Another Strong Option at Wide Receiver

There has been a tremendous amount of speculation about what Miami may do with their first round pick, ranging from trading up, trading back, or staying put and selecting a WR, G, CB, LB, or even a DT. Basically anything is possible for what the Miami Dolphins may do in the first round, and even the entire draft. One other possibility is that the top three receivers in the draft, White, Cooper and Parker, may all get selected before the Dolphins even have the chance to think about selecting them.

If the Dolphins do have their hearts set on one of those top three receivers, which most sports gambling fans believe they do, and they are already off the board then the phins may opt to select a player from a different position and then use their second round pick on a wide receiver. Even if those three players are on the board, Miami still may decide to select another player and wait until the second round to draft a wide receiver.

A strong possibility for the Dolphins second round pick could be Jaelen Strong, the wide receiver from Arizona State. He is 6’2”, 217 pounds, ran the 40 in 4.44 seconds and is currently projected as a 1st or 2nd round draft choice. Strong is big, physical, quick and has the potential to be a lethal redzone target, which is something that Miami is hoping to find in this draft. In 2014 he had 82 catches for 1,165 yards and 10 touchdowns, and 2013 he had 75 catches for 1,122 yards and 7 touchdowns even though during that season he had some nagging injuries that he played through.

Strong has all the tools and assets to be a very productive receiver in this league, and more importantly for the Dolphins he would provide another big bodied target for Tannehill. At the moment the Dolphins biggest receiver is Rishard Matthews (6’0” 215 pounds). Their number 1 and 2 receivers at the moment are both smaller; Kenny Stills (6’0” 194 pounds) and Jarvis Landry (5’11” 202 pounds). The Dolphins fortunately do have two big tight ends in Jordan Cameron (6’5” 249 pounds) and Dion Sims (6’4” 265 pounds), but they definitely need a bigger bodied starting wide receiver, and Strong would fit the bill.

Depending on how the draft shakes out, and what Miami does with the number 14th selection, Jaelen could be a Strong possibility in the second round or even at the end of the first round if Miami does decide to trade back. What do the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans think about drafting Strong, if we do not draft one of the three top rated receivers in the draft?

Find will select WR at #14 or trade down and select WR but WR it will be in 1st round.

I’m feeling that if Parker is not there at 14, they will be trading down and grab a WR later in round one (maybe Green-Beckham, Strong, Agholor, Perriman). I’d be all for this scenario.

Jimmy, I do like Strong. With the recent news that has come out about him having a fractured bone in his wrist, does that change his draft status? I would think that he drops to the second round now for sure. I don’t think we wait till the second round to grab a WR. He could be a steal for someone, and maybe that someone could be the Fins!!!

I agree he will drop but he could be a steal in the third round for someone and that could be us

I still think we oughta trade down and get another pick wether in the second or third round
Our first 3 picks should be offense : RB, WR, and guard
We can afford to get defense later because of the CB we just signed and the re signing of our safety

One of our first three picks if not 2 of the first 3 needs to be a LBer or CB if the right one is there. There will be one or two of the top 4 mike LBers available in the second round, would be a great fit. There are CBs that will be available in the second as well. I agree w/trading down for extra picks, but not in the first round if one of the top 4 WRs are there (White, Cooper, Parker, Perriman).

I think our top three picks are going to be WR, LB and Guard, not in any particular order

  • We have to look at another offensive lineman, but if we intend on being contenders in this league and especially in our division, I will say it all day long we need a running game! With a great offensive line like Dallas and the Patriots we need a great running back!! Many of the comments on this site keep looking at safeties, linebackers and corners, and WO. Everyone of us know the last time we were champions we had A great running attack, along with one great WO and above average talent in our receiving core. I will say it again and again we need to block for Tannihill and get him a great running back like Todd Gurley, Resign NM, and get the best tight-end from the draft IE A blocker with great hands!!! We have done well in free agency so far. Look at Buffalos running back!! The Vikings Running back, and the Seahawks. If we don’t make the playoffs it will be because of our offensive line and the a lack of a running game. The draft is long on receivers this year, Our team needs to build for 2016-2017. If we can bolster our offense and build on our defense for the next two years we will start a CHAMIONSHIP TEAM for years to come.

Last itme we were champions,,,,, were any of us alive???? The Patriots have never had a dominate running game, and that includes last year when they won it. Yes, Blount gave them an added boost, but he was not a dominate runner. Serviceable RBs can be found in the later rounds, even game changing RBs. Offensive guards can be had in later rounds, mike LBers can be had in later rounds. Not so w/a #1 WR, when you have an opportunity to get a true #1, especially when you need one, you have to to advantage.

    • Amen to that, Dan! Everyone keeps talking about how the Patriots don’t have a great running game, well, as long as Brady is their franchise passer, they don’t need a big running game. However, a dominant ground game is just what the Dolphins need to make all facets of the offense better, including the passing game. Beef up the O-line and draft a beast at running back to compliment Miller and, IMO, they are definite playoff contenders.
