Is Henry A Potential Second Round Steal?
Could Henry be there at 42 to offer a potential second round steal for Miami?
The NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and it’s still anyone’s guess what Miami will do with their first round selection? But, is Henry a potential second round steal for Miami?
My personal preference is that Miami trades back, and then selects one of the top corner backs in the Draft, such as Eli Apple or William Jackson III. This would be my best case scenario because it would allow us to select a big bodied potential starting CB, and then give us an extra second or third round selection. If Miami does select a CB or anyone besides RB Ezekiel Elliot, then my preferred second round selection would be the RB from Alabama – if he is still there.
Henry was last year’s Heisman Trophy winner because he is a rare combination of strength and speed. Henry is 6’2”, 247 pounds, and ran the 40 in 4.54 seconds. Last season, he was the work horse of the National Champion team, with 395 carries for 2,061 yards, 25 touchdowns, 11 receptions and 91 receiving yards. In addition, because of his tremendous size, Henry is a very good blocker in pass protection as well, which gives him a lot of upside to become a true three down starter. The only worry I would have, is that Henry has a ton of mileage already with 602 carries in his 3 years at Alabama. However, the other way to look at this, would be that all these carries proves that he can handle a heavy work load if his number is consistently called upon.
For all his size, Henry is the most explosive player in the draft within the first 20yrd of the “40”.
Last, here’s a little tidbit to nibble on: ESPN’s “Sports Science” has Henry having the fastest first 5 yards in the “40” in the last five years. To add to that, his first 20 yards was the fastest of any player in this years draft. Check the whole video here.
Since running back is not a position that is highly valued in the first round of the draft, a player such as Henry could easily still be on the board when Miami selects with the 11th pick in the second round, which would be the 42nd overall selection in the draft. If he is still on the board, and the Phins did not draft Elliot, then most pay per head bookie fans would agree that Henry would not only fill a huge need, but could also be one of the best players available.
Henry and Ajayi, who is also a big bruising back at 6’0, 228 pounds, could be a very young promising running back duo in the zone stretch that Gase is running. They would bring a smash mouth type of football to the running game as both players have the power and strength to wear on a defense deep into the fourth quarter. The Dolphins need to get tougher, and Henry would be the perfect way to fill that big need. What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about selecting Henry?

Another Trade! Quantity vs. Value player? Who Right?
The Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a trade that includes both teams swapping their respective 2016 first-round picks.
The Cleveland Browns will receive the Philadelphia Eagles 2016 first-round pick (No. 8), third-round pick (No. 77) and fourth-round pick (No. 100) as well as their 2017 first-round pick and 2018 second-round pick. The Eagles will receive Cleveland’s 2016 first-round pick (No. 2) and a 2017 fourth-round pick.
That trade takes the Eagles out of the Elliott running (no pun intended). Looks to be only Dallas as the other possible Elliott taker prior to Miami.
Steve, your Elliott desire looks to possibly could come into fruition.

The Giant and Bears may have interest in him?
Agree, the Giants have always felt like they can get by w any back, and Bears have a young up and coming Langford. But, Elliott is a different talent, you could be right!

I agree 100% our Defense needs immediate attention! Most of us know of Wake and Suh. Any one Else? this season I think we will learn more names by their performance?
What Happen with an Elite Running Back? Even with an “Elite Defense” the Fins must be able to produce points? or A shut Down Corner (Many just view his size but Most Receivers have been taller than Hargreaves?
8. Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State, 6-0, 225, 4.47, Junior: With all due respect to the other running backs in this class, the drop off from Elliott to the next tier is as steep as any position in the 2016 draft. Elliott is classic bellcow back in an era lacking them, showing the vision, burst, power and balance to be an NFL star. Elliott is just as effective on third down, showing soft hands and savvy as a receiver and the best awareness and competitiveness as a blocker as any back I’ve scouted in many years.
10. Vernon Hargreaves III, CB, Florida, 5-10, 204, 4.50, Junior: A rare three-time first-team All-SEC pick, Hargreaves combines instincts, agility and controlled aggression to shut down one side of the field in coverage. Hargreaves doesn’t possess ideal height, but he’s highly aggressive, which includes fighting off blocks and looking to tackle backs in run support. Further, he possesses excellent ball skills, as his 10 career interceptions can attest.
Both are Pro Bowler’s Etc.

