King Tannenbaum
The Dolphins off season purge started by firing General Manager Dennis Hickey and letting the staff become free agents. Dennis Hickey actually had some decent drafts with the team, however, a lot of money was spent to try to make the Dolphins a playoff team, and the result was an utter failure. As a result of the Hickey firing, Mike Tannenbaum is now the undisputed head honcho in town, which means he will be in charge of finding the next head coach and sole proprietor of the Dolphins future. This will end very good or very bad…which kinda’ king will he be?!
Personally, I do not think Hickey did a terrible job, unfortunately the team is not any closer to being a playoff team and someone must be accountable for an uninspiring roster. Too bad Stephen Ross can’t fire himself, because most football gambling fans would agree that Ross does not inspire great hope tht Miami will be a playoff team with him as the owner. And Tannenbaum is Ross’ friend and was being primed for this role since his hiring as a consultant last season, so he is made of Teflon. In the end everyone else was the scapegoat.
The Dolphins are already beginning to do their homework for their next head coach. Retreads Mike Shannahan and Mike Smith were the first interviews. One name that is beginning to gain momentum is Adam Gase the current Offensive Coordinator of the Chicago Bears. Clearly nothing has changed with this organization, because they are looking at a guy that is from a losing organization, and who has the 22nd worst offense in the league scoring only 21 points per game. Hello, is anyone alive and awake in this organization, why is a guy who is from a losing organization and has an offense that is scoring only 1.7 more points per game then the Dolphins current putrid offense, even being considered as an option. I doubt that he will get the job, however it is extremely disappointing that this team is even giving Gase a thought.
Bottom line is with Chris Grier , who os quoted as saying “Tannehill is our guy”, has been promoted to a figure head GM, which in reality is a glorified scout that reports directly to Tannenbaum. Mike Tannenbaum will be the main man to chisel out the vision for the team, so this means the coach must be willing to have limited control over personnel. Tannenbaum had some great hits with Revis during his time as Jets GM, but also big misses that ultimately led to his being forced to step down. I am not very inspired by him at the helm, but I also can say he may have grown and could be the right man for the job. The fact that he isn’t a football guy is my biggest concern. The fact he is more corporate than turf is another. BUT, dysfunctional will be brought to a minimum due to his complete control and if he chooses the right people, and he is excellent at thinking on the macro level is COULD pan out. Sink or swim one man has the bulls eye…so, we shall see!! Go Fins!!!

Does anyone other than myself enjoy Alex Collins performance on the field? I think a steal at 3rd or 4th round.
4th round———–103th picked Alex Collins Arkansa R/B
Just like Tannehill I’ve Watch Lamar Miller over the seasons, I like Collins performance if the Fins needed to choose.
Tannenbaum is a suck up to Ross, and will bust in his role. Fins wont be able to fix shiota given Ross is a pure moron. There are too many cultural problems w this organization, and no HC can fix that.
The HC search will be for the equivalent of another “yes” man a la the Jerry Jones style of management.
Tannehill is a bust in terms of a franchise QB. He would make a nice #2 QB but no team will go anywhere with this brain fart of a QB.
As far as this upcoming draft, we wont have to wait long to see just how fucked up Tannenbaum will make this team, but then again even a blind squirrel ….
I am sadly in agreement on this one with you Freak!…Sadly..
Dunner
I don’t think an experienced successfull in the NFL coach will come to Miami and work for Tannebaum
It will probably be someone who is hungry to have their first job as a coach
Some offensive or defensive coordinator or college coach who doesn’t mind giving up control of player personnel selections just so he can be promoted to NFL coach
I hope for the best but have some serious reservations as long as Tannebaum is in charge
Another 4 or 5 years of mediocrity facing us unless team is sold
At the end of these next 5 years Ross will finally concede that he cannot be successfull as an owner and will finally sell the team
(Wishful thinking ?)
We shall see!!!
Yeah we shall see, but I fear and inept King with chase away any true generals. I could be wrong…but, something about a guy heading the whole operation who isn’t a football guy scares the heck out of me. But, we shall see!
I do not buy that Gase coming from a losing organization to hold any merit. If that were the case then Billacheat should be a bad HC. After all, he was the Browns HC for 4 years compiling a 36–44 record, and 5-11 in his last season.
Tannebaum is here and that is not going to change any time soon. So, as a Dolphin fan I have to hope that he has learned from his previous stops and that his plan is successful. If not, we will be looking at another Ireland situation all over again (for the record I don’t believe anyone can repeat the Ireland debacle).
I don’t see Tannebaum hiring a newbie HC. This organization and Tannebaum needs to get this correct, will be a veteran.
