and 15 carries per game in wins.

          Passing game

In Wins = 119 passing attempts per game

In Losses = 241 passing attempts per game

Again to spell it out for you Freak, in the wins we have averaged 29 passing attempts per game, in the losses we have averaged 40 passing attempts per game.

Don’t come back and say “well the game was out of hand forcing us to throw”… bulls**t, not one of those games were out of hand, it was the passing that got it out of control. This team can run the ball and yes Freak it is their strength. Everyone/team has a strength and weakness, even you have them…. NUMBERS DON’T LIE!!!

Bring in Sean Payton as the next HC, we know he’s been there before.

  • Dunner

Starts w the owner = we’re all screwed!!!

I hear ya Tbone, but you can have the best Defensive tackle and Safety in the league and not have a better outcome on defense!!!

The strength of this team is running the ball, never lose when Miller has 13+ carries, plus addin g Ajayi to that mix, WOW! Yet we still throw the ball, and throw the ball, and on third down have to throw the ball. Recognize your strengths, I under we have an excellent WR core, when we run we win,,,, pretty simple!!!

  • tbone188

I thought I remember hearing that last year–and the year before–and the year before that. We get to the point in the season that we start saying we need this game to get to the playoffs and loose. Then the next week we need this game to stay at 500 then the next week—well you get the picture. What the hell is the answer???!!! I do believe in Cambell ,but now it’s Lazor’s fault?? I wish someone could figure this out. I get skull cramps thinking about this!!

  • Dunner

If and ONLY IF he replaces both coordinators, Offensive and defensive!!!

I’m sure Ross will try and lure some BIG name……

Word on the street is that Ross has agreed to another London Game. And YES, it will be another home Miami game. And YES, that means their BYE WEEK will again be early.

WAY TO LOOK OUT FOR YOUR TEAM AND DIE HARD LOCAL MIAMI FANS!!!! What the fuck (pardon my French), Ross you are a joke and it sucks that we and the Miami Dolphins are stuck w your stupid SELFISH inept ass!!!

Ross’ priority is to host a Super Bowl, who gives a shit about being in one!!!! F***ing loser, no wonder he can’t get the type of coach he desires here!!!
