Carroo May Miss Ravens Game… The Final Straw?!

...Carroo is injured again and will likely miss the Ravens game.

For the few holding out hope that Carroo might turn it around this season…

…Carroo is injured again and will likely miss the Ravens game.

The odds were low that Leonte Carroo would make the Dolphins 2018 roster. Those odds just became lower. Adam Gase said today that injuries are limiting Carroo in practice. What’s worse, he might end up missing Saturday’s Ravens game.

This missed opportunity is a big blow to his chances of making the team. It might be big enough to deep-six his Dolphins career… along with the 3rd, 4th, and 6th Rounds picks used to trade up and get him. You could say, his career is already over it was just a matter of cementing it with his cut.

That would be fair to say. Yet, if he played this week, maybe some magic would happen, and he could change his destiny.

Such isn’t the case. And even if he plays in Week 4, it’s likely just to find a spot on another squad.

Let’s hope it’s not with the Pats.

Carroo was a desperate, costly move that will  likely end with him cut

Is Carroo getting cut the end of the world for the Dolphins? No.

I grade drafts not on a pick by pick basis. Screw up a 1st Round Pick, but grab a star late… I’m totally fine with that.

Fail on both ends, and that’s a disaster with any pay per head reviews site.

And if I’m trying to grade a regime, the body of work, over the course of all their drafts, is what I base my estimations on.

For example, in this case:

Jakeem Grant was picked in the 6th Round after Carroo. And then the following year, Miami drafted Isaiah Ford in the 7th Round. If both these players pan out, then it washes out a Carroo cut.

There is a lesson learned from this situation though. And I believe it was. As Chris Grier said this year, Mike Tannenbaum loves to trade… but patience is the most consistent key to success. They handcuffed Tannenbaum this draft… and he could not answer or use the phone.

Grant and Ford succeeding can take the sting off a Carroo flop

The only real kick in the butt of all of this would be if Ford and Grant don’t make an impact, and Carroo finds success somewhere else. Is this ugly outcome possible? Yup. In recent Dolphins history, horror show endings are par for the course. But this time I don’t think this will be the case.

Maybe Carroo goes somewhere and ends up productive. I could see that. But Grant’s speed and Ford’s size inside and both their work ethic will probably have them end up contributing. Time will tell the tale. I think it’s safe to say Carroo’s journey with the Dolphins is all but over.

Still, I prefer to be on the safe side. I will do my lucky ‘fingers crossed two-step’ that both Grant and Ford succeed this week. Their success sure will make it a lot easier to digest Carroo getting cut. Go Phins!!!
