Achane avoided a major injury, can the Phins run game roll until he returns?
The Miami Dolphins look to go an impressive 5-1 this weekend against the winless Carolina Panthers if they don’t overlook this terrible team. The Panthers are bad… really bad and are the only team in the NFL without a win at 0-5. However, we all know how unpredictable the NFL is and how on any given Sunday even an awful team like the Panthers can come up with a shocking victory. Now, I don’t think for a minute they will upset the Dolphins, but the question I have is how good with the rushing attack be without Devon Achane?
Achane has been made lightning look slow!
The Phins offense is putting up historic numbers ranking number one in yardage, points, passing, and rushing! But how much impact will the loss of rookie sensation De’Von Achane, who has been placed on I.R. from a knee injury suffered in the Giants victory, slow down this epic production?
Clearly, the loss of Achane will be a blow to the Dolphins’ running game. However, the Dolphins have proved they are not a one-man team with Mostert, Ahmed, and Jeff Wilson, possibly returning to action, all contributing in the past. The return of Connor Williams was a major boost to the run game as well. He is clearly a big key to this run game. So, with Connor back, Mostert and Co. should still be effective… …But how effective?
This week against a poor Panthers team shouldn’t be much of a problem, but the Eagles game is where we might miss Achane a ton. We’ll see.
Dolphins must beat the Panthers… and tune-up for the Eagles
The biggest thing for Miami this week on offense must be focusing on protecting the football. The Dolphins have turned the ball over 5 times in their last 2 games, and even when you have a historic offense that can be often hard to overcome. Turnovers were one of the main factors of why Miami lost in Buffalo. Miami can’t be complacent and just keep turning the ball over on offense because eventually, sloppy play will bite them in the behind in a big game or against an inferior team making it a contest when it shouldn’t be one.
Turnovers are a two-sided coin!
The other side of the turnover problem is that the Dolphins defense hasn’t generated any turnovers in the last two games. They are currently -5 in the turnover battle in two games and that’s an ugly trend that must be changed right away because if they are going to beat better teams, they need to win the turnover battle.
Going against a rookie QB in Bryce Young and a Panthers offense that is only scoring 18.2 points per game! The Panthers have a bottom-of-the-league offensive output and this could be exactly what our defense needs to get back in gear to create some turnovers. The Phins need a good day all around before they face the Eagles at home because they are tops in the league in talent and production on both sides of the ball.
Even though our offense has been championship caliber, the defense has clearly underperformed and could be the reason this team doesn’t go as far as we all hope they do this season. Our defense has allowed 27 points per game which is 7th worst in the league, so this also needs to be fixed right away.
Phins are near locks to be 5-1!
The best sportsbook providers opened the line this week at -14 for the home Dolphins, and the line is currently sitting at -13.5. I truly can’t remember the last time the Dolphins were double-digit favorites in back-to-back games, let alone twice in one season. Elite teams smash teams like this and pile up victories against the bottom dwellers in the league! Hopefully, this Dolphins team does just that and we end up 5-1 and 3-0 at home especially with Zach Thomas being honored at halftime! Come on Phins make this the perfect day!
