Day 2 of the Dolphins training camp went off without a hitch.
Day 2 of training camp was another day of preparation for the contact that is coming.
The Miami Dolphins have finished day 2 of training camp without any major glitches.
Since they are still not in full equipment, the answer is still foggy about the answer to the most important question: how much they have improved in the trenches.
The Dolphins made it a priority to improve both the offensive and defensive lines, and until they get thumping in full equipment and preseason games, the verdict is still out.
Dallas played right guard. Tunsil started at left guard. Albert played without a brace at the request of the coaching staff. Bushrod was promoted to 1st string. Dolphins defensive interior made “alot of plays”. But, without contact, it’s all just “guesstimations”.
Like I said yesterday, in regard to Tunsil, this is going to be something that we are going to continuously monitor. Today was a nice sign that he received time at 1st string Guard. As long he continues getting work with the first team at Guard, and hopefully an increased amount each practice, then there should be no concerns that he will not be able to earn one of the starting Guard positions.
Today, as yesterday, the Offense was working on a lot of short passes, and the Landry and Tannehill connection is alive and well. Even though there’s a lot of talented players in the Wide Receiving unit, and Gase will spread the ball around, it’s apparent Landry is still going to be Tannehill’s go to guy and security blanket when all else fails. Also, Parker shinned a bit and Grant struggled with drops and double clutches.
Day 2 is one day closer to contact and a chance to see what is really going on.
The Qb’s produced decent play with Moore at the tail end. With phantom pressure and soft blocking, the level of play by the QB’s can only be viewed on a little higher level than drills performance.
The same can be said of the running backs due to the limit in contact. Kenyan Drake moved up from the fourth team unit all the way to the first team unit. Drake had a fumble today, but it actually appeared to be more the fault of the QB. Drake really needs to make the most of this training camp, especially with Foster on the PUP list at the moment, and Ajayi penciled in as the starter. Oddly, Daniels had the nicest move of the day with a good cut inside, however, best pay per head fans in Miami are very familiar with Thomas, and if he beats out Drake, that wouldn’t be a glowing endorsement for Drake.
Defensively, the two Ex-Eagles, Alonso and Maxwell have looked very sharp. If they can both stay healthy, then each of them may have a strong chance to get back to pre-Eagle playing days, where they were both respectively more productive. If these players do pan out, then that trade will truly be a feather in Mike Tannenbaum‘s cap.
Other note: Jenkins tracked down Drake to the outside for a minimal gain – he seems to be in shape, Phillips got inside for a would be loss, but didn’t finish, Reshad was a force, Misi had a nice deflection, Wake had a sack and McCain made several plays and had a couple of watchers posting “Don’t discount McCain”.
And lastly, Dion Jordan was in the facility today. Still no word on when he will begin practice.
