Crucial Phins Win Surrounded By Big Drama
A sloppy win v.s. the Jets is surrounded by the big drama of Reshad Jones.
It was about as sloppy a game as the Jets could have played. The Miami Dolphins took advantage of poor snaps and interceptions and managed to come away with the win.
Miami played a clean game for a change with 5 penalties and no turnovers. The Phins players did their part, but the outcome of this game was more about the Jets failures than the Dolphins successes.
And then there was the mystery surrounding Reshad Jones. Adam Gase seemed as clueless about it the fans. Gase’s response in itself is a mystery. How did he have no knowledge of the situation? He is the Head Coach. No?
Gase said this, “I’ve got to look at that and find out what everything entails. It sounds like he pulled himself out,” he said, per Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com. “So I’ve just got to find out kind of what happened there.”
I’m a fan of Omar Kelly, but his response here is way off… and yet on point in one regard.
First, Jones isn’t a bad guy for the missed meetings.
This is a Red Herring by Kelly. But, if Jones took his helmet off in the middle of a game–a crucial one at that– then he can’t be trusted. If this ends up the case, he is a ‘bad guy’. But he is nothin’ but a symptom of the larger disease.
This regime is inches away from getting the ax, and they needed this win to have a shot at sticking for 2019. While many fans are hoping Gase & Co. get the boot, how many people will lose their jobs? This will affect dozens of families with an uncertainty of income and being forced to move. Jones has been paid to help this team win… and that pay is guaranteed. Guaranteed money often exposes the true character of a player. Whatever the reason, if he ‘benched himself’ it was an act of complete selfishness and that IS a ‘bad guy’.
I don’t ever want Jones to wear aqua again. You can bet with any pay per head bookie software site like AcePerHead.com that this really sucked to say.
Now, where Kelly is correct is the Dolphins did put up with his tardiness and freelancing for a long time. They even rewarded him with a large extensions as he crept past 30 years of age. Phins brass should have corrected it or not paid him. This act of self-entitlement has been foster by the Dolphins and now they are getting their due. Lack of discipline can’t be tolerated in football. This doesn’t excuse Jones from his jackass behavior, but he is a sign of what this franchise has become: a dysfunctional joke.
That hurt to say even more than not wanting Jones to play for us again… but it’s the truth. Is it ever the truth.
Back to the game:
Miami has and still is struggling to score points. The Jets have a good defense, but with their offenses absurd level of sloppy play, Miami should have put more point up than 13. This doesn’t bode well for the rest of the 2018 Season.
It will take a whole lot more than 13 points to beat the Packers on the road.
There are some saying with Jones out the defense played better. I say the real reason is Jets offense is more inept than the Dolphins and the runners can’t take advantage of the cutback. I do think more snaps by Fitzpatrick is a good thing. But the absence of Jones won’t make a ‘world of difference’.
I hope I’m wrong about all of this… We have a less than a week to find out. Go Phins!!!

One review of the box scores shows that the Jets offense outperformed the Dolphin’s offense. In fact, if Darnald had protected the ball better and their kicker had hit the field goal that he missed, the Dolphins could have been defeated by a score of 9 to 6.
The offense did little to capitalize on those 4 picks. This game illustrated the casm between the Patriot’s and the remainder of the AFC Least.
Please sell the team, Mr. Ross. Your picks for management are killing us. Go public with the Dolphin stock.
Agree! Gase’s response to Jones sitting is sad. Don’t rush to judgment… he was unhappy… really?! Are we talking about children or millionaires paid to play? Sad… I’m officially done with Gase and Co…
Gase’ s ego is destroying our team! He’s (gase) is NOT a team player…..
Cindy, I agree. I like Gase, but his ego and stubbornness, which was once an asset in 2016, is now a detriment and will likely lead him and this regime to get flushed.
