Defense Must Make a Statement V.S. Browns

Defense must show up this week to stop the run v.s Browns.

Defense must dominate a lowly Browns team playing with it’s 3rd string.

The Miami Dolphins will be hosting their first home game of the season this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns at 1pm.  Like the Dolphins, the Browns are also 0-2, and they have lost both of their games to teams that are now both 2-0.  However, the Browns will be entering this upcoming game with their third string QB Cody Kessler as the starting QB.

The Dolphins have actually injured both starting QB’s that they have faced this season.  Russell Wilson was able to pull out a gutsy performance with a twisted ankle, but Garoppolo was unable to continue after he suffered a shoulder injury at the hands of the Dolphins pass rush.  Could Cody Kessler be the next casualty on the Dolphins hit list?

Miami lost both of  these games, so maybe it would be better luck if he doesn’t go down?!

The Browns are not a very good football team. And considering that the Dolphins will be facing a 3rd string Rookie QB, Miami should presumably be able to finally get a win — presumably.

Cleveland scored 20 points in the first quarter of their game against Baltimore last week; however, that was before McCown left the game with an injury.  After McCown left the game, the Browns failed to score another point and their 18 point lead quickly evaporated and turned into a 5 point loss.  To add insult to injury, the Browns first round pick WR Corey Coleman who had 2 first quarter receiving touchdowns also was injured in the game, and will also not be playing this week in Miami.

This is the NFL: the Browns have zero intentions of just laying down to die on the field. But if Miami’s Defense can stop run, get some 3rd and longs, and then put consistent pressure on Kessler…it could be a very long day for the Cleveland Offense.

The Dolphins are going against a depleted Browns offense, and this is a good way for their Defense to make a statement and gain some much needed confidence. The Defense played well in the Seattle game, and also played well in the 2nd half against the Patriots, so there should be no question that Miami’s Defense should be poised to dominant the Browns offense this week.

But, they need to actualize the potential: Miami must move from ‘can to do’ to ‘done it’ for 60 min.

The best pay per head sites in the world have the Dolphins as a -9.5 point favorite, which is something that Dolphin fans have not seen in many years.  If the Dolphins are going to win this game and cover this spread, then I believe it will be because the Defense is going to have a great performance, which should then lead to turnovers.  Winning the turnover battle and field position battle is the tried and true recipe to winning. Dolphins must begin to prove to the league, their fans and most importantly to themselves that they play winning football. What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans expectations for this upcoming game?
