Austin Jackson Out on COVID I.R. WK 1?

Austin Jackson struggled in preseason and now may miss the Patriots game

It’s not known at this point whether LT Austin Jackson was put on COVID I.R. because of a positive test or through contact tracing. Either way, his status Week 1 is in jeopardy!

With six days before the 2021 kickoff against the New England Patriots, this is a big concern for the Miami Dolphins. While Jackson hasn’t played well in preseason, the Phins other options aren’t certain to be equal to Jackson, much less upgrades. Becoming a Bookie – What You Need to Know.

Davis, Eichenburg, or Little

Despite Jackson playing so poorly in preseason, he is a known commodity and has chemistry with the rest of the O-line. Jesse Davis obviously has plenty of chemistry as well…

But, Davis has been the best offensive linemen through preseason and protecting Tua’s blindside on the right side is the more critical position. So, it doesn’t make sense to move Davis. This leaves only two options: Little or Eichenburg.

Greg little was acquired in a trade with the Panthers in preseason. Little struggled hard in pass protection in 2020 with a PFF grade of 25.4 over 88 snaps! This was coming off a slightly better rookie 2020 campaign (but still poor) that produced a 59.8 pass blocking grade over 144 snaps, where he allowed 3 sack and had 3 penalties. The former 2nd Round pick has the physical tools, but much like Jackson hasn’t put it together yet. Still, he has experience against NFL pros and playing on the left side.

On the other hand, rookie Liam Eichenburg played some guard and right tackle in preseason, but hasn’t played left tackle since his last fall. He is also coming off a couple of injuries in preseason. Still, Eichenburg has three years of experience at LT as a starter at Notre Dame and could off the best option… if he is available. The injuries he suffered might still have his status as ‘don’t break unless it’s an emergency’.

Eichenburg did look good in his limited exposure against the back ups in preseason, but so did Little, who has some really nifty footwork. Unfortunately, the Patriots Edge players though are a few notches above this level of competition. Matthew Judon is a real force to handle and add in Kyle Van Noy, Chase Winovich, and Deatrich Wise Jr. and whoever plays LT will be sorely tested.

Jeanpierre & Flores we must trust

The video below made me a huge fan of new Phins OC Jeanpierre and is a must watch for Phins fans, in my opinion.

Still, Jeanpierre is a former players, bright, and forthright… that’s a perfect foundation for a coach. The offensive line and even more so the left tackle position was my prime focus for this week.
