Chris McCain might be asked for his playbook if he doesn’t shine in camp.
Chris McCain was an undrafted Rookie in 2014 and showed some flashes in his first season, most memorably against the Patriots. Most football gambling fans were expecting him to make the next step in his second year. But instead of improving, McCain regressed, was inactive for half the season, ended up moving to Defensive End where he had little or no impact, and then had a serious knee injury.
McCain is entering his third season and officially converted to Defensive End. With a new coaching staff in town, McCain may even run the risk of not making the 53 man roster. McCain has great measurables at 6’5”, 245 pounds and he is very fast. However, the game still has not slowed down for him, and McCain may be nothing more than a mirage of potential…and that’s a place where the “Turk” lurks.
Chris McCain will have a bulls-eye on him with a new regime in town.
Last year, Miami had two undrafted Rookie Linebackers make the 53 man roster, Zach Vigil and Neville Hewitt. Both players received more playing time and were more productive then McCain. My money would be on these two youngsters making the 53 over McCain. For me, these two players are in the same position as McCain was in last year, meaning that they are entering their second season. With another off-season under their belt, they should be able to improve and make the team. However, the key question is whether or not they will suffer a sophomore slump like McCain did? And whether, for McCain, it was a sophomore slump for him in 2015 or simply the reality of his ability at the NFL level.
The NFL is a “now” league. Since McCain failed to show anything last season, I truly think he will not make the team this upcoming season, unless he shows a tremendous amount of improvement. What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about if McCain can make the team, and if he does, can he actually make an impact this season?
