Brewer Gets His Payday! Brooks Next?

Just when it seemed the Miami Dolphins’ offseason had settled down, another major domino fell. Aaron Brewer and the Dolphins agreed to a three-year, $52.5 million extension with $37 million guaranteed, making Brewer one of the highest-paid centers in football.

At first glance, that’s a lot of money.

But context matters.

The NFL is changing. Positions that were once undervalued are becoming increasingly important as teams place a renewed emphasis on running the football, protecting quarterbacks, and controlling games at the line of scrimmage. Centers capable of anchoring an offensive line while also thriving in space simply aren’t easy to find.

Brewer is one of those players.

Brewer Brings Value for the Price

While I prefer a larger, more power-oriented center, Brewer’s greatest strength has always been his movement skills. Whether he’s climbing to the second level, reaching linebackers in outside zone, or leading screens, few centers in football move the way he does. His athleticism is rare, and his leadership, durability, and character have become important pillars of Miami’s locker room.

You can bet with the best pay per head that doesn’t mean he’s perfect.

Brewer’s biggest challenge has always been handling power in tight quarters and creating movement on certain inside runs. But I think that if he’s paired with guards who can consistently win at the point of attack, Brewer found himself tied up instead of doing what he does best — getting free and making plays in space.

Kayden Proctor certainly fits the bill.

The arrival of massive rookie tackle Kayden Proctor could dramatically alter the equation. Proctor brings the kind of size, strength, and physicality that can help keep defenders occupied and allow Brewer to operate more freely. If Miami gets quality play from the right side as well, the Dolphins may unlock the best version of Brewer we’ve seen yet.

That’s a key reason the contract makes sense.

Elite centers aren’t readily available, and replacing a player like Brewer would likely cost nearly as much while introducing significant risk. Miami believes it can win now, and teams with championship aspirations don’t willingly create holes along the offensive line.

IS Jordyn Brooks Next Up for a Pay Day?

The bigger question now may be what Brewer’s deal means for linebacker Jordan Brooks.

Brooks has become one of the most important players on Miami’s defense, helping stabilize a unit that desperately needed leadership and consistency. Compared to many linebackers earning significantly more money around the league, Brooks’ current contract looks like a steal, and he might feel like he’s getting robbed.

The Dolphins have already rewarded De’Von Achane. They’ve now rewarded Aaron Brewer.

Jordan Brooks appears to be the final member of what many fans view as Miami’s core trio.

Will he play with zero guaranteed money in 2027 and bargin-bin paycheck for his talents?

If the Dolphins truly believe they can contend over the next several seasons, keeping Brooks may be the next logical step. There is risk involved with any linebacker entering his thirties, but there is also risk in letting proven, productive players walk away.

More importantly, Miami’s new leadership group continues to do something fans have been asking for: identifying players they believe in and acting accordingly.

Brewer’s extension wasn’t cheap.

It may not be the last big check the Dolphins write this offseason.

But, if they want to not be cellar dwellers this season, they’ll pay Brooks next.

Go Phins!!!
