2021 Phins Disaster Has No End in Sight

The Phins disaster of a 2021 Season could keep getting worse

This season started with such hope! Even most of the sports betting software websites were predicting the Miami Dolphins to be a real playoff contender this year!  However, this season has turned into a nightmare with Miami losing 7 straight games with the third worst record in football. The steep regression was unimaginable this offseason… but here we are.

To add insult to injury, the Dolphins can’t even capitalize on their terrible record by gaining the current 3rd pick in the draft because they traded it away to the Eagles to move up and select Jaylen Waddle.

Too bad Miami didn’t take Herbert last year, Chase this year, and either Swift, Taylor or Harris at running back! Wow, that would have been some three headed monster to build off for years to come. Instead the Dolphins are staring at another hard reset and rebuild. This time though they won’t even have the luxury of additional draft picks to soften the blow.

Chris Grier must go… no ifs, ands, or buts!

Clearly, Grier needs to be fired after this year! Since Miami likes trying out of the box things, and is already been the laughing stock of the NFL for decades, maybe they make a contest like the Apprentice for the next GM of Miami! They should add some diehard fans a chance to apply as well.

Sure this sounds like a joke, but isn’t that what this franchise has become? Just about anyone that reads this blog could have made better draft selections over the past decade then the actual organization has made. So maybe this isn’t as crazy as it sounds.

With the trade deadline fast approaching Miami should look to dump some talent that will not be around for the next rebuild. Might as well get some draft picks for it, regardless if we don’t have someone capable of using them. Some prime candidates would be Parker, Wilson, Howard, Byron Jones, Preston Williams, Ogbah, Wilkins, and even Gesicki.

I hate to put Gesicki on the list and would love for Miami to re-sign him. But they re-signed Sanders and Baker before their contracts were up… yet they didn’t do the same with Gesicki. He is a better player than both… but, that’s the type of logic we work with in Miami. Gesicki has improved each season and is arguably one of the Top 5-10 Tight ends in the league. If Gesicki were locked up in a long term contract, you could argue he has the potential to become one of, and if not the best tight end in Miami Dolphins franchise history. Also, Miami actually drafted this player, so considering their lack of success with drafting players, it should be a no brainer to keep Gesicki around.

So, if they don’t plan to re-sign him after the season, they might as well trade him now to at least get something for him.

To their credit, there still some life in the team

The Dolphins showed some improvement on defense against the Bills. This team hasn’t quit… not yet and that’s a credit to the players and Flores. Problem is this team is in way over it’s head on so many levels that effort isn’t enough.

When it counted the most at the end of the game, the Bills final 4 drives ended in points. Sorry, but you are not going to win many games with a defense that allows that to end the game. Also, this defense is horrendous on third and longs, it’s almost like the opposing offense has us just where they want us when it’s down and distance, and then they throw an easy and wide open pass to convert the first time.

That’s the way it’s been all season, though.

Hopefully, Miami can at least win a few games this season, just so they don’t gift the Eagles with a Top 3 draft pick in 2022. Sad that this is what we are left to root for!
