On the bright Side Of Things….

Well after a short skip and jump down the road of gloom, I thought it high time for some sunshine. I know this sunshine is but a ray amid a dark horizon, but it is nevertheless a bright spot that MAY help to bring about more green pastures in Miami’s future.

The ray of sunshine I am speaking of is Jordan Phillips. YES, for this season a guard, corner or linebacker would have served the Dolphins quantitatively more, but he was drafted and now here we are.

When the Dolphins drafted Jordan Phillips I spit out my drink, to which my wife scolded me for, and my friend laughed – A DT?! But, so far, even in his limited role, he has produced enough for me to focus on his play and get excited when he enters the line up, and for a franchise that is about to enter a rebuilding mode, this pick might pan out better – especially if he continues to progress as he has.

With 2 sacks, Phillips leads all rookies in sacks, and while 2 sacks isn’t earth shattering, when you consider his limited snaps, it along with his tape and measurable, you see Miami “could” have a very fine 2nd round pick on their roster. Also, if you notice just from the stat line that most of his tackles are solo and that he has two deflected passes. Physically you can’t ask for that much more from a NFL player, and when he give his full effort his effort is felt by the opposing team.

For a man of his size, Phillips has displayed the obvious strength for a man 6’5” 327, but also surprising speed and agility and he has often used all three to harass the QB and stop the run. IF he could match his production with his potential he could be a true force in the NFL – and along side Suh it COULD be a true strength. Now the words often, could, if are highlighted due to his reputation and back issues. He has been productive in his limited role and that could be what he is if his “low energy” tag sticks. So far though he hasn’t played with a low motor and, although the verdict isn’t in, the jury is leaning towards the opinion that he has turned the corner.

So far the 2015 draft class has been less than stellar to say the least, and not even the best bookie software sites in the world like www.AcePerHead.com are betting it turns into a top ten, but if he becomes 80% of what could be and plays alongside Suh we could have our best combo since Bowens and Gardener…and that would be nice.

Go Fins!!!

On a serious note: The Miami Dolphins are 4-6. There are 6 teams with 4wins and lost 6. The Dolphins having 7 games left who can they beat with? Can we say the Dolphins are improving are ready to throw in the towel?
Note Improvement means games won not excuse?

2 Teams 10-0 (Pats and Pathers)
    3 Teams 8-2
    2 Teams 7-3
    1 Team 6-4 (Steelers)
    5 Teams 5-5
    6 Teams 4-6 (Eagles17, Rams 19, Raider 14, bears 18, Redskins 20, Miami 21, Jag 27, Saint 24)
    3 Teams 2-8 ( Tenessee 31 , San Diego 28, Cleaveland 32

Only thing as a qualifier is when you replace the coach mid season with someone who was previously a TE coach it’s hard to accurately say. Simply firing Philbin is addition by subtraction. We will still be hampered by Ross and Tannenbaum, unless Ross finds someone with the football instincts he lacks and lets him run the show. If we had a true power O with the proper personnel and not a dink and dunk personnel and had a coach with balls from jump we would have equaled or exceeded last year in my opinion.

Thats a positive for Jordan Philips. I believed that philips also played fullback in college also?

I agree Tannebaum is a problem
His penchant for making a big splash already hurt us
We did not need to spend that much on Suh
I know he will try to do same shit again
Almost like he has no self confidence in himself and has to garner the attention this way
He did the same for the jets and look at the results
We need impact players in our first 3 picks – players that can start every down
    We don’t need substitutes
    We are not that good
So now I wonder what the hell he will do next draft
This is a guy who is so out of touch with reality that he did not even call Mathis agent during the free agency to try and negotiate a deal (Mathis was a free agent almost for 3 months) and he signed for 2 million with Denver and yet we paid almost one million to get a washed up backup guard instead who we haven’t used
And the worst thing is he knew our 2 starting guards were no good they got rated the 2 worst guards in the league (that includes backups)
Our running backs only see a hole one every 5 times they try to run and our QB continues to get sacked
By contrast Mathis has not allowed any sacks this year in Denver
Tannebaum is just too snobbish too New Yorker and our team is handicapped by his ineptitude and arrogance
Let our very capable GM make the selections you moron
Now all we can look forward to is who do we get in the offseason and who do we cut plus who will we draft
    Damn this is getting upsetting
At least one Ray of Hope as you said Jimmy is that we got rid of 2 bad coaches
I Philbin was a horrible coach and all he wanted in the team are church going non partiers and perfect yes men – no leaders – no high intensity players
I hope that attitude changes and we go for playmakers this time around
PS I wouldn’t mind loosing the remaining of our games to get better draft picks
We need linebackers corner guards tackle fullback and safety
Better get some slots filled in free agency
A very disappointed fan who paid for season tickets believing all the hipe
Damn even flew to London for that game
I want my dolphins to be relevant again is that too much to ask

