Another Strong Option at Wide Receiver

There has been a tremendous amount of speculation about what Miami may do with their first round pick, ranging from trading up, trading back, or staying put and selecting a WR, G, CB, LB, or even a DT. Basically anything is possible for what the Miami Dolphins may do in the first round, and even the entire draft. One other possibility is that the top three receivers in the draft, White, Cooper and Parker, may all get selected before the Dolphins even have the chance to think about selecting them.

If the Dolphins do have their hearts set on one of those top three receivers, which most sports gambling fans believe they do, and they are already off the board then the phins may opt to select a player from a different position and then use their second round pick on a wide receiver. Even if those three players are on the board, Miami still may decide to select another player and wait until the second round to draft a wide receiver.

A strong possibility for the Dolphins second round pick could be Jaelen Strong, the wide receiver from Arizona State. He is 6’2”, 217 pounds, ran the 40 in 4.44 seconds and is currently projected as a 1st or 2nd round draft choice. Strong is big, physical, quick and has the potential to be a lethal redzone target, which is something that Miami is hoping to find in this draft. In 2014 he had 82 catches for 1,165 yards and 10 touchdowns, and 2013 he had 75 catches for 1,122 yards and 7 touchdowns even though during that season he had some nagging injuries that he played through.

Strong has all the tools and assets to be a very productive receiver in this league, and more importantly for the Dolphins he would provide another big bodied target for Tannehill. At the moment the Dolphins biggest receiver is Rishard Matthews (6’0” 215 pounds). Their number 1 and 2 receivers at the moment are both smaller; Kenny Stills (6’0” 194 pounds) and Jarvis Landry (5’11” 202 pounds). The Dolphins fortunately do have two big tight ends in Jordan Cameron (6’5” 249 pounds) and Dion Sims (6’4” 265 pounds), but they definitely need a bigger bodied starting wide receiver, and Strong would fit the bill.

Depending on how the draft shakes out, and what Miami does with the number 14th selection, Jaelen could be a Strong possibility in the second round or even at the end of the first round if Miami does decide to trade back. What do the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans think about drafting Strong, if we do not draft one of the three top rated receivers in the draft?
