Fans have expectations for the upcoming Draft. An expectation is a strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the future. Being Miami Dolphins News fans we have certain expectations that we would like our team to full fill in the upcoming NFL Draft. There is also a feeling of hope, which is something that we want to happen or expect to happen. Expectation and hope do not always breed the same outcome in the NFL world.
So even though I Expect the Dolphins to draft specific positions in this upcoming draft, the reality is that I can only hope they do. The Dolphins brass has vocally said they will draft a starter in the first round, and they have also said they are going to take the best player available approach. Luckily for the Dolphins, they have quite a few holes to fill, which should mean they can kill two birds with one stone and try to fill those holes with the best player available approach.
The fact is the Dolphins need to draft at least 1 running back and cornerback, so I strongly expect them to draft at least one of each of these positions in the first three rounds. If Miami does not come out of this draft with at least 1 running back or cornerback, most pay per head bookie fans would consider this a huge failure for the organization.
Next, I expect Miami to draft at least one offensive lineman and one linebacker. Those two positions are not an immediate need, because we do have multiple bodies on the team that can battle for a starting position. However, the bodies that are battling to start at those two position groups are not the most talented players in the league, and an injection of young talent could make those two groups better.
Some expectations, if not met, can be understood, and some, if not met, bring frustration.
So that is four main position groups that I expect the Dolphins to address with one of their 8 draft picks. Miami may also want to double down on one of these positions, such as cornerback because this is a huge need, and it can’t hurt to add two young players to compete for playing time.
With the remaining picks the best player approach should be in full effect because any position on this roster could use some new blood, specifically QB, TE, DE, or Safety. Those positions already have definitive starters, however, it is never too late to plan for the future. Depending on how Tannehill plays in Gase’s new offense will determine whether or not Miami will be shopping for a new QB next year.
So, we might as well have an insurance policy on the team now, and Draft a Rookie QB. In regards to the Tight End position, Jordan Cameron, and Dion Sims are both in the last year of their contract, so it would be wise to think ahead and draft a possible replacement now. We have some very talented Defensive Ends in Cameron Wake, and Mario Williams, but both players are entering the last stretch of their careers, so it would be wise to use their football wisdom in teaching a rookie. The Safety position is set with Jones, however, Abdul-Quddus really was only a starter last season, so there is no guarantee he can start a full 16 games, and continue to improve, so why not draft a safety in case Abdul-Quddus does not pan out?
These are my expectations for the Draft, what are the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans expectations for the upcoming draft?
The tide is turning there Lemmus (hopeful). We already have 2 starters from this years draft = Kiko and Byron. That is a good start, a good move, and we haven’t even used our first pick yet! And oh yea, again; Brady is out the first 4 games, lovely. We have a coach w a personality, who gets it. We have a defensive coordinator who is known for his creativity and aggressive style.
Hold tight, this draft could produce 6 new starters (inc. Kiko, Byron).

…y’all need to go back to 2013 and look at our first three picks, their draft ratings from all the “pro”s, and then at what has actually happened …three freaking disasters, eh …our 1st pick has never been a starter …our 2nd can’t keep a starting position …and our 3rd was the lowest rated player at his position in 2016!
…our scouts sucked and are still mostly with us, one of them now nominal GM …the GM sucked but he’s gone …and the GM the Jess fired is now our real GM …the coaching sucked but they’re mostly gone …the players are still with us …and the FO is projecting them as starters as of today …except #1 because he’s still technically suspended
…I don’t mind the draft projections …we all have to dream some …but I’m convinced that Parcells had it right when he used to double-down on draft picks …if we need a guard (need hell, we’re flat out desperate) then we should be doubling down early …not later
…yes we need a RB, a LB, a CB …but this team goes nowhere w/o a solid OL …out LT is 32 and to call him “injury prone” is laughable …they have a stretcher with his name on it on the sideline …and our RT was out a large part of last year due to injury and we had no decent b/u
…so we “need” a starting caliber OT …now
…our so-called guards were the lowest rated in the NFL last year …and our new coach says all they need is more time in the weight room …I say bullshit! …we need two OGs in this draft and we need them early …the odds on 4th rounders starting are horrid.
…so y’all keep pitching RB and defense …me, if we don’t have at least 3 starting OL by day 2, I’m going to scratch my NFL Sunday Ticket for this season, watch as the impending disaster unfolds, and come back next year saying “I told you!” …and not be at all happy in doing so