…I can’t see Tannenbaum even considering Shula …the politics would be ferocious
…Shanahan’s 2 SBs came with an inherited HoF QB Elway …what Shanahan contributed was a running game to complement Elway’s passing, something Reeves had never been able to provide …when Elway retired after the 2nd SB, the Broncos went in the toilet …that said, he does have a strong record of developing RBs from low draft picks …just don’t see him fitting into the Tannenbaum situation …in both Denver and Wash he insisted on final say in player selection …Tannenbaum isn’t going to cede that
…the GM situation is a end run around the Rooney rule …Tannenbaum gets GM power w/o having to interview other candidates …remember Ross swore last year that Hickey retained full say over player selection in order to appease other NFL owners incensed at the Tannenbaum hiring …that was obviously not true and several owners were prepared to make an issue of it …solution: promote a black to GM who would go along with Tannenbaum having the final say …that’s why, imnsho, Hickey is gone
…Urban Meyer = Nick Saban = Chip Kelly …great college coaches with big egos and no experience dealing with pro players …don’t see Meyer working under Tannenbaum
…I’m 50/50 on Campbell …think the longer the hunt goes on the better his chances become …got a bad taste in my mouth when he chose a FG on 4th and 1 at the goal line with 4 minutes left when 3pts wasn’t enough to win the game
…just really really down on the Tannenbaum thing …not my call …will still be a fin fan but not seeing many playoff tickets in my future
And we all know what the Grier hire was all about right? They got their token…
…he has no decision making power…merely another voice in the concensus requirement process.
Management through concensus is code for management void of leadership – Me.
Lemmus I agree ! Coach Campbell 5 wins and 7 loses for his 1st NFL Coaching job, I would give some strong consideration. I think if Coach Campbell could bring more Game wining consistency to the Dolphins he could be our man.
Winning Five games and losing 7 games requires some consideration for head coaching Job. (Key he would need the best offensive and defensive coordinator around to succeed and management to stay off the field.
Shannahan won because they had the most viscious cut blocking ever and a great rb to feed off it. They were the dirtiest line ever. I had never seen so many defensive players on the ground ever game, it was obscene. No to him and no to Smith. I honestly am not in favor of any of the candidates at this point. Maybe I’m just a negative Nelly!!!!
Steve
I would love Urban Meyer but I don’t think he is a yes man so he will probably decline to even interview – I am surprised Shannahan interviewed I have very high regard for him as a coach
The question is will Tannebaum and Ross give the new coach the real authority to make personnel decisions the answer is most probably not
I would be surprised if Shanahan accepts the job knowing he is being forced to accept players he might deem unsuitable for the job
He already went through that in Washington with the selection of RGIII who was forced upon him by the owner and they gave up a ton of picks for him
In the end Shanahan who opposed the deal to go for RGIII was right and it has set back Washington Redskins several years
Well I see the same problem here with Tannebaum
let’s remember it was him that wanted and pursued Suh and gave him that huge contract thus limiting our ability to get other free agents
It was him who wanted to give Tannehill a new rich contract although he did not have to for another year
Tannehill is loyal – He wasn’t going anywhere Those decisions were not Philbin’s
Now who decided not to even try to negotiate with Mathis ?? I don’t know, but Tannebaum had the last word and he ultimately decided not to pursue a pro bowler Guard the #1 rated Guard in 2014 in all of the NFL knowing we needed one desperately
He and Ross have carried this political correctness bullshit too far with the Dolphins
So the new coach will not be in total control as to who is or is not on the team
For all intents and purposes Tannebaum will act as the GM and our new GM will only make recommendations as to who to select in the draft
The new potential head coach unless it is Campbell will really not know the players capabilities for a while
I hope you are right and Tannebaum does a bang up job for us and gets us the right players but in my humble opinion chances of that happening are not good given his past performance the politically correct sickness that exisists with Ross in charge and his arrogance
So if there is a great player out there but too flashy he will pass on him for the mediocre one that is not as good but he is quiet and doesn’t say anything that is controversial in Ross’s opinion
We have not had a great coach since Shula
I hope they consider Mike Shula – he is the offensive coach for the team that almost went unbeaten this season 15-1
Would also love to see him come home
He is hungry and has learned from the best
Shannahan would be an interesting pick for the Dolphins He would demand some respect to run his team. Ralph! Mike Shula can bring his 15-1 to Miami any time. For as the QB do you recall the 70’s Steelers Chuck Nole had three Quarterbacks and you never new who would play because he was about player performance. The 3 QB’s were Terry Branshaw, Terry Handraddy and Jefferson Street Joe Gilliam. Had Chuck Noles not bench Branshaw, he may never have become the great QB that he had become.
PS” Maybe the Fins could get them both!
3. Urban Meyer, Ohio State
Top college coaches 2015
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000354752/article/14-for-14-countdowns-of-college-footballs-best
Admin! Are the Dolphins trying to make deal with one of these coaches! (If not they should keep Coach Campbell)!
Career record: 128-22
NFL draft picks the last five years: 22
Nobody gets fans fired up like Meyer, thanks to his somewhat brash and outspoken nature. Still, it’s hard to argue with the results on the field as the offensive-minded head coach has won everywhere from Bowling Green to Ohio State and has two national titles to his name. Considering his worst season is 8-5, Meyer knows exactly what he’s doing and is a great motivator.
