Day 3 Update of Training Camp
Day 3 of the Miami Dolphins training camp had the Turk send one man packing.
It’s day 3 of training camp, and the Miami Dolphins are back at it again.
Arian Foster has quickly been taken off the PUP list and was on the practice field today running plays with the offense. This was a nice sign that his injury “should be” behind him, and it was just a case of the Dolphins being overly cautious with their new offensive toy.
On the Offensive line Albert was given the day off, and Laremy Tunsil was used as the starting Left Guard. So once again, things are heading in the right direction for Tunsil, and the coaches are just slowly moving him along into a position with the starting offensive lineup.
Cameron Wake showed his presence today, being used mainly on third down pass rushing situations. He appears to definitely still has his explosiveness. If Miami plans to keep this trend going of using Wake predominately on passing downs, then this may actually keep Wake fresher for longer throughout the season. This could turn out to be a very smart strategy in terms of getting the most out of Wake this year.
Byron Maxwell continues to impress. He seems very comfortable with how the Dolphins are using him schematically. Besides providing very tight coverage so far, he has also been very productive at slapping away some would be receptions. If Maxwell can return to his Seattle Seahawks form, then this should at least give the best pay per head fans some confidence that he should be able to hold his own side of the field down. The other side of the field is going to be crap shoot with Lippett and Howard battling for the starting spot – although Howard’s injury could very well make it Lippett who starts the season by default…
…Although, Howard was doing a lot of rehab work today, and what was especially encouraging was that fact that he was not wearing a knee brace of any kind. He should be on the field practicing in no time, and then we will get a much better idea of which player will be playing on the other side of Maxwell.
Day 3 of camp was the last day without full contact.
Two other players that stood out were Chris McCain, and Leonte Carroo. McCain has showed some quickness so far in camp, however, he still has not done enough to get himself considered into the conversation of being anything more than a depth player. Carroo has looked pretty smooth with his routes for a Rookie. Even though he is going to be in a tough battle for the third wide receiver position with Stills, he should still be able to carve himself out a decent amount of snaps this season.
The last bits of news was: the Dolphins signed FA CB Brandon Harris, and waived CB Tyler Patmon; Bobby McCain, activated from PUP Saturday, practiced for the first time today and took first-team snaps at slot cornerback; and Dion Jordan was placed on the non-football injury list due to a knee problem and won’t collect the 1.7 million dollar signing bonus.
As far a Jordan goes, he is recovering from knee surgery due to an injury received in a private workout and should be back within a couple of weeks.
Tomorrow’s day of camp starts full contact – it should get very interesting, very fast. Go Fins!!!
What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about training camp so far?
Hey just curious if you have any news on Tyler Gray out of Boise State. I know he got drafted as a free agent, just curious as he was a stud for Boise…
Hmmm not sure Phil…I’ll check to see what became of him and give you the heads up.
Yeah, Jordan is big too 275…not too big given he is almost 6’7”…but, he seems like a more distant hope than before…never know though. Ohh and they are saying no to the bonus, so he will come very cheap this season if he sticks!!!
…not what I was hoping to hear re Jordan …if he returns shortly does he still collect the roster bonus? …this team needs him to earn his money this season or can him and move on …but if he takes a LB starting job and delivers, the fins defence could be a lot stronger