I really like Martin and a Day two Pick? Value, Value, Value cannot put enough emphasis on this!
Nick Martin, the younger brother of Cowboys guard Zack Martin is the definition of a plug-and-play prospect.
He lacks dominant size or elite mobility but he has enough functional strength and elite awareness on the field to excel immediately.
With experience at both guard and center, Martin’s versatility is also an asset. He should be viewed as a prospect who can be plugged in immediately at center and left alone for the next 10 years.
We need to move away from Pouncy soon.
Admin, I too believe it is time to move on from Pouncey, followed by Albert next year if not this year as well. Both Pouncey and Albert share the biggest cap hit in 2016, both a whopping 10+ million $. Either one of their salaries could be used to sign newly free agent Josh Norman. I don’t believe there is a CB available in this years draft as good as Norman, and that includes Hargraves. Miami must not see as much value in Hargraves as other do, or they would not have moved out of the #8 slot. If Miami could sign Norman that would allow them to focus on another position in the top half of the draft, ie: RB, LBer, OL, DE.
If Eliott is not there at #13, trade down, get an extra second and/or third. Such a move could then allow Miami to double up in the second round w O-Lineman. Two guards, one of which could possibly move to left tackle next year (Cody Whitehair), 1 guard and one a center for this year (Ryan Kelly/Nick Martin); How Do You Like That Lemmus, 🙂 ? Even though both Albert and Pouncey have big dead $ hits, Miami is allowed 2 post June 1 designations (which would then carry minimal dead $ hit for both). I would only double down w O-Lineman if we some how signed Norman. If not a CB needs to be taken w one of the first 2 picks.
All just thoughts, as the NFL landscape seems to change on a daily basis. With a little creativity, this Miami roster/team could look so much different than it did in ’15, without it being a total whip out or start over.
I would really like a Norman/Maxwell CB duo. It would be a bit of $ on the 2 CB positions, but at least we should be all set at those positions for the next 4 years.
…sigh …we simply don’t have the cap to make a run at Norman …and if we did, why would we? …he is, on his record to date, a one year wonder …what has been our FA record with high priced one year wonders? …not good …so he’s a pass in my book.
…Henry, the more I look the less I like …the RB in this offense MUST pass block well and catch passes reliably …Henry has shown a talent for neither …if he’s still around in the 4th, ok …but not in the 2/3
…and Dunner …if there is anyone here who is guilty of “cut and paste” take a look in the mirror …”DEFENSE WINS” ad infinitum …good god gerty
…do you really want to be here in Jan ’17 and still arguing about Tannehill? …with the call on his contract committing us to him for 3 more years? …DEFENSE isn’t going to tell us anything about Tannehill …but a real OL will.
…as for RBs, Tannebaum scares me …his penchant for wheeling and dealing could see us trading UP for Elliot …not that I’d be unhappy with Elliot at 13 if no decent trade DOWN was available …at least he can actually pass block and catch …but no way in hell would I give up any picks to trade up for him.
…however, with the impending run on backup QBs of the future at the top of this draft, along with a potential run on DL, Stanley may well fall to us at 13 and I’d want to shoot Tannenbaum if he passed on him and went for Hargreaves instead …BOTH of our OT are injury prone, one is aged, our center isn’t earning his keep, and our guards belong at the Long Island Express entry gates …not to mention the absolute need to evaluate our QB on his own merits rather than those of his OL.
…so if this seems like “cut ‘n paste” to anyone, pardon me …I try not to let fantasy football get in the way of reality, eh …imnsho of course 🙂
Why did I bother. I should have known. There is always cap room for any team any player. Creativity!!!
…while I do think Aponte is better than most cap managers, so far as I know she doesn’t have a golden goose in her purse …he wants north of $15 mil a year …for a one year wonder …don’t blame him and we may long regret not giving it to him …but then there’s that cap thing, eh …not to mention our record with former FA one year wonders …I try to be realistic (outside of my obsession with the OL) 🙂
To Emmitt Smith’s point, he pointed to the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks in recent years as Super Bowl-caliber teams that relied heavily on their running games.