9. Gary Patterson, TCU
Career record: 120-44
NFL draft picks the last five years: 13
The move to the Big 12 has taken some of the shine off Patterson’s star status, but make no mistake — he’s one of the best defensive minds in the game. He guided the Horned Frogs to a Rose Bowl victory and annually had them in the final top 25 for years. Despite wandering the country from conference to conference, he only has two losing records in 12 years and doesn’t back down from a big game.
13. Jimbo Fisher, Florida State
Career record: 45-10
NFL draft picks the last five years: 28
Seminoles fans will likely be upset that Fisher is this low after turning the program back into a powerhouse and winning a national title, but keep in mind he’s still a young head coach and can surely rise up this list. Some early, puzzling losses are the only things keeping him back at the moment because the fastest-talking coach in the country has FSU humming right now
8. Mark Dantonio, Michigan State
Career record: 82-46
NFL draft picks the last five years: 13
Consistently one of the toughest Big Ten programs under his watch, Dantonio has been the steady hand that has raised the Spartans’ profile to Big Ten and Rose Bowl champions. He won’t win any awards on signing day, but he knows how to develop talent and field a top-notch defense.
4. David Shaw, Stanford
Career record: 34-7
NFL draft picks the last five years: 17
There’s a reason his name pops up anytime there’s an NFL opening, because owners would love to see the calm demeanor he has combined with a great coaching acumen on their sideline. People think he just inherited what Jim Harbaugh did on “the Farm,” but Shaw was a major part of the Cardinal’s rise to become a national power and has elevated the program to become a championship-winning one. Plus, you’ll find no coach on this list who can diagram plays and discuss politics with presidents quite like Shaw.
Okay Dolfans makes some noise! Their records dont lie! We dont need a Yes Man.
Steve, Highly highly doubt it is going to be a first time NFL head coach, which means any college coaches. They need to get this right and I believe that it will be a veteran coach.
Dunner!
Any Coach who can get the Dolphins A super Bowl win I’m all for it. Nick Saban was a college coach straight out of LSU who lead the Dolphins his 1st season 9 wins and 6 loses. Joe Philbin has never got the Dolphins over 8 wins in 4 or 5 season. All I have to say is that it will not take a YES MAN!

Admin I truely believed that the Dolphins are looking for a yes man! What coach would come to an organization an say I’m going to win with this QB because the Management and Owners says this is who Im going to play?
A True Warrior will demand that he play the best players to Win the game.
I want Tannehill to succeed and I’ve watch him these seasons. No one should be nonexpendible on the team when everyone else is evaulated on their performance. My advice to the Dolphins is don’t commit a lot of money until you see the results on the field.
PS: Example Russell Wilson (Play offs -Super Bowl), all before he was awarded a big contract?
Admin once again! We are not trying to fixed the problem we are looking for a yes man would you agree?
Too late for that BIG contract and Russell Wilson has not yet received any contract to date.
Dunner!
Oh! I thought he had received a contract.
Steve
ohh and Steve, yeah…I have more hope in T-Hill then I do Tannenbaum…But that’s me more than my Admimship talking!!!
M.J
I here you! I would like to see Tannehill success always. The Dolphins have set Tannehill up for failure over the year’s not the Fans.
All I’m saying is! Its going on 5 seasons with T. I’m still thinking of those games when the Dolphins only needed to beat the Jets and Bills to make the playoffs but could not beat sub 500 teams.
Dolphins need a insurance package to seriouly challenge Tannehill performance i.e. injury etc. Draft 5th round–135th picked Kevin Hogan QB Stanford Q/B play resembled Philips Rivers fromt the Chargers.
While Hogan ride and developed on the Bench all is not lost this 2016 season. Honestly Cardale Jone Ohio State would be my 1st choice in the 3rd round considering fins gets extra picks.
M.J. We need a good Spare Tire not a Spare donot for 50 miles?
Yeah, Steve I think Tannenbaum is drunk with power and he is like Kim Jung Il …absolute power and an absolute clown. I hope I am so wrong I get eggs thrown at me …I really do, but I sense and nose dive coming!!!! Man, I hate to be this down…I try to keep things upbeat, but I’m not sure I have enough helium for this one!!!
I would say Tannenbaum is under the microscope along with Tannehill this season. Will see how they fair this season. But what will not help is:
Hireing a Yes Man for A Coach!
1. Will not filled the bleachers
2. Will not get Dolphins Prime time TV
3. Will not win Play offs
Admin!
Can we make the case that the Miami Dolphins are trying to fixed their mediocre are just looking for a Yes Man?
1. Here are the facts would the University of Alabama hire a coach that was fired for poor performance?
2. Why are the Dolphins trying to convinced us that Tanehill is their QB? @ 6 wins and 11 Loses?
3. Im not concerned about the last game, its says nothing but we the Coaches and players could not handle the presure during
regular season, .
Sounds like shooting at a paper target in the dark? Its not going to work?
