The big rush of the free agency period has already passed, and Miami took the path of keeping its own players, and not overpay for other team’s players this offseason.
While most free bookie software fans would agree that the Miami Dolphins did an admirable job of filling some needs, they still Miami need a strong infusion of talent on Defense and Offensive Guard.
The good news is that the 2017 NFL Draft is now officially a month away, with the first round kicking off on Thursday, April 27th.
Below is the list of picks that the Dolphins currently hold in each round of the upcoming 2017 Draft:

The Dolphins were fortunate to be awarded 3 compensatory picks this upcoming draft which were able to replace some of the picks that Miami had previously traded away. Miami needs to continue to build this team with young talent and they will have 7 total draft pick choices that can help them do this. Most draft pundits are saying this is one of the best drafts for Defensive Ends and Line Backers in the past decade, which is excellent for Miami because that is exactly what they are in need of

Miami’s head honchos have stated numerous times that they are going to have a defense-heavy draft. However, Miami has also said that they will be drafting the best player available, so if there happens to be another Tunsil type fall in the draft, then Miami may very well pounce on a player. (Offensive Tackle Cam Robinson could be one of those players; he is sliding down draft boards due to a marijuana and gun possession charge.)
Miami needs to pick wisely and if they can add 3 starters, then this draft can be considered a success. Miami has had mixed results over the years, but they also have struck gold in later rounds and undrafted rookies. I’m not the expert but Are there any better within those picks?
I think there is no way we pick a S (Peppers) or a G (Lamp) in the first round. There is the possibility they get a CB if someone of the high rated ones slip to 22 but the priority right now is a pure LB or an Edge rusher or a DE/DT like Malik McDowell. I hope they set their eyes on a G in the third round but the first two picks must give two defense starters for the next 10 years. They will get Lamp only if they fall in panick because all the guys they wanted in the first round are gone (REddick,McDowell,Davis).

Frantz… I agree, but I think they might have lamp fall to them, but I don’t think they’ll go that route. Like you, I see them going for DE / LB / DT / Cb before a G. And, I too see the going G in 3rd and beyond, but I see the 5th as the time they get s G’s. Not sure if I agree with that being the right move…but, great FO’s will grab G’s late and make them work. Are we there? I hope. We’ll see soon enough, brother.

2017 NFL Draft: Senior Bowl star Jordan Willis studies Cameron Wake tape.
MOBILE, Ala. — Kansas State defensive end Jordan Willis has broken down tape of every starting defensive end in the NFL and his favorite pass rusher is Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake.
The Dolphins need an injection of youthful defensive ends and Willis should be on their radar, especially if he is available in the second round of April’s NFL Draft.
Willis says he has spent up to five hours in a single day studying the moves of defensive players like Wake, J.J. Watt, Khalil Mack, Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware.
“The reason why I watch those guys is they are always around the football,” Willis said after a Senior Bowl practice. “They’ve got good takeoff. They set up their moves. And they’re explosive.”
Willis creates quarterback pressures but also is a solid run defender. Miami needs more players who can do both.
Earlier in the week, Willis spoke about how his long strides may make it appear at times that he is not providing the same spark as a player with shorter legs, but that he is capable of making game-turning plays in any system, including the Wide Nine scheme the Dolphins use.
Some interesting scenarios in the first 3 rounds for Miami here. Someone that is thinking like I am when it comes to Sydney Jones. Lemmus, you won’t like it, no guard taken in the first 3 rounds because Forrest was gone at 22.

…Tunsil literally fell into our arms …no one gets points
…Howard has not shown the ability to separate himself enough from his own position competition, much less injuries, as yet to justify the 2nd round pick he cost …that in my book, is a burnt pick …maybe he will, maybe he won’t, but so far he just hasn’t …negative points
…Caroo cost us this year’s 3rd and 4th round picks and couldn’t even get on the field because of our current starters …that’s the very definition of a wasted pick …huge negative points
…now I ask you, in hindsight, why is anyone placing any confidence in this FO’s ability to deliver better results this year?

Did I miss something???? UUUMMM = PLAYOFFS!!!! As I recall Tunsil obviously had a part to do with that (say what you want, they could have passed on Tunsil at 13 like the 12 teams before them did, like the previous regimes would have)

There is 3 ROOKIES that were drafted by this F.O. that each had a part in Miami’s playoff run. I get that most of you may see Carroo as a bust, don’t jump ship after one year, especially when he was coming into one of the top WR groups in the league (Laundry, Stills, Parker), I mean what did people expect there? If Carroo started in the group (oh wait, he did start week 1 @ Seattle, and oh yea he did score the difference making TD vs 49ers) he would have been the steal of the draft. If there is no progress this season, OK, then again he is trying to crack one of the top WR groups in the league.
Let us not forget about Pitts or Lucas whom filled in and kept the ship afloat while players were dropping like flies.
IMO Howard is going to be every bit the player we drafted him to be. This level is a bit demanding, and it takes some a little experience to know how to play/act/prepare as a professional. Howard had flashes of brilliance, such as: holding Brandon Marshall to 1 reception on 11 attempts, not a fluke!!!
I don’t think they killed the draft, however I do think they had a successful draft after 1 year of service, with more to come.
I feel a trade of some sort this coming draft, rather it be a player or a pick(s). Either way we could have done worst in ’16 and I am not doubting this F.O. at least for one more draft.

