Atlanta Game: 1st Real Look At Phins & Flores

This game isn’t the end all be all, but it’s a good glimpse at the reality of Flores & Phins 2019

Head Coach Brian Flores will coach the Phins in their first preseason game of the 2019 tomorrow at 7:30p in Miami against the Atlanta Falcons. As a veteran team in their 2nd preseason game (they played in the annual Hall of Fame game last week), the Falcons could make this one messy if the Dolphins aren’t prepared.

This matchup will be an excellent gauge as to how prepared Brian Flores and his staff are.

Beyond this, there will be a ton to look forward to in this game. The immediate focus is on the QB battle between Fitzpatrick and Rosen.  Last week Flores said that ‘Fitzpatrick was leading the QB competition’. Fitzpatrick is listed as the starter going into the game–for whatever that’s worth. But, Flores also said that Rosen has shown steady improvement. Live-action will reveal where these two QBs really stack up against each other.

While Fitzpatrick will be the starter on Thursday, Rosen may end up getting more reps. Even though the staff should have a good idea where Rosen really is already, this will give fans a more thorough evaluation of him.

Fitz may start, but Rosen will get more time

Rosen has developed excellent chemistry with undrafted Rookie WR Preston Williams. It will be a huge note if it continues in the face of live bullets.

It will be a reason to hope for the future if they do continue to blossom together.

There are plenty of other storylines to keep an eye on. Two big ones are how does the Offensive and Defensive Line hold up. The O-line, given is questionable talent level, is key to everything.

These two units are probably the biggest question marks on our team. Seeing them in action will much better clue a to where this team really is.

Other aspects Phins Fans should focus on:

• Will LB Sam Eguavoen reveal himself a practice hero or surprise starter?
• how many of these youngsters will step forward and make the roster? 
• Can this roster rebound in discipline after flag filled scrimmage?

Funny since they won’t be favored in many regular-season games this year. PFF recently predicted Miami to win less than 3 games in 2019! The Dolphins are currently a -3.5 point favorite and the sharp money is actually on the Dolphins to win and cover this spread. 

Wins and losses are taken with a grain of salt in the preseason. However, there’s no denying that Coach Flores will be better-served to start his tenure off in Miami on a positive note. Either way, it will be exciting to see the boys back on the field and see the direction that this season leaning.
