Bradshaw believes in Tannehill
Over the weekend at Gulf stream Park at the Florida Derby, there was a Terry Bradshaw sighting, and the local media was looking for his thoughts about Ryan Tannehill. He said “They’re on him a little bit here, but it’s stupid, this kid’s really good, definitely impressed.” This is coming from a Hall of Fame Quarterback that won 4 Super Bowl, which doesn’t mean he has the final say on the out come of RT’s career, but it is nice to see some support for our youngster.
We have gone through too many QB’s to even start counting, since we had the legendary Dan Marino, and this kid so far has shown glimpses of being our franchise QB. Lets not forget that Tannehill only played a season and a half at the QB position for Texas A&M. He is still learning the position, and is still learning the nuances of the NFL going into his third season. However, Pay per head sites like Ace Per Head fans would say there are a lot of encouraging signs so far. First of all he is a very intelligent young man, and he is constantly being praised for his work ethic by coaches and players. His stats have improved from year 1 to year 2. In year 1 he had no weapons what so ever, if anything you can say he helped WR Brian Hartline to finally achieve his potential by producing his first 1000 yard season of his career. Then in year two the organization went out and bought him some receiving weapons, and all his major stats reflected the upgrade. Lets not also forget that he was able to out duel Tom Bray, Andrew Luck, Philip Rivers, and Ben Roethlisberger in the 4th quarter of some very nail biting games. He was able to finally out play some top tier QB’s in the league, while out the same time constantly being under siege from opposing defenses. If the Dolphins can get improved protection from their offensive line, just like they were able to get improved play from their ball catchers, then football gambling fans would bet on a huge break out year for RT.
Honestly can you imagine what Tannehill can do if he had more time to sit in the pocket, instead of running for his life every other play. To be able to be sacked 58 times, and keep getting up and being able to produce plays shows a lot of moxie. Yes, some of those sacks are definitely his fault for holding on to the ball to long, but there is no reason an intelligent you man who has a bachelor’s degree in biology and was planning to become an orthopedic surgeon, and played WR and QB for Texas A&M and set the school record for passing yards in his first career start, can not find away to solve his pocket presence issue.
Lastly, in order for him to make the next step this season, he needs to be throwing deep balls to Mike Wallace all summer. They need to be running post, flag and bomb patters all day and every day this spring and summer. If anything they should be sneaking out from their homes late at night and practicing deep patterns right now. If they can connect on half or a quarter as many as they missed last year then Dolphins will be scoring more points, winning more games, and finally be playing in a playoff game.