…no matter what happens, Suh gets paid …we won’t have the cap space to rebuild quickly …in fact, ’16 is going to see some of our best players go elsewhere for more money simply because Miami won’t be able to counter the offers …no amount of wishful thinking is going to change that.

…then consider that Ross’s demonstrated loyalty to his hand-picked FO choices means the new HC is going to be saddled with Tannenbaum and all that implies

…forget attracting any experienced head coach with an interest in protecting his reputation and legacy …whether or not Sean Payton is actually going to be available, why in hell would he?

…and yeah, I remember Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells and all the good their previous coaching record did for the fins …not!

…so it almost dead certain that Ross will have to roll the dice once more and try to attract a hungry 2nd tier coach willing to gamble his career on the chance to be an NFL head coach

…but wait …he already has that in Campbell

…if Campbell has more wins than losses and he finishes the season looking like he has a clue, then Ross would be a damn fool not to keep him …and throw into the mix that Ross has already been there in passing over Bowles in almost the exact same circumstances …we can always hope hes learned from that.

…on the other hand, if Campbell finishes with a losing record, all bets are off

Great points, brother. Ross just doesn’t have “football sense” …although in Suh I disagree. Maybe I’m blind because I am a fan of DT’s and him. I think he is young enough and dominant enough to build around…can we do it with the idiots we have and questions at QB? Not sure. But by year 3 and 4 his cap number dive. Next year is the big hit and we are going into a rebuild anyway. Maybe I’m wrong on him, but a great DT makes a defense and he has kept us in many games just by his play alone. I think we are somewhat jaded because he was used totally wrong for the first few games. But he has single handedly lead the D with Wake gone and him and Rashad on the back end are awesome pieces a good GM could build around. Do we have that…like Hickey and that’s it. As far as Campbell…we could and have done ALOT worse. If he can add even a small increase to his X’sand O’s he’d be better than most of the last decade plus of coaches we have had. I still take Payton over him…probably pie in the sky.

So imagine for a minute that instead of paying Suh all that money, we insert Phillips at that DT position, and invest that money on CB, LBers, OG….hmmm?

The first firing I would do is Tannenbaum. Then I’d call Sean Peyton and beg him to help my franchise turnaround.

But this is Ross we’re talking about here so….

    • phinfreak

      fire Tannenbaum

      • admin

Agree on Tannenbaum. Not Sure if he gave him the city of Miami he’d take the job he’d take the gig…not with the wacked structure we have. Also, he doesn’t bring in the personnel. We’d need someone for that. I agree I’d like Payton over Cammpbell, but we’d still need to find to be GM…Ross seems to love Tannenbaum, soo more than likely we’ll end up with Campbell or some second tier guy. Both would be uncertainties both for good and bad. Not liking the situation very much. At least I like Campbell…Also I’m glad we tanked early I couldn’t stomach Philbin since last year and the Greenbay game and his famous “Queasy” line. We disagree on Suh…DT, DE, CB, QB (RT & Wr less these days) are the toughest positions to find dominating talent and DL makes CB’s better so I’m fine with Suh cause he is the most talented player we ever had at the position. I understand you points on why go with drafts, but then you eventually have to pay for that talent or find more and that doesn’t happen consistently.