Yeah, I agree as well. Overall I have liked what they have done, but the draft has been their weakest link in the chain. That needs to change fast and strong in the right direction. I do think Carroo will develop…not sure he’ll be worth what was paid though.

Another line backer we have not discussed and Lee one again Lee could be a steal day two.
Davis’s coverage abilities, provided he’s healthy, could make him the next best thing to Foster, the runaway No. 1 linebacker prospect this year. Davis can be matched up against backs or tight ends and hold his own.
Lee was among the most notable combine snubs. He had 110 tackles this past season, and he’s well-rounded enough to be counted on for all three downs in the NFL.
It will be very interesting on how they pick. I’m thinking they will grab a G late… I’d like to believe they’d grab Lamp or Feeney early, I see they going more impact. Not sure they go G early as most of them need grooming for a year or two and they want instant impact with the 1st.
I really think Lee will be an upgrade.
There are four potential Day 2 linebackers in this class. Raekwon McMillan from Ohio State is a solid, reliable field general with good instincts in run defense. In my grading system, there is very little separating Jarrad Davis, Anthony Walker, and Elijah Lee. All three are chase-and-run linebackers who make plays in pursuit. They can also hold their own in coverage, especially Kansas State’s Lee, who plays really well in space and has the speed to stick with athletic tight ends downfield.
2 starters would not be all bad depending how the other picks develop or don’t. If we take Forrest at 22, that may be our only day 1 starter from the draft unless we hit pay dirt and get another starter or 2 on defense. There won’t (most likely) be a day 1 starter on the defensive side after round 1 unless Davis (Fla. LBer) falls to 54.
That is another reason why I am feeling a trade down. In a perfect world we would trade back to 33 with the Browns and get their second (33) and third (65) round picks. At 33 we should be able to land 1 of 3 LBers still on the board (Reddick, Watt, Davis), grab our guard (Feeney, Dawkins, Asiata) at 54 unless Willis – DE, K-State is there. Use the first of the 2 third round picks to grab Sydney Jones, CB Wash, (I know I’ve mentioned this to many times, but it makes perfect sense for Miami and their CB situation), use the second third round pick on DT, TE, or best player available.
Exactly 1 month away for the draft. I have that Friday off, I will be in Upstate NY at my local Pub w a handful of others watching the draft develop. Should we trade back and not have a day 1 pick at all, though that is what I want to happen, I will be disappointed at the same time. As much as I like the draft, I am going out of my to watch it because our Fins we (may) be on the clock at some point!!!
Those are very good picks. Originally I felt let’s get the defense 1st! This would be ideal but we have kick the can season after season without fixing the line.
Another scenario if Lamb is off the board by 19th lets trade back take Feeney in the second take another lineman with 54th.
Hopefully we would gain another 3rd pick?
I’m not convinced 100% we should over looked the defense at 22nd and 54th pick.

I can understand taking a O-Lineman at 22, but imo there is no way we take 2 consecutive O-Lineman, especially in the first and second rounds. I actually feel a trade back, possibly getting an extra third giving us 2 two’s and 2 three’s. With those 3 hoping for a LBer, Guard, CB (Sydney Jones), DE, most likely in that order.
Hey, again been running hard at work and missed this one: don’t see a linemen until 3rd and more likely the 5th. I see DL and LB for the first 3 picks… but I’m no draft expert, but I think they want seasoned, man strengthed vets running the interior… Larsen, Urbick and Bushrod are those kinda guys… I see them grabbing two in the fifth.

…there are several teams ahead of and behind us that have just as bad a need for Guards, LBs, and DEs
…the OL depth in this draft is poor such that if they don’t get a starting guard in the 1st, they are unlikely to get a starter …ie if we pass on Lamp or Feeny at 22 then GB will likely take him …doubt that a starting caliber Guard will fall to 54 …and this franchise’s record of OL picks in lower rounds is abysmal …and that’s putting it mildly
…the QB take in the 1st will impact what falls to 22 …even though no QB is rated as a top 10 pick so far, there are several teams in desperate need that may push as many as 3, possibly 4, QBs into the 1st …if so, our pick at 22 will be a wild card
…FA is still open …if Brown signs its unlikely that we will double down on another LB in rounds 1-3, if not then 1-2 is almost a certainty
…if D Jordan is still on the April roster then I think Gase sees him as a prospect at OLB or DE and that will impact draft priorities
…if both Brown and Jordan are on the roster, then G/DT/S/CB will likely be the 1-3 picks depending on bpa at those positions …I just don’t see us in a situation to afford drafting for bpa without regard to position
…with Tannenbaum’s penchant for dealing, I’d not be surprised to see those 3 5ths used to move up somewhere along the line
I like the pick up today as a nice gamble, but they must get 2 starters from this draft… at least, or I will be disappointed. A starting G and a SLB and / or DE. If they nail three the third doesn’t need to start, but be of the caliber to start.
