Armstrong BACK: Because Who Needs Good Coverage?

In what can only be described as ‘desperate’, the Miami Dolphins have signed cornerback Cornell Armstrong, who has been sitting on the sidelines since 2022. Yes, you read that correctly—Armstrong, who hasn’t seen the field in nearly two full seasons and is now part of the Dolphins’ defense. Surely, this is the kind of roster move that makes the Dolphins’ playoff hopes even more… optimistic?

How Chris Grier is this move?

Did I take my crazy pills today?

Let’s take a moment to celebrate this signing for all the right reasons—Armstrong’s impressive tenure as a Dolphins and NFL player. After all, what could be more reassuring than adding a player with absolutely no professional reps in over two years? It’s not like we need players who have been actively playing in the league and developing their skills over the last couple of years, right?

Why bring in a proven commodity when you can opt for the long-untested mystery box?

In Armstrong’s defense, his last real taste of action was with the Houston Texans in 2022, where he had a total of one tackle. Yes, that’s right—one. Clearly, his one tackle made such a lasting impact that the Dolphins couldn’t resist bringing him on board.

Brilliant!

Alright, let’s get semi-serious.

This is a move born out of being totally broke, we know now just how screwed we are financially. It’s clear that we won’t be adding the Rasul Douglas’ of the world this season. Not that he’s a great add, but it would have been a lot better than Armstrong.

This means its Ethan Bonner, Strom Duck, Jason Marshall Jr., and Kadar Kohou or bust this season.

I trust Kohou the most, but you still need at least two more players to step up big. Bonner, Duck, and/or Marshall Jr. need to take sizable steps forward this season or we could have a disastrous secondary.

That’s asking a lot!

Then there’s injuries.

IF we get even one injury, then we are digging into the C- squad and that still depends on getting huge growth from a rookie and two UDAFs. Three if you include Kohou. If this somehow pans out it will be one of the most brilliant things I’ve witnessed. But the smart bet with the best pay per head is this won’t end well.

I’m not going to say it won’t…just yet–I guess I’m clinging with a dead man’s grip to the hopium of the offseason for a little longer.

This has to be one of the most Dolphins moves of all-time.

Welcome back, Cornell! Let’s hope this time off has sharpened your skills… or, at the very least, your ability to warm the bench. Go Phins!!!
