Misi Getting New 2016 Contract
As of yesterday the Miami Herald is reporting that linebacker Koa Misi will be retained for the 2016 with a new contract.
It’s unclear at present if it will be restructure or pay cut. Either way his $4.9 mill contract will be lowered while still retaining his services.
The defensive end turned linebacker has proven when healthy he can contribute in run defense and leadership, but his history of inconsistency due to injury made his large contract demand Miami cut him or restructure the contract.
It’s good news that Miami wins on several fronts: they maintain a known commodity for a thin squad, have one less player to acquire if he were simply cut, give more flexibility going into Free Agency and get Misi at a lower his salary. It doesn’t take the best sportsbooks to figure it’s a win all around.
So far this regime seems to be make sound moves…let’s hope it continues! Go Fins!!!
Maybe with better players around him it will keep him healthy.
Steve, if he just fills a small niche, provides leadership and comes in on run downs – I’m good with that for a season.
Went mocking and I have now seen a few credible post combine mockers have Bosa going to Miami at 8. I hope that he runs sloooow at his pro day.
hahahah…when you look there could be a chance some top 5 players could fall…Wished I was better familiar with the college game to know who was a blue chipper and not have to be told who is a blue chipper…think this season it’s time for me to get acquainted with the college game.
Admin, Bosa’s pro comparison is that of JJ Watt, and he plays like it. He would quickly have people forget about both Wake and OV. Bosa next to Suh for the next 3/4 years would be phenomenal. I’ve seen Bosa go in every slot from 1-5, first time I have seen him slide to 8. That would be a dream start to the draft.
Dunner, I’m down for that!!!! Man, I really need to watch more college…my wife might kill me though.
At least Misi gets it. Sometimes you take less to get more. Maybe Wake and Vernon should take notice.
He is a good vet, role player back-up to have. Yeah, Wake especilly – Vernon I can understand, he’s played for “peanuts” and this might be his one contract. Wake as already made a ton…
I agree with you admin, and understand the OV reference. His one contract; does he want to stay home, w a team/franchise he is familiar with for 11 million/season or go else where for 13 million per? The grass is always greener. Personally I don’t want Miami to give him more than 9 million per, but that is me.
Wake needs to work w front office or walk as well (pains me to say that). This defense needs a face lift, regardless if its at DE position, LBer, and/or CBs, or all the above. The combination of OV and Wakes contracts could enable Miami to bring in a DE such as William Hayes (2/3 year player who excels vs the run) of the Rams for about 4 million per and draft a replacement for OV and still have 4/5 million left over to help retain Shelby and get a guard or 2. Grimes could be replaced w a player such as Janoris Jenkins of the Rams for the same money to get a younger player with probably better production as well and bring in a player such as PacMan Jones for decent money.
There are options, and I understand that this may be cruel moves. This team (defense) is in a transition period, and given all, can still win while transitioning. With such moves, they can still approach the draft as they would right now and only strengthen the roster/team. Should be an interesting few weeks ahead of us.
