Miami Adds Offensive Coordinator

PCCFQMHOPSICQGZ.20140118223644

Miami Dolphins rounded out the “heads of the staff” with the hiring of Offensive Coordinator Clyde Christensen. With Gase, Rizzi, Joseph, and now Christensen, all the major players are on the staff and the mold is set for 2016. But, if you are not in the know like me and say, “who did we hire”, the question at hand is who is Clyde Christensen?

First, Clyde was hired to play the role, don’t cringe please, of Philbin in Green Bay. He will be a personnel coach who installs the weekly game plan and Gase will call the plays. This is a very nice fit since both have worked with Manning and likely have offensive concepts that jive. This shared vision will go a long way in giving Tannehill the stability needed to be put him in the best position to succeed.

Christensen started off as a QB for Fresno state and then transferred the Tar heels, leading them to Peach and Liberty Bowl bids. This is a good complementary skill set to Gase’s who has very limited hands on football experience and may help him better relate to Tannehill by understand certain aspects of quarterbacking from a more personal perspective.

More importantly, he has six seasons of experience as a TE coach in Tampa, six season as WR coach in Indianapolis as well as eight season as OC in Indianapolis. He is well traveled and adding his college experience as an RB coach, he has experience with all units on the offense except the O-Line. Considering Miami’s situation on the line, it wouldn’t take the best sportsbooks in the world to guess it would have been nice to see the OC with personal experience with linemen, but a very good line coach can offset that easily.

The only concern I see at this point is that Gase will be a first time coach calling plays. McCarthy did it in Green Bay and managed to win a championship, but he recently gave over those control because he became susceptible to tunnel vision. A HC’s job is to over see the team as a whole…maybe Gase will be the exception. It will be very interesting to see how he’ll handle the situation. Go Fins!!!

Well “Dunner”and “Admin”….My understanding is that Gase will have control when the Dolphins complete the preseason and have the team down to the last “53 men “. So, no control over spring-tryouts, training camp, preseason, as it relates to cuts or additions. He must have really wanted the job to agree to those conditions ? Not many prospects would accept those conditions I don’t think.

I’d think it was getting down to 53 men which would be actually setting the team…but, honestly I am not certain. I’ll look into it and try to find something concrete. Thanks, but he had at least two teams interested so I dont think he was desperate for a job..maybe he was desperate for this gig…not sure why he would be…If it is as you say, then he gave up a tremendous amount of leverage!!!

According to all reports from the Gase hire. Gase has complete control of the 53 man roster. Does that include the draft? Not sure, but I sure hope so.

He has control of players going out…Tannenbaum has complete control of players going in…at least from what I was told.

Not a very inspiring resume. This guy played QB and was a transfer. He is Gase’s cronie from Denver. He is a version of Philbin. Fantastic! It makes me glad to be a season ticket holder.

Gase is a first time HC. All of the coordinators are first time coordinators. The hiring of Gase and now Christensen is to specifically work with Tannnahill. Isn’t this crazy. Tannnahill is in his 5th year. They are not even going to have him compete for the job by bringing in another QB. Tannnahill is the luckiest guy in the NFL. How long are they going to caldlle a guy who has played so poorly? This guy can’t win throwing against the practice squad.

This team is doomed for failure for the next 3 years as long as we have the same front office. I’ve been a fan for 40 years and can’t take it anymore. I’m out!!!

They hired a first time HC and all first time coordinators. The new HC and OC are there to work with Tannahill. This team is doomed for failure. This is the Worst front office in the league, including Cleveland. I’m out!

I get your frustration, been there with you for 38 yrs. I was totally bummed when Wanstache took over…What they did to Marino and then to hand it over too that bum!!! Clyde is an 8yr vet as an OC and Rizzi is super experienced…not that it is gonna make you feel any better. This will be T-Hills last season if he flops…I’m trying to find this article, so good on Gase. It is very well written and very knowledgeable and uses a lot of clips to demonstrate his potential. It will give you some hope…I’m looking for it and when I find it, I’ll respond on this article to you will the link. Sadly though,I have a lot more faith in the staff then I do in Tannenbaum. Just wait till you see if this regime sucks before total meltdown…then, if they suck, I’ll meltdown with you, brother!!!

Here is the link…best article I’ve seen in awhile. Tremendous write up with tremendous amount of sourcing…so good. Makes you want to believe in Gase and T-Hill…Not saying it will end up that way, but he presents a very strong case!!!!

Well he did direct Manning to an epic season and then Gase out did him. But, I think the strongest part of the pairing is they are of the same mind and will work very well with each other. He has 8 yrs of being a OC who called games…so I wouldn’t say it’s a junk resume like Philbin’s.

So we have a complete change in staff as far as the coaches and GM but what will Tannebaum’s role be? Will he still weigh heavy on player selections like this last year?? I hope not.
The selection of players is a very important factor
We have not had a stellar and consistent selection of players since the early Shula days. We need to hit on all our selections this year.
I hope that having a new brain trust at the front office will result in better selections and allow the synergism of these coaches and GM staff to work together so as to make wiser decisions that will help our team
It is always easier to coach if you have good players to coach.
    I’m optimistic.

Yeah Ralph, we need to hit big over the next few years…and Tannenbaum is probably the the “main man”. Even if Gase is great, talent or lack of will make this regime sink or swim…I’m bringing a life raft with me next season just in case.