They won because of their defense. Denver didn’t have a very good running game
True Dat Travis!!! I have been trying to explain that throughout the off season. DEFENSE WINS, PERIOD!!! History does not lie, I am glad that someone else see’s our needs as I do.
Thing that worries me about Henry is he is tall and not much of a receiver. In this league you need backs that can catch like a wr. I would agree with Lemmus in that we should go guard in round two if we don’t in round one and take a RB in the third or fourth that can catch. He reminds me of Brandon Jacobs who was good with a very short career
Travis Lee
Henry Height I do have some concerned but on the other hand. Larry Csonka · Height 6 feet 3 inches he is one of the 9 Dolphins who’s in the Hall of Fame? and Henry’s winning the Heisman Trophy Said’s he know Bust! Just staying healthy would be my only concerned? Can we be 100% sure on any of these players? Henry and Elliot are special. I would have either on my team any day?
Henry is a BIG back, and his receiving skills are still a bit of a mystery, because of the way Alabama used him. One of the first 2 picks will be a CB, so unless we trade down and accumulate another second round pick, I don’t see a guard being taken in the second round, will be the third. This is a defensive heavy draft (just what we need), and there will be more value on a defensive player at 42, when same guard value could be had in the third.
Defense wins. Dallas Cowboys are drafting forth overall with the best O-Line in the league. Think that was a coincidence? Miami ranked 28th in run defense, Dallas 23rd. If you can’t stop the run, forget about it, and we can’t stop the run.
His height does concern me to…I really like backs 5’8” – 6’0”…those knees get exposed…Peterson, George and Dickerson are some of the exceptions of course.
…I like Henry …or Elliot …but neither one of them is going to do f* all behind our current OL, especially when the inevitable injuries hit again and again a la 2014/15
…take Henry …he is not an elusive runner …he needs blocking in front of him to get through that first level …then his speed and power make him dangerous …but he needs the OL to get him there …does anyone here think Thomas is that blocker? …enough said
…at the risk of sounding like a broken record, it won’t make a damn bit of difference who the RB/QB/WR/TEs are …much less the defense …if the OL can’t do its job first
…I think its beyond stupid to think Tannehill can get through another year of being sack bait w/o major injury …and no one appears to consider the end of season call this team MUST make on Tannehill …either we lock him in or we go another route …his contract doesn’t give us leeway to wait another year on making that call …its now or never
…all the signs point to Tannebaum/Gase going after “impact” players …like RB/CB/LB …in the first few rounds …and trying to catch a starting OL in the later rounds …despite our scouting producing a horrid record on OL in those same rounds the past several years
…I know that’s sexy …but I think for this team, this year, its borderline suicide …imnsho of course
Lemmus, Do you cut and paste your posts? I hear you with the O-Line, but defense wins, and defense should be priority at this point. Good thing is, we will find out their thought process in 8 days.
imnsho of course….. don’t want to be accused of bullying you, your posts!
Justwatched a Q&A on Conklin…like him even more. I think the kid has a shot to play LT…but as a RT he would be excellent and likely as a guard as well. Nowadays they flip the rushing ends so much left or right is nearly the same.
Heisman Trophy Winner would be a step up for the Dolphins.
Who ever the Player is the Fins have to realize they have lost prime time games this season unless they earned it. That being said this Dolphins team has no prime time players that the nation care to watch? Those are the Facts. Stephen Curry goes down for injury and his team continue to win. The Fins lose Tannehill to injury or performance they are finished this season. So maybe a good idea that the team plays out of town?