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I am starting to feel like Miami is going to trade up ^^^^ to get Elliott. Not sure what we will have to give to make this happen, but we as a team need picks, not give picks. I personally want Elliott, but not if we need to give up picks to do so. I would like defensive players in each of the first three rounds. The thought of Myles Jack sliding to 13 is insane, certainly wouldn’t mind Jack followed by a CB followed by a OG or DE. Should Leonard Floyd fall to 13, we should take him. This draft has starting D-Lineman that will be taken through the 4/5 rounds, that is how deep this draft is with D-Lineman. Wouldn’t surprise me to Miami taken one in the top 5 rounds.

Finally, the draft is here. Our start to the 2016 season is upon us. We already have a moral victory this season: Brady out the first 4 games, and yes one of Miami’s road games. Not a bad start!

Coach Gase I really like his approach and I believed that with this Coach We should make the playoffs and more! Not sure which Scnerio the Fins will take in the draft long as We finished with the BEST Players.

I’m not counting any chickens before they hatch as yet …the Pats won 11 games w/o Brady with a QB who failed to win a starter position with three other teams afterwards …Garoppolo was a pretty well thought of QB out of college and has had a full year on the bench behind Brady …he’s not going to be a push-over by any means …I still think Belicheat is the real difference maker on that team

Totally agree. Be surprised if it ends up sticking. However; usually when the Appeals Court over turns (reinstates) the decision, ends up sticking. Fingers crossed.

YES, there is a Football God!!! Brady’s 4 game suspension back on. Boy that would be great for Miami, that second straight road trip wouldn’t seem as insurmountable should it hold. Plus the Pats play @ Cards, Dolphins, Texans, Bills, not easy without Mr.Brady. Know shouldn’t worry about outside variables as a Dolphin fan, but what the h*ll, whatever it takes to finally ride the Pats of their AFC East supremacy.

More and More I am feeling a trade down, unless Elliott/Hargraves is there. IF Tunsil is there (jump), no way he makes it out of the top 7. See Dallas taking Elliott, Tampa taking Hargraves, leaving us plenty of other options for team needs, the same options we could have in the 20’s.
How about totally trading out of the first with a team such as Tennessee? Could trade them our 13th overall and a fifth rounder (147) for 2 seconds (38, 43) and a third (64). That could give us 3 early second round picks (38, 42, 43) and 2 early third round picks (64, 73). We would then have 5 of the top 73 picks, allowing us to get a CB (Xavien Howard), 2 O-Lineman (Spriggs, Garnett); Yes Lemmus, 2 OL, LBer (Joshua Perry), RB (Henry/Booker/Howard). That is some creative (wishful) thinking, but according to draft value chart, lines up.
I see a trade down in majority of the cases. I also see Miami taking a CB with the 42nd pick, targeting Xavien Howard, leaving the first round pick as a best player available pick. If that pick is not a position of need a trade down is probable.

Hargraves won’t be there, Tunsil is said to be a bit brittle and Elliot I think will thrive in a zone stretch, but I am still not crazy about him. I was getting high on a DE at #13, but the talent has some knocks on it.

I’m thinking the Cowboys will take Elliot. It also appears that Mile’s Jack with his Knee injury did not pass his Medical for the Giant to pick him up at #10. I would not Draft an Injured player in the 1st Round. Hargreaves or Leonard Floyd may go to the Giant. If that happens then “The Fins need to Trade for more picks?

