Be Excited & Patient With ‘Tua Time’ Today

‘Tua Time’ is the center of all things Miami Dolphins

‘Tua Time’ and this offense fit like a glove

Today is a huge moment in Miami Dolphins lore with ‘Tua Time’ kicking off today. Despite being drafted 8th Overall, even Ryan Tannehill didn’t generate even near this intense excitement. Tannehill was solid in college, while Tua was amazing, so it makes perfect sense. Many Phins fans have been waiting since the retirement of Dan Marino to see an elite quarterback throw for Miami again. What’s worse, plenty of young fans that have never even once watched a special QB throw for the Dolphins. Because of this long drought, the anticipation level is understandably off the charts in South Florida. But, the fanbase must be patient with Tua and give him some time before coming to any sweeping judgments.

It takes more than talent to succeed in the NFL

The good news is the film of both Tua in 2019 and the 2020 Dolphins offense appears to be an excellent combination.

Look at Ryan Tannehill who has been fantastic with the Titans for over a year now. Where was that Tannehill when he was in Miami? The answer is simple: The Dolphins put in place the wrong offense for him to lead. Neither Joe Philbin nor Adam Gase focused on Tannehill’s strengths. Instead, they wanted him to be something he’s not…

… And Tannehill’s career floundered until he found a coach who knew how to use him correctly.

You can bet with the pay per head reviews like AcePerHead.com that Tua won’t be subject to that type of poor coaching. When you look at this offense and even how Fitzpatrick ran it, Tua fits like a glove. Still, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert who have played excellently only have one win apiece in a combined 12 games. Given Tua will have the hardest start of the three, fans must temper their wild passion with patience.

The film of ‘Tua Time’ shows he’s a good fit for this Phins offense

These last two weeks have had a ton of negative media attention, none of which was Tua’s fault. Neither Burrow or Herbert had that. Tua is starting his first game after almost a year without playing football due to his brutal hip injury. Again, neither of these issues apply to Burrow or Herbert. Tua will face the Rams who have an elite defense allowing 2nd fewest points, 6th fewest yards, and 3rd most sacks! Herbert eased in against the Jags, so he has had the easiest first start of the three.

All this extra adversity may seem negative, but if Tua can even remain afloat against the Rams, it will be a great sign. Now, if Tua thrives his first game against this defense… crack the champagne!

Keys for Phins fans this week
  1. Has Tua improved his throwing platform? If so, expect a better Tua.
  2. Fitzpatrick helped this offense a ton with his quick release and experience… Can Tua use his movement skills to offset his lack of experience and stay healthy?
  3. Tua has such a quick release that it’s in the ballpark of the great Marino. This is an under-appreciated quality that will play big in the pros.
  4. Fans must be patient and allow Tua to settle in this week. As long as he plays average and stays healthy, win or lose, this is a good scenario.
Greatness shines bright in adversity

Yes, all this extra adversity has some worried for the kid (like me). But, the truth is, this extra adversity will reveal who Tua is fast… and that’s a good thing for fans and this organization. Even if Tua just holds his composure and flashes some good with only a little bad, that’s an excellent start. As long as he doesn’t meltdown or gets hurt, fans should be very encouraged given all the weight on his shoulders.

Just don’t get let down if he doesn’t dominate.

To end on a positive note, the Rams are talented, but on a short week against a rested and more prepared Phins team… I wouldn’t be surprised if they win today or at the very least make it a close one. What an exciting moment for fans! Go Phins!!!
