A look back at Day 3 of Mini-camp: Bad day for the Offense
The Dolphins set up a scrimmage type practice for their third day of mini-camp, and this time it was the defense that excelled, and in particular, the defensive line, which most football gambling fans would say is the heart and soul of this team. Jared Odrick is still sidelined with an undisclosed injury, and he was joined by Derrick Shelby and Koa Misi. It does not appear to be anything serious, but it will be worth keeping an eye on.
The Phins defensive line ended the day with 7 sacks, 2 each from Olivier Vernon, and Garrison Smith. I have been recently talking about all the encouraging signs that I have been seeing from mini-camp, and I will say this is obviously not one of them. The Dolphins spent this off-season investing in remodeling the offensive line, and the 7 sacks in a scrimmage are not what football betting software fanatics were hoping for. Sure it was only a scrimmage, and our defensive line is loaded with talented players, but the offensive line needs to begin to gel as a unit and start protecting Tannehill.
Tannehill finished the scrimmage going 17 out of 25 for 189 yards and 1 touchdown pass to Armon Binns. Those are respectable stats, however, the 7 sacks with most on 3rd down, needs to be addressed and fixed if the Dolphins and Tannehill want to have a potent high scoring offense. One side note is that Tannehill and Wallace are 4 out of 6 so far on the deep ball at camp. Jarvis Landry had a quietly productive day catching 5 passes for 67 yards. For all the naysayers that cursed this pick, Landry appears to be the gem of this 2014 draft class so far and is already beginning to develop chemistry with Tannehill. My prediction is that Landry will become our next Davone Bess in third-down situations, and unlike Bess, Landry has an elusive quickness that can pick up yards after the catch.

Again, we still need to wait until the pads come on to get a better idea of how each unit is progressing, but as most of us are obsessed with Phins fans, we tend to look for any piece of news we can get and over analyze it. The Phins will have plenty of ups and downs in practice, but that is what practice for, and most importantly it is exciting to see our boys on the field working to get better, and hopefully make us proud this upcoming season.