What if the Fins kept 13th pick? But trade out 2nd round say from 43 to 53rd pick. What is that worth?
All is a possibility. A trade down in the second, from 43 to 53, would be a trade w the Redskins (which by the way I’m hoping is our trade partner in the first round). The 42nd pick is valued at 480 points and the 52nd pick is valued at 380. Redskins third round pick 84 overall is valued at 170, equaling 550 total value points. So Miami could pick up Redskins second rounder 52 overall and third rounder 84 overall and possibly a sixth rounder (16 value points) 187 overall in exchange for Miami second rounder 42 overall and Miami’s forth rounder, 107 overall (80 value points).

Thanks for the points spread of the player draft. I hear you on the Defense. I hope that we have a well balance draft, I really like for us to take a ILB who can motivate and guide our defense. I hope we draft two OLB who can cover and tackle like Pro Bowlers? and Two corners who developed into shut down corners. For the most part I see value in every round of this Draft? The 1st round should be very interesting?
Steve, I feel like this is the ideal draft for our needs and our position. I like to accumulate picks, but sooner or later you have to choose a player. Feel we have to come away w at least 1 O-Lineman if not 2, and 1 RB, possibly a TE. The rest should be spent on the defensive side of the ball (preferably on days 1 & 2).
Really looking forward to it….

…Lippet at 6’3 is ideal for the new DC’s scheme …converted WR, he played the entire last game against the Pats and more than held his own …note that Seattle’s Sherman is a converted WR
…and if there is a QB run as many think there will be, then even Tunstil could be there, not to mention Stanley …and if not, then Elliot, who is a very good pass blocker and receiver in his own right
…not to mention the trade-down possibilities that look more and more likely …if Lynch is still there at 13, the Broncos may consider paying a couple picks plus a value trade

Yeah, Lemmus. It seems like it could go well, especially if Paxton jump in early. But, there’s a risk that Miami is also in no man’s land if thing don’t fall right. That #8 spot is looking real sweet right now, so Maxwell and Alonso need to show something. But, as far as the pick, I am in vacillation mode right now. I keep thinking this player and that as the “right” one. The only player who I see as totally good, but also possibly not great is Conklin. All the other in that range have pro’s and cons. It will be interesting and I do like Lippet…the press zone at 6’3” is going to be nice. All in all, i think I feel most comfortable with a trade back…even though the smoke is saying trade up might happen.

Tony Lippett was on my 2015 draft list hopefuls. The problems Joe Philbin left with the Dolphins was “too many undeveloped players, nor are we aware of their talents. Lippet’s talents was not used?, Same as the Run Game last season not used? I’m Hoping the best this season, I really like Gase approached with this team.

Did Tony catch A pass for the Dolphins last season? Did Tony received true Corner Back Coaching? We can draft every year But without proper Development its a losing battle? Another way to help the development is having A Pro Bowl ILB to lead this defense need to draft on3 of the top 5? Offensively We need two strong QB’s. Some QB’s can do more with 2.5 to 3 second than some QB’s can do with 5 good second’s. The PAT’s won 1st 10 games last season and they are playing to Win this season! We cannot go into Battle without having not drafted a potential starting QB’s who can lead and throw down field easily.

The return game can’t be overstated. Field position is critical, especially in close games, and having a great return specialist can make all the difference.
Which is why we’re giving some special teams love to the top return men in college football.
Had John Ross III not been ruled out for the 2015 season with a knee injury, he easily would have placed toward the top of this list. Instead, we’ll give him his own category. Ross deserves recognition for what he’s done and what he could do again, but he won’t be able to show it off this season.

My fingers are cross that he does fall to the Fins! Many Fans have to realized that within the NFL who wants to see the Dolphins play on Prime time TV? Over a Decade’s we have been an embarrassment when playing prime time Games. “We have not earned this Time” Even the Owner is keeping the Dolphins away from the stadium with the excuse of the heat? (That’s not Valid? What about all the high schools, Middle Schools, Pee Wee league’s etc., The Cane’s battle every season here? I’m not buying that? So! If we can bring A Star to South Beach why would some Fans Block that?
