Achane Carries the Day as Tua Struggles

The Miami Dolphins got the win they desperately needed — but it didn’t come as easy as expected witha 21-17 nailbiter. This was one of Tua’s roughest outings in recent memory and it was De’Von Achane who again had to play equal parts lightning bolt and life raft to drag Miami across the finish line.

The victory keeps the Dolphins technically alive in the playoff hunt, but it also magnifies a growing concern: Can Miami no longer rely on its quarterback?

While the main concern was Tua’s health entering this season, now his play share’s center stage.

The good news is the Dolphins have an elite running back, unfortunately they may also have a quarterback who is at the end of the line.

Dolphins won, but might be losing their high-priced QB

Tua’s timing was off. The accuracy — normally his greatest weapon — evaporated for long stretches. Turnover-worthy plays piled up, drives stalled, and Miami’s offense looked stuck in the mud every time they leaned on their quarterback to make the big throw. These weren’t just off moments, they were momentum killers. You can bet with the best pay per head that the Dolphins needed more command from Tua; instead, they got confusion.

It wasn’t all Tua’s fault; the offensive line was terrible with terrible efficiency rating and pressure allowed.

Considering the floor for a good efficiency is 98% on all pass sets (red left) and 96% on True Pass Sets, where no help is offered, (blue right), this O-line was terrible in pass protection.

Now, this doesn’t excuse Tua because his worst moments came through bad decisions that were his and his alone.

Achane is the Phins Superman

Thankfully, Achane was electric.

Every time he touched the ball, the offense snapped back to life. The vision, the burst, the effortless ability to erase angles — Achane didn’t just move the chains, he stabilized a team teetering on the edge of another disappointment. When Tua sputtered, Achane surged. When the passing game bogged down, Achane broke through. He was the spark, the anchor, and the bailout plan all in one.

And that’s the problem.

A win is a win, but this game highlighted a troubling truth: Miami is being held afloat by everyone except the quarterback. For a team fighting for its season and their future, that’s not where you want to be.

The Dolphins are still alive in the playoff chase — mathematically, but hope for this season is a long shot at best.

Still, this win matters. It keeps their heartbeat detectable. It gives fans a reason to care next week. It fuels at least the possibility of a run. But the real focus and hope must be focused on the future, and Achane is certainly part of it. Is Tua? Likely not.

Go Phins!!!
