Even though the NFL Draft is less than 2 weeks away, the Dolphins are still scouring the league for fallen “acorns” – sorry to use the”Irelandism”. The Dolphins just announced have claimed Defensive Tackle Chris Jones off waivers in another low risk, high reward roll by Tannenbaum. Once again, Miami has decided to use the waiver wire in order to acquire a player that will have zero impact on their compensatory draft pick formula.
Chris Jones is entering his 5th year in the league, however he missed all of last season with the New England Patriots after suffering a calf injury. However, before last year he started 23 games throughout the 2103 to 2104 season for the Patriots generating 79 tackles and 9 sacks. Jones is a bit smaller for a DT at 6’1, 295 pounds, however he makes up for this in his quickness.
Add him with CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, who during the 2014 College Football season Oregon was one of the best Cornerbacks at the collegiate level, as a result of an injury, Ekpre-Olomu was selected in the 7th round of the 2015 Draft, by the Cleveland Browns, and spent the entire 2015 recovering from his knee injury.
And add him with Alonso, who finished third among all NFL players with 159 total tackles and was selected as the Defensive Rookie of the Year. But, due to a knee injury fell on hard time, which ultimately landed him with the Dolphins.
Alonso, Ekpre-Olomu, and now Jones are all high level talents if healthy.
Most pay per head bookie fans would say that at least one of these players will rebound and that would mean Miami picked up a potent talent for peanuts. That’s smart management. Yes, it’s believed that smart, Dolphins management is an oxymoron, but maybe not anymore. Either Miami fans have entered the Twilight Zone, a brief lucky patch, or have a team that is a well run franchise! Hold on a “sec” as I take an extra dose of heart “meds”. Only time will tell, and that time isn’t far off. Go Fins!!!
Oregon QB Adam would be A Could ( Non Drafted Free Agent to bring to Camp)
of the San Francisco Chronicle reported this past Wednesday that Adams didn’t have any private workouts or predraft visits with any NFL teams. Every club giving him the cold shoulder on visits is certain to add to the chip on Adams’ shoulder.
Adams did a commendable job in a tough spot as the successor to Oregon legend Marcus Mariota and put together three productive seasons at Eastern Washington, highlighted by a 2013 campaign in which he threw for 55 TDs, per the Washington Post.
Scouts don’t seem to believe in Adams’ potential as a pro. He did tell Jones he’ll be grateful for any opportunity in the NFL, even as a priority free agent, and that whichever team gets him will love him.
The PAT’s won there 1st 10 games last season before injuries stop them.
We often wonder how they keep reloading talent?
Per usual under Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots were relatively quiet in free agency. This franchise doesn’t go out and spend huge sums of cash on other people’s stars. It simply builds its own.
However, the Patriots did make one big splash, this via trade. They dealt away Pro-Bowl pass rusher Chandler Jones to the Cardinals for Jonathan Cooper and a 2016 second-round pick. Jones had some off-field issues in New England last season, but likely more relevant, he was due to hit free agency himself next season, and NE always bails too early rather than too late.
The Pats also filled some of the Jones void by signing Chris Long to a cheap contract later that same day. The acquisition of Cooper was vital for a weakened offensive line, while the addition of that second-round draft pick helps to alleviate the forfeiture of the team’s first-round pick that it shouldn’t have had to give up in the first place.

Ohh yeah, that as wise long term..very wise. And Long will likely be very, very good in a more limited role. It was a brilliant move in my eyes.

The Dolphins have many scenario to choose from @ spot 13th. The Fins could select at 13th pick and trade back in the second for maybe A 3rd and 4th round pick. The PATS have five fifth round picks this draft and no 1st round pick. That would ensure we filled some necessary holes.
I think if they sign Jones that DE might be officially off the board at 13#. I was starting to warm to the idea of DE because of the talent available at 13 at the position.
I don’t know anything about Jones?, I thought last season with Suh & Wake requiring a double team it would be easier for the rest of the Fins Defense to make plays? But it didn’t happen. We really need one of the top ILB who can lead and demand excellent?
I thin they maybe using Alonso this yeah as MLB, Jordan as SLB. They hae said they will go BPA …not really knowledgeable enough to determine who that is, but that’s where they will go. If they sign Jones they will have four contract for player that will need to be used. I can see them going DE later but not a first, if they do sign him because they said he’d be a day one starter and with the four DE’s that would be unlikely.
Leonard Floyd seems intriguing. If he could play SLB that would be super! I can say I am jacked now for this draft…I hope I don’t find coal in my aqua stocking!!
Maybe we are within the Eye of the Storm with the Dolphins Management? So far So Good!

21. Reggie Ragland, ILB, Alabama, 6-1, 247, 4.72, Senior: Ragland is a classic thumper in the middle with the instincts, physicality and reliable tackling to start immediately. He does not possess ideal agility and speed for coverage but has experience rushing the passer, projecting as a three down defender.

Ryan Kelly, C, Alabama, 6-4, 311, 4.96, Redshirt Senior: Voted the top center in the country and the SEC’s top lineman overall, Kelly is more decorated than a wedding cake, but it was not until the combine when Kelly’s underrated athleticism began to really stand out from his peers. Smart, tough, powerful and athletic, Kelly has the look of a 10-year starter in the NFL.
31. Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio State, 6-7, 310, 5.23, Senior: Draft picks don’t come much safer than Decker, the Big Ten’s Offensive Lineman of the Year. Massive and athletic, he has enough agility to potentially remain at left tackle in the NFL, plus the power, grit and tenacity to project nicely to the right side or guard.

Leonard Floyd, OLB, Georgia, 6-6, 244, 4.60, Redshirt Junior: Floyd was one of the SEC’s most-feared edge rushers throughout his career, beating opponents with first-step explosiveness, length and surprising functional strength for his relatively slim frame. He projects best as a stand-up rusher but has also shown the awareness and speed to handle coverage duties

…couldn’t agree more …all zero risk at this point with high upside potential …if just one earns a start, huge payoff …two would be manna from heaven …long overdue
…add these 3 to Dion Jordan and we have 4 possible starters who essentially cost us zilch and no comp risk (Jordan’s cap was already there) …and if any play to potential, whoohoo!
…but all are rolls of the dice and none may make the team …but the FO gets an A for effort
…now if Tannebaum can resist the urge to trade up …and drafts 2 OL starters …um um um …I like me some Dolphin steak, I do

I “feel” at least Alonso will do well. Maybe Jordan and Jones. Don’t know Jack about Ekpre-Olomu.
What ever pans out or doesn’t, I can at least agree with their vision. It’s been too long since that has happened, so I am grateful for that…I would be nice if things pan out though.
