Albert Wilson Restructures His Contract
Albert Wilson made his contract more palatable
I was interested in seeing how the contract of Albert Wilson would play out over the offseason. Well, the answer came today! Wilson agreed to restructure his contact from $10.8 million for 2020 to a more team-friendly base salary of $3 million with $1 million in incentives and will now be a free agent next year. Miami does get his services this year and saves a whopping $6 million in cap space! And, with Wilson in a contract year, he’ll have extra incentive to be productive.
Many Free Bookie Software providers bet that Wilson would be a cap casualty by the start of free agency. However, when the Dolphins didn’t add any receivers in the draft, Wilson’s value rose. Miami releasing Wilson would have been risky with Williams coming off serious surgery. This new contract is an all-around win for the Dolphins.
Wilson could be a wildcard in Gailey’s system
Wilson had a bad hip injury in his first year with the Dolphins in 2018. Though not as bad as the one Tua had, it was severe enough to limit him for almost a year. While Wilson was able to play in a limited role in early 2019, his best attribute of speed wasn’t there. However, as the 2019 Season progressed, Wilson slowly regained his health and speed.
In the last 3 games of the season, Wilson had 17 catches for 197 yards and no touchdowns. Compared with his full-season stats of 43 catches for 351 yards and 1 touchdown, it’s obvious Wilson was finding his rhythm in Coach Flores’s offense.
Wilson should be 100% healthy for the 2020 season. If so, there’s a good chance he’ll return to being the home run hitter who can take any play to the house.
Wilson will most likely be the #3 receiver behind Parker and Williams, fighting for snaps with Hurns, Grant, and Ford. On paper, this is the Phins’ biggest position of strength. You can bet that Chan Hailey will get this offense to play to their strengths with a heavy dose of the passing game.
Chris Grier has handled the Cap situation very well
Wilson’s big pay cut of $6 million is another feather in the cap of Chris Grier. There was a lot of talk about FAs choosing Miami because they wanted to play for Coach Flores. Maybe Wilson giving up money can be chalked up to the charisma of the Phins Head Coach Brian Flores? May Wilson believe Flores will use him the right way so he can get a big payday?
I’m glad Wilson here this season because if he stays healthy, he’ll be quite the weapon for the Phins offense.

Excellent deal! Says a lot about Wilson’s desire to take a pay cut and be a “team” player! On a sadder note, so sorry to hear about Shula’s passing. He was 90 and did battle health problems in the later part of his life. A great coach and an even greater person! Shula had character, faith, and football smarts. He changed the way the game is played today! I was hoping he could hang on for a few more years and see the team’s resurgence to relevance and competitiveness. He will be greatly missed!!
I agree. And Grier are Flores is looking better and better. If they can just make hay with this draft, Stephen! Ohh, boy! Shula dying has really bothered me. Just such a fixture of my youth and the foundations of my mindset. As I get older, that whole ear is slowly disappearing…and in truth, it’s not being replaced with the same quality. Sad.
I do see Flores being cut from the same clothe in personality… I really like him and hope he ends up legit.
