The early in the off season is the perfect time for a drink of Kool-Aid
I always loved Kool-Aid and the Miami Dolphins as a kid.
Hot summer days, covered in dirt and sweat from playing all morning, made my mom’s call for lunch a treasured thing, because I knew there’d be a sandwhich with some deli-meat and cheese, pickles, a heap of chips… and of course, a big glass of ice-cube cooled Kool-Aid.
Nothing was better–seems like yesterday.
It feels like it’s been nearly as long since I had a big swig of Dolphins fan-aid. So, I’m going to embrace this recent string of good events with a glass or two of hype filled, only slightly objective, aqua-colored Kool-Aid.
First, Ryan Tannehill‘s knee is stable. It seems to have paid off that Miami’s QB is both brilliant and a student of sports medicine. Added to it some hi-tech European stem cell injections, and the Dolphins mobile signal caller will have two good wheels heading into 2017.
Can you say SWEET Potatoes!!
Reasons to drink Kool-Aid has been in short supply as of late–until now
Regardless of whether you like Tannehilll or not, he will be the Dolphins QB this season and mobility is a big piece of his game. If you like Miami wins, his ability to move, as he has in the past, will go a long way towards bringing “W’s”.
Then there is Miami compensatory picks: three of them, including the top pick of the bunch. Yeah, I’d like to have seen Miller’s pick be a bit higher, but Matthews departure earned a third pick, so I can’t complain too much.
If you think about it, Miami got back a pick for Olivier Vernon only a few spots higher than what he was drafted for. Yes, they need to make something of that pick, but didn’t I say this was a Kool-Aid post? So, of course the Real Bookies odds are in favor of us nailing a star with the pick!
Then there’s the returns for Miller and Matthews: Miller earned us a pick one round later than he was drafted and Matthews earned us a pick two rounds higher–that’s a win. Mike Tannenbaum made the right calls on all of these, especially given the amount of money laid out for all three players. This buys him a little more rope in my mind.
We saw a 7th round pick bring in a player familiar to Adam Gase. Thomas fills a need and was willing to take substantially less to play. This was more for less and another wining move. And if the Branden Albert trade goes through, then Thomas will have made it to Miami for essentially nothing–Fins up!
Add in Cameron Wake’s contract getting extended, Vance Joseph moving on, Reshad Jones being fully recovered, and Laremy Tunsil moving to his natural spot and it easy to see that Miami has been on a nice little roll of things heading in the right direction.
Man, I tell you, this little bit of Kool-Aid really tastes almost as sweet as mom’s… I defiantly could go for some more. How about you? Go Fins!!!
